If you would like some quality Japanese fare, this is one place to go. Although it may be located in a very unknown area, this place has a poolside view for you to enjoy with your food!

I had a Chirashi Don ($19.80) while my friends had the Truffle Wagyu Don with Foie Gras ($35.80) and we got the premium sides (for additional $8) that has miso soup, chaiwanmushi, salmon sashimi and mochi.

The Chirashi Don itself boast quite a few ingredients from scallops to chutoro. Every piece of sashimi is really fresh and they were perfect with the freshly grated wasabi and soy sauce. To me I feel like the quality of the rice really makes or breaks a don, and I'm glad to say that the rice in this don is really something. It's not only fluffy, it's very well flavoured with the right amount of mirin. Absolutely beautiful.

I tried abit of the truffle wagyu don and I loved how crispy and smoky the beef slices were! The beef slices were tender as well and the truffle taste is noticeable. The foie gras pieces were very rich and fatty, perfect with the bed of rice below.

Definitely a good place to come for date nights 😍

Lovely hidden restaurant with amazingly well priced dishes. The salmon don was so tasty and had great cuts of fish!! The set it came in also included soup and karaage chicken which was also very good.

Shop name:

Impressions:
Did not expect much but who knew decadent wagyu would go so well with the sweet-savoury flavours and crunchy textures of Yu Sheng. On top of your familiar Yu Sheng ingredients, there's ikura too. Paired with teriyaki sauce. This was from their CNY 2021 special menu.

Rating:
8 / 10

Verdict:
✅ Will eat again ✅
I guess it's okay
Meh
Not going back

Notes:
The restaurant is located on a 4th of a private residence and they share a space with a cafe with limited seats. The pool view is nice. Reservation is recommended.

River Valley Road, around the corner from Killiney Road

This was a very confusing experience. The first time they served us our truffle fries, they came really cold. It wasn’t even warm, just straight out cold, and oily + soggy (feels like it’s been left out in the kitchen for a long time before they brought it to us)

So we requested for a change which they kindly agreed to and thankfully the refried truffle fries were a lot nicer. This time round it was piping hot so the fries weren’t oily and soggy. Good amount of truffle oil!

Not gonna lie, this looked way more appetizing in the photos shown 🤣 but the addition of spicy mayo indeed made the whole bowl more yums :) was deciding between the regular salmon don and this spicy option, am glad I went for this!

They were quite generous with the salmon sashimi strips and ingredients are pretty fresh.

Located in River Valley Road which is 15-20 mins walk from Somerset MRT, Genzo has a rly nice ambience. It’s situated by a poolside and the space is pretty spacious. Having that said, it took us some time to navigate ourselves as it’s quite a distance away from the nearest MRT station.

This came with mixed sashimi cubes with bits of tamago cubes, cucumber for a refreshing crunch, some tobiko and shoyu sauce for topping.

Taste wise, this was quite alright. We thought it was quite decent but we all agreed that we had better chirashi bowls. The good thing about this is that it’s quite value for money! Ingredients are fresh as well :)
