Back to Mr and Mrs Mohgan's for their crispy prata. Although missing Mr Mohgan now, their prata is still as crispy as before. Everything else feels the same. Pratas are crispy on the outside, stretchy and fluffy on the inside. I always go for the fish curry but I noticed they don't serve homemade sambal anymore.

Plain Prata 》$1.50
Plaster Prata 》$2

Mr & Mrs Mohgan Super Crispy Roti Prata!

One of the crispiest prata in Singapore! Have eaten this countless times, and still not sick of it! My favourite prata brunch to have along the Joo Chiat Road stretch!

We visited on a late Saturday morning (around 9.45am), and it took almost 45 minutes for the food to be served!

I super love how they can make the prata so crispy! Even the Egg prata! Usually egg prata elsewhere are all soggy and soft, but this was sooo crispy! Ask for fish curry here (if you do not like lamb curry like me)!

Tip: Head straight to order the prata when you arrive! Find seats ONLY after you have ordered your prata!

I first tried Mr and Mrs Mohgan many moons ago when they started out at an old school coffee shop along Crane Road and immediately fell in love with their bready yet crispy roti prata (kosong please!). The wait started at 20 minutes but became longer and longer and I eventually gave up patronising them as the wait and distance from home were way too long.

I read about how there were well disagreements (to put it lightly) between the couple who owned the stall and their business partner, and also their assistants. They also moved a couple of times (I think). Mr Mohgan himself also passed away recently, leaving Mrs Mohgan (who usually takes orders) and their 2 assistants to helm the stall now located in a kopitiam next to Dunman Food Centre.

The standard of the roti prata has naturally suffered a little following Mr Moghan's demise. It is a less crispy than I remembered and also less chewy texture-wise. The curry seems pretty similar to how I remembered it. But all this is forgotten once you mix their prata with the curry and some of their kickass sambal.

Their homemade sambal is sweet, savoury and mildly spicy with bits of ikan bilis in there and is probably the key reason why I will definitely be back.

Mr and Mrs Mohgan’s prata was probably one of the best and if not the best in town a couple of years ago. Yes, it may not be as good as before but that sambal and curry is still worth a trip!

Finally made a trip down to try out the pratas after hearing all the good reviews for this place! After seeing Mr Mohgan’s passing in the news, and Mrs Mohgan continuing on with running the stall, we thought we’d come down to show some support for the business too. Thankfully their Google Maps location is finally updated (was wrongly directed to the stall helmed by the kitchen assistant the other time). Mrs Mohgan is a very friendly lady and the order taking was quite smooth 👍🏼

What’s on the table:
• Coin prata (6 pcs)
• Kosong x3
• Egg x3
• Plaster

Total price paid: ~$20+ (inclusive of our takeaway orders of cheese egg prata, kosong x2, egg and mutton curry)

The coin prata is just like kosong, but mini form! They were super crispy and paired with the thick flavourful curry, it was just chef’s kiss 😚👌🏼 Egg prata isn’t as crispy but it is soft and pillowy! Plaster prata is just as good – crispy kosong prata with fried egg, and the yolk is runny 💯 We came at around 11am+, not much queue and we got our order within 15 mins!

Will definitely re-visit this place again 😊

Mr & Mrs Moghan are prata aristocracy, and I simply had to try them given that they were now within range of my sweatshop. I’ve heard years worth of praise for their prata, so I had to get the trifecta of hits: plain, plaster, and cheese & onion.⠀

Not gonna lie, it’s just above average. Sure, they’re competently crispy, but it is positively dripping in grease. In fact, there was so much oil that the USA invaded my plate to spread democracy (thanks, Joe Biden). While they might be on par with Springleaf, the Moghans get utterly blown away by the colossus that is Chindamani.⠀

The plaster was serviceably appetising, with a fried egg cooked into the prata dough. It possesses a delightful dough to crisp ratio, but my arteries were squeezing in protest as the oil trickled from the fried dough. Same goes for the plain prata, but the cheese & onion was a regret. What seems to be a slice of Kraft cheese is plopped atop a smattering of chopped onions, and that’s all she wrote. The cheese didn’t add any sapidity, only an unnecessary creamy richness.⠀

The real standout here is that marvellous mutton curry. It’s poignantly piquant thanks to the mutton that’s been cooked into the curry, and the mellow spiciness aided in tempering the greasiness of the prata. Just a little bit, but every little bit matters here.⠀

While my review might seem a bit harsh on the Moghans, I would like to clarify that it’s a decent prata place. It just isn’t among the top prata palaces in Singapore.
