4⭐ High tea affair with the ladies after 8 months. There's 1 for 1 Peranakan high tea at Four Season under the HSBC wow promotion. Every diner can order 2 drinks and we ordered a coffee and tea each. We had the speciality Candlenut Signature Tea Blend, Royal Peony, Jasmine Silk Pearls & Osmanthus Sencha. The savoury are tasty but the otah toast is considered spicy for me. The scones are one of the better ones I had and I realised I didn't took photo when typing this post. 😅 As for the sweets, the buah keluak, kaya toast and kueh bingkah are slightly less sweet. It would be better if they serve the sweets together with the savoury instead of serving the savoury first then the sweets.

Desserts come in the form of Kueh Bingkah, hand-grated tapioca cake topped with caramelized coconut and sweeten with gula melaka; the quintessential Kueh Salat with its fragrant pandan and coconut milk custard; Kaya Toast layered with butter and sprinkled with Lam Yeo Coffee Powder; decadent Buah Keluak Tart which marries the earthy notes of the seed with the bittersweetness of Valrhona Chocolate; Chinese-style butter cookies studded with caramelized walnuts and tempeh; and my favourite of the lot, the Lemongrass Cake. Relishing the refreshing lemongrass mousse, I really liked the light-as-a-cloud pandan sponge and hints of rose in the fresh cream.

Lastly from the kitchens of One-Ninety came freshly baked Vanilla and Pandan Scones. The scented bakes were best enjoyed warm, with generous dollops of homemade Pineapple-Gula Melaka jam, Strawberry-Rose Preserve and Devonshire clotted cream.

Things got heated with Chef Lee’s Mum’s Signature Chicken Curry - noting that the spice creeps up slowly and tickles the throat. Served with roti jala, traditional net crepes, the bowl of curry was packing some real lemak goodness with hearty chunks of tender chicken and potato.

Delivering bold flavours, One-Ninety Bar's Peranakan Afternoon Tea ($48 per person) savouries were a hit and were as good as I imagined.
