A very lemak , 36 hour sous-vide US beef short plate and brisket with rendang-esque housemade coconut stew brimming with spices. Melt-in-your-mouth would be the most appropriate superlative. It’s topped with jiggly onsen egg and served with plenty of toasted sourdough to scoop up the saucy goodness with.

I appreciate the unique takes on brunch at @evanskitch, the chef has really put his personal stamp on the dishes here.

Slabs of glisteningly fatty char siew sauce-glazed pork belly slices are layered over a bed of perfectly scrambled egg. The meat is cooked for 36 hours until meltingly soft, then aburi-ed for a smoky finish.

Chicken floss, as well as scallion, furikake and chilli strands add a decidedly Japanese fluorish, but what truly takes it leftfield is the passionfruit sauce and pickled papaya buried innocuously under all the under ingredients, lending a tropical sweetness to each bite. Does it all work together? Not quite, as the almost multitudinous mix and match of components can confuse the palate at times. It’s a good dish overall, but a little editing could have gone a long way.

Very delicious brunch cafe with fusion dishes. Flavours are very balanced. Smoked salmon, mentaiko with pork floss is a great combination. The curry beef stew is also very fragrant, meat is tender, and goes well with the sourdough bread.
Nice presentation. Everything is paired well in this dish. Chef really does put his heart in the food he served. Very well executed plate of smoked salmon on a sourdough toast. Recommended to try this if you're here!
Decided to try this for lunch. Was surprised that the food is actually pretty much comparable to hotel standards. The portion was huge and very filling. The chicken was crispy and it goes very well together with the cabbage slaw and scrambled eggs. I would definitely come back again to try the other items on the menu!
Enjoyed the Umami Mentaiko Smoked Salmon toast which was served on thinly sliced sourdough toast. Thought it had a good well balanced flavour that was sweet, savory and refreshingly tangy from the mix of housemade mentaiko and Tobiko, pickled cucumber and creamy sous vide Nuyolk eggs.
Thank you @burpple for the kind invite and @evanskitch for having us!
Served on thinly sliced sourdough toast, flavours of the Bbq pulled pork was great too with silky scrambled egg and cabbage slaw.
Another dish that I enjoyed was the North Malaysia Slow Cooked Coconut Beef Brisket Stew - essentially, a rich and aromatic beef rendang with pretty tender beef chunks; which was served with my favourite pappadum and toast (rice option is also available!). This is supposed to be for sharing but I think I could’ve easily finished it on my own.
Thank you Burpple for the kind invite and Evan’s Kitch for having us!
Evan’s Kitch is a small cafe tucked within a corner of City Gate, a tad obscure but the food we had were good, and menu is extensive enough for one to keep going back.
The mains were fantastic! The flavourful pork stew with al dente spaghetti was one of my favourite, tho I did find the nicely charred pork belly to be too fatty and would prefer a better meat/ fat ratio. Served also with sous vide egg which you can mix in for a creamier texture. Will be back for this!
Thank you @burpple for the kind invite and @evanskitch for having us!
The salmon toast was great, however the steak with fries was well done (called for medium) and over seasoned with salt.
Had the Chilli Soft Shell Crab Spaghetti and Salmon Mentaiko Bowl with 2 Mojitos. Total was $55 nett including the drinks with burpple beyond. Overall extremely satisfied with the food, I can't recommend this place enough and feel a little sad with the lack of crowds at the place which imo is cos of the location, but the food is just wow. The chef really knows what he's doing and the ingredients he uses are just so premium and top notch. Presentation wise its rly like at an atas restaurant and for the price point i think its really worth as the portion is quite generous. Pasta was not jelak at all, salmon was really fresh with very nice coating of mentaiko. Will be back for sure! One thing to note is that each pair of 2 can only order 1 steak between them and cannot order any of the truffle items with the burpple promotion.
Pandan Coconut Brulee Cheesecake is a fusion of pandan cheesecake and creme brulee and I liked the balance of flavours plus how it wasn't too sweet as well
The truffle fries had a strong truffle fragrance with a generous serving of parmesan, served with an egg which went well with the truffle fries too.
The Asian Chilli Chicken Karaage was very crispy and I liked how the sweet chilli jam added a more unique touch to it.
The Coconut Beef Stew had tender chunks of meat and the gravy was flavourful. It went well with sourdough and they have a rice version of this dish.
The Asian BBQ Pulled Pork Toast had a nice smoky flavour and was complemented by creamy coleslaw and scrambled eggs.
I enjoyed the Umami Mentaiko Smoked Salmon Toast because it had a combination of ingredients and flavours I like. Plus the ikura adds bursts of flavour too.
The Spaghetti in Pork Stew Stock stood out with unique flavours and the tender meat, served with al dente spaghetti.
Cream soup is creamy & flavorful; with few pieces of mushroom in the middle, truffle oil, cream cheese & garlic croutons; garlic croutons is crispy yet not dry; would prefer more mushroom chunks in the soup for a richer mushroom taste..
Mashed banana with banana compote coated with thin layer of batter & deep-fried to golden brown; with coconut ice cream, banana jam & fruit medley at the side; jam is not too sweet with strong cinnamon taste, coconut ice cream is creamy & rich; unique dish, best for sharing..
