Fuel up with delicious Punjabi grub at this spot before you hit the bubble tea shops. There’s a great spread of meats and veggies in mouth-watering flavours, from a creamy Mutton Rogan Josh (RM25.90) to the rich Palak Paneer (RM17.90) and tender Tandoori Chicken (RM10.90) – order all these dishes for the table. Grab a basket of freshly made Butter Chapati (RM2.50) to mop up the curries. Also good is Burppler Avocado Queen's personaly favourite, the Chicken Dum Briyani (RM15.90) with fluffy and fragrant rice.

Located in a quieter part of SS15, this relatively new restaurant has fast become a favourite for chapati in our books. Warm, friendly service couples with charming ethnic murals, making it a suitable spot for a casual lunch with your colleagues. Look out for their set meals, with a good handful accessibly priced under RM15! Each set comes with a choice of two chapatis, naan or biryani. Without a doubt, go for the chapatis. These are quality breads, made to order and served fresh from the flat-top stove. The Tandoori Set (RM14.90) is a great choice for the tender tandoor-grilled chicken, redolent of spices. Their dhal is of the runnier sort, but be assured that this onion and lentil-filled gravy lacks little in flavour. Alternatively, pile on more gravy with a Paneer Set (RM13.90) that comes with any paneer dish of your choice. The classic palak paneer (cottage cheese with spinach) is luscious.

When it comes to suppertime nasi lemak in SS15, look to long-established mamak Darussalam to satiate cravings. Come after a long day's work and be sure to sit upstairs — the restaurant's second floor is blessed with nighttime breeze. Our favourite order here is the Nasi Lemak Ayam (RM6.70) that's served really quickly, but more importantly, with standards. Each plate features warm rice topped with a fried egg, flavourful fried chicken and a whopping side of sambal that packs a punch! The mamak has also recently introduced Butter Chicken Rice (RM7.50) to accommodate spillover customers from their next-door neighbour, Gold Chili. Although not as rich, their humble version of the dish is surprisingly satisfying with plenty of gravy to ladle over rice.

This mamak has watched over SS15 students for a long time, supplying a spot for students to makan when pulling all-nighters or simply to watch football matches with strangers. I had the Nasi Lemak Ayam (RM6.70). Love that the rice is served ultra-warm, with a spicy sambal that shakes you up at this time of night. The sides may not look much, but that tasty chicken batter and soft, fried egg will come through for this sinful supper.

At Big Singh Chapati, it's easy to feel like you're dining at a friend's home, thanks to a chef who jives as he makes chapati out front and the friendly servers who strike spontaneous conversations. Come for dinner to experience the full menu, and bring a few friends who'd enjoy eating with their hands — an experience we recommend here! The set menu is king, and offers platters of a main dish, dhal, chutney, dessert of the day and your choice of either two chapatis, naan or biryani to mop it all up with. A foolproof combo would be the Mutton Set (RM14.90). The Kashmiri specialty, mutton rogan josh, offers plenty of lamb-aromatic gravy to go with your carbs. The restaurant also has a list of desi specials such as the Puree & Chole (RM14.90), which serves aloo chole (masala-style cauliflower, chickpeas and potatoes) with three pieces of puree (deep-fried, unleavened bread) — wrap a dollop of aloo chole in a piece of puree for a delicious mouthful!
