Apart from their classic Buttermilk waffle ($4), you’ll get to choose from 4 other flavours here at Shots & Scoops - Matcha, Charcoal, Red Velvet and Chocolate ($4.50). The specific flavours of the waffle themselves weren’t strong, although you do get whiffs of it between mouths. Our fault that we left ours aside a little too long, so it wasn’t as crispy and fluffy as we would have liked (will definitely be back to try it again). Their handcrafted scoops here were rather impressive, all made of natural ingredients. They are also in the midst of R&D, so you can expect new flavours on rotation! An affordable price tag for a sweet treat compared to others.
The waffle batter here’s sweeter but had quite a good amount of crisp and fluffiness, along with a light fragrance. A decent dessert option! Also, it seems like the Thai Milk Tea and Coconut Taro are the most popular ice cream flavours.
Instead of toppings on the waffles, Nassim mixes in bits of bacon and cheddar cheese into their waffle batter before it goes on to the griddle! We enjoyed the crispy chewy texture and the savouriness you get in between bites. The side bacon strips were done well, sweet and savoury - definitely no complaints about too much bacon here! It might get a bit jelak if you’re planning to finish this yourself, but the chive sour cream did help with that. If not, get another dish and share it with a friend! Prices are quite steep here though.
One of the few desserts we had during our brunch at Wildseed Cafe, was this eye catching pandan flavoured waffle topped with Butterfly Pea Flower Coconut soft serve, garnished with grated coconut, granola and kaya. Although the waffles were way crispier than the usual sort (not really a fan), the light blue soft serve was surprisingly refreshing and not too sweet! Apart from this combination, you can choose from two other flavours - Nutella, almond flakes and chocolate pops or honey ham, mixed cheese and maple syrup. The waffles are available daily from 10am to 6pm.
A huge thank you to @thesummerhousesg for feeding us and @burpple for the kind invite! 🙆🏻
Always found the waffle range (both sweet and savoury) from Montana a very fail proof choice. This here is not the usual chicken with waffles you'd expect! With the chive waffle is a five spice chicken confit, served with smoked ginger plum sauce and a side of smoked ginger plum coleslaw.
I'm not a fan of ginger in my food so the tangy sauce was kinda overpowering for me. I felt that the chicken on its own was flavourful enough although ours was slightly dry (but I'm guessing it's one time off). We were also quite amused with the coleslaw that reminded us so much of bonito flakes! Waffles on the other hand were as usual, crisp and done well!
Nit & Grit serves up a huge range of fresh homemade waffles and drinks for takeaway, which reminded me so much of my secondary school days. This shop that's tucked in the middle of Hougang Green Shopping Mall is the brainchild of two kind, driven and passionate young ladies (they recently went for Hair for Hope)!
We were most impressed by the waffle batter that's made from scratch - once off the griddle, it's delightfully crispy all around with a nice chewy bite inside. Enjoyed how the sausages and crabsticks were encased within the waffle to give a play of textures. Take note not to leave it out for too long as it will dry up!
Buttermilk waffle amongst coconut popcorn topped with a generous ball of thai milk tea ice cream, ending off with a condensed milk drizzle. This sounds like a cannot-fail-combi but unfortunately, our waffle was burnt which thus overpowered the lighter tasting ice cream. I prefer Creamier's much stronger flavored and fragrant version of the thai milk tea but I would love to come back to try the Churros Apple waffle!
Nope, that's not your charcoal waffles! The Black Velvet Waffle is a black sesame waffle with your choice of green tea or black sesame ice cream and drizzled with black miso caramel. You will also get to choose between fluffy or crispy textured waffles. I am honestly not a fan of both black sesame and green tea flavors in desserts (I know, I know) but this combination was a genius idea. The whole dish arrived with a strong aroma of roasted black sesame. Sweetness from the green tea ice cream and waffle was such a delight with the slightly savory miso sauce - a well handled balance.
Princess of all waffles is the Red Velvet Waffle - just look at it! Sandwiched in between the waffles are 2 scoops of strawberry shortcake ice cream, with white chocolate rose syrup drizzled over the stack. Waffles were light and fluffy with a thin crispy crust. It's one of the better versions around for me. The combination is great to wrap up your meal, satisfying yet not overly sweet. Good to share!
This Assam Crab Waffle is the creation of inspirations from the Kedah Laksa, a dish which is very similar to what we are more familiar with, the Assam Laksa. A specialty blend of 8 spices are used and the waffles are topped with crab meat and pineapple cucumber salsa. On the side you'll find the assam gula melaka mayo. This dish didn't sound too appetizing to me at the start but I was pleasantly surprised how everything went so well together! The mayo especially was a burst of sweet, sour and savory flavors. It was so tangy and addictive, I found myself scraping all the sauce off the plate with the waffle! This is one dish I'll come back for.
One of my top places to go to for waffles! My mum has a sweet tooth for waffles with ice cream recently and how could I not bring her here? Tastes as good as I remembered it to be. Crispy yet fluffy waffles, smooth ice cream and generous amount of sauce. Price is affordable too at $8.90! Surprised to see more ice cream flavors available but stick with this amazing combi here and you won't go wrong.
First mouth of the Pandan ice cream with the waffle made my eyes lit up! :) The crispy waffle with a just-right-chewy texture went really well with the ice cream and gula melaka sauce. Yum and I'll be back!
