More Reviews of good food at Nam Kee Chicken Rice Restaurant

People might go Upper Thomson for cafe food, but chicken rice isn't that bad too! 😂 The roasted chicken ($15 for half chicken) and steamed chicken ($15 for half chicken) were tender and flavourful. I especially loved the roasted chicken, as the skin is actually crispy 😍 My friends loved the Mapo Tofu as well and it will make a great side to the chicken rice! Probably a good way to gain back the calories lost during the hike at Macritchie 😂

More flour than chicken. At least the batter was tasty and crsipy..

Tasty but chicken was overcooked and a bit dry. Not sure what draws people to this spot, might be the chilli which was pretty good, but rice and chicken were passable at best

This was yummy, done ma po tofu style but given the name, was expecting way more century egg than what's equivalent to a quarter of an egg...

Living in the area, I have seen way too many restaurants open, only to succumb to the Upper Thomson competition. This old-school establishment has withstood the test of time and fickle tastebuds to deliver solid zichar fare and chicken rice.

Old-school chicken rice restaurant; steamed chicken is the harder type (not those dunked in ice water after cooking to get the collagen, tender effect) but very flavorful, while the other zichar dishes deliver really well. Perfect for families/big groups.

This stall has been here for a long time and I always feel so nostalgic there thanks to its old school setting.

Whole steamed chicken ($26) - no modern twists etc just a good, juicy, tender chicken. Chicken rice was fragrant. The sambal kang kong and fu yong dan were mediocre.

The Chicken Rice restaurant that have stood the test of time; one of my family's go to for the past 21 years of my life despite various seasons (including a shift to the east).
Braving through 1. a temporal aversion and switch to 烧鸡 when a family friend influenced me with her perspective of 白鸡 skin as essentially "oil jelly".
2. Parents getting on age resulting in an order of 1-2 bowls of chicken rice each instead of 2-3 in the past. Yes the chicken rice here is that satisfying and also "clean/relatively less oily" tasting in our opinion to render the once "excessive" order.

While I believe chicken rice has a "to each of his/her own" element; I believe Nam Kee, if not impressive, will not disappoint.
P.S: simple zi char fare is served too, good for a variety when visiting in a group.

Always crowded, why? Obviously great food! Slightly costs more in coffeeshops but still affordable! And their rice are just the best! Everything on their menu is just delicious! Old school type of restuarant but gives the best food!

Nam Kee, an eatery with many years of history & old school ambience, used to be my family's favorite hang-out when I was young. Went back to try after so many years. The chicken is tender, juicy with hints of sesame oil. You can choose to order a minimum of S$3 steamed chicken or S$13 for half a chicken or S$26 for whole chicken. For those who don't like steamed chicken, they have roast chicken, char siew & roast pork. While I like the chicken, the same can't be said for the other dishes. Their rice ain't as fragrant as it used to be and the other dishes that we ordered are mediocre. The prices of the food are reasonable thou', with prices starting at S$6 for a small plate of vegetables. Drawbacks? This place is always crowded so have to go early to get seats. Service ain't really great cos they are always busy so tend to get orders mixed up or forget orders.

In my opinion, one of the best in Singapore.

A lil too sweet for the cashew meat 😅 #namkee #namkeechickenrice #namkeechickenricerestaurant #chickenrice #singaporechickenrice

My go-to, never fail is Nam Kee. The chicken is crystal white, juicy and just seasoned perfectly. As a side, we have the fried tofu that is handmade with bits of pork. #heritagehawkers #heritagefood #heritagesg #sgfood #sgigers #foodiconsofsg. Please someone think of me when they eat here, maybe, just maybe I'll taste some vicariously.
