More Reviews of good food at Eng Seng Restaurant

Ordered in @engsengfirstgradeseafood for a little dinner treat and I must say, their crabs were delicious and their other dishes were pretty decent!

Eng Seng is known for their black pepper crabs, and I must say they don't disappoint. At $82 per medium crab, they were pretty meaty and definitely very fresh. Love how the meat in the legs comes off easily as a whole! The sauce was glorious, with a sweet savoury profile and deep rich black pepper flavour. The sauce has quite a heat packed in it! Had their chilli crab as well and it was very eggy and shiok 😍

Other dishes that were great include their Prawn Paste Chicken ($10 for 6) which may have gone soggy due to the packaging, but the rich prawn paste flavour made it addictive! Their Fried Rice ($9 for medium portion) was really good too, with a good amount of wok hei! You can feel the individual grains too 😁

Definitely a restaurant I will go back to for their crab 😍

Not a usual version, this one has wok hei and is quite eggy, with strong tomato notes that's not overpowering. Also has squid and prawns

Quite a decent rendition, there's good reason why ppl order this when they're here already.

They use mud crabs from india/sri lanka, and they were of exceptional quality. It's tender without being mushy

The black pepper sauce was strong, sweet and heavy on black pepper, yet it works with the sweet crab meat. It's quite unbelievable, it's difficult to imagine how they did it because it sounds so eclectic. Imagine a sweet black pepper sauce! The underlying secret ingredient that ties it all tgt is coffee

Service is not good tho, it's really u acceptabke to me that we are paying hundred bucks and they wont even charge our phone, saying electricity is expensive(I even offered to pay!)

Only cash and paynow accepted here. The Food is alright, particularly the quality of the crab, the sauce is different but not exceptional. Personally if im going to pay so much id rather choose somewhere with better service, more comfort, and less ulu

It's a version w sauce, the Veg could have been crunchier, so it's slightly above average

Yummy wanton noodles at Eng Seng Restaurant. Fried wantons are huge and packed with big and succulent prawns and noodles are al dente.

Unlike other versions where you’d usually end up fighting over the little portion of dried up sauce, this one is thick and gravy-like. It starts off initially with a distinct slight sweetness like a deep rich caramel, before the earthy peppery notes start humming in the background for attention, with just enough prominence. It was about $78 for a medium-sized crab, which was already quite meaty. Also, you should call ahead to reserve your crabs, just to be safe. Top stuff. @engsengfirstgradeseafood

Delicious black pepper crabs, good food, reasonable prices. They also have the mee goreng that you must try also.

Operating on limited supply, this kway chap stall usually runs out of the local favourite pig parts by the afternoon. This portion fits around 9-10 people on the table, each with a bowl of kway.

I find the innards well cleaned and the braised sauce simple yet just enough flavor that brings forth a comforting feeling within us.

While I'm not a full fledged fan of kway chap, issue being whether the innards are cleaned properly, I do enjoy trying out the various parts of the pig when it's done properly.

Loved how meaty the crabs were. The eggs in the chilli sauce was so goooood💓 But maybe too much starch was added, the sauce turned a bit too sticky and lumpy after a while. Overall it was not bad!

Really the best way to enjoy life over huge meaty crabs and black peppers. The sauce was so good that we literally dipped our sides in it to relish every drop of it:)

Nuggets of minced pork balls heavily seasoned with soy sauce and white pepper with every scoop of viscous Porridge flavoured with a dash of sesame oil. The perfect breakfast on a rainy day. Do note that the elderly couple running this stall only opens from morning till lunchtime!

And the only place that I like (wrt black pepper anything). That dark sweet and spicy sauce is mindblowingly good - black gold coating to the big meaty crabs which are also packed with orange roe most of the time. They open around 4 or 5pm, but sell out by latest 7:30pm and promptly close shop by 8pm or earlier if the last customers get pressured to quickly finish their meal. DON'T expect good service here, the aunties and uncles are very curt, though we chanced a rare moment recently when they seemed to be in a better mood - they smiled!
Order the traditional loaf bread to dip into the sauce, it'll be a waste not to wipe the plate clean. Also popular here is the mee goreng, other than that the other dishes are pretty substandard.

Not overly spicy with some sweetness makes this black pepper crab delicious, best savored on a weekday night.

There are some restaurants we reserve for celebrations, special events, or when we feel like giving ourselves a treat. Eng Seng Restaurant is one of them.

They open at 5pm, and are sold out by 7pm. The service is rude and lacks patience, and the environment is hot and humid. The place is loud with big groups chatting, and cars zooming outside. To make things worse, they don't have a menu, and you can only ask for the daily special. Despite all this, we have never been disappointed by their food — especially the black pepper crab. People might have an angry face 😡 while they are queuing, but I have never once seen anyone leave with one. This proves just how good their food is!

Most of the time, we visit this place with our family or friends. But on one occasion, it was really special. My dad had a sudden craving for their black pepper crab, but there was only the two of us! Of course, I immediately agreed to this idea, and both of us flew down as fast as we could. Imagine two men chilling over beer, and the very addictive black pepper crabs.

This must be my most memorable dinner ever. #hawkerpedia

My pick for the best pepper crab in Singapore! Sweet yet peppery to the point of making you sniffle. Might be controversial so do share with me your favourite black pepper crab 😊 Full review at http://youtu.be/WyDjwKOaK_8

no sound after recording. Anyway this is a stall I've always wanted to visit and found out that they have been around for more than 30 years already. Taste wise is a little bland for me maybe because they added noodles for me seeing my size. Noodles were supple and they used 熟油 to season it. Wantons needed more sesame oil for flavour. The char siew look dry but actually quite nice and tender. Crispy dumpling was nice, so their dumpling soup should be good. Total damage $4.50.

'legendary'.. I had my qualms about this stall having to hear so many raving reviews as I have been growing up but never got to try it. Finally I tried it and it indeed lives up to its name.. for those who have tried it, I'm sure you know what I mean.. for those who hadn't.... 3 words.. Go try it😑
