More Reviews of good food at Oporto

Kinda like Nandos...good food, slightly overpriced considering it's supposed to be fast food.
What's unacceptable is they don't have ice for their drinks.

Had this chicken bowl with salad veggies and rice, drizzled with their prego sauce (mixture of mayo and bbq sauce). The rice was too peppery for my liking, and felt that the cold veggies did not complement the warm chicken pieces. The chicken pieces were not super impressive and the prego sauce was unique. Wouldn’t really have this again.

Dont really taste the Herb and lemon, and i loved that. It's more like a well brined flavourful chicken which is rlly up my alley. For those who arent feeling the more punchy flavours of the original chili(which isnt spicy either tho)

Not spicy at all but nice amount of spice. Very well Grilled, was super tender and succulent. One of the best Grilled chicken I've had, and unbeatable at the price with Burpple beyond. Breast can be a little dry though

When someone at a table brings up Australia, one can often stereotypically imagine sepia-tinted views of the scorched barren panorama, surfers riding the high tides in slow-motion, the kangaroo mafia clad in boxing gloves and palm-sized tarantulas at every corner. In the secluded chambers of my skull where genius meets insanity, I’m just thinking of Coffin Bay oysters, John Dory by the ocean and Margot Robbie.

And then there is Oporto, hailing from Bondi Beach, Sydney as a Portuguese flame grilled chicken chain. In my heart of hearts, I have always been one for franchised poultry restaurants as comfort food for the guilty soul. So when I first discovered the outlet bustling at the epicentre of the village, I had to try it.

The classic African-Portuguese chicken can be characterised by its piquant flavours, commonly achieved by marinating the chicken with piri-piri (Swahilian for ‘pepper’) chilis and other spices. Oporto offers their signature Portuguese Flame Grilled Chicken ($6.90/$11.90/$21.90) with a brush-basting finish of either Chilli or Lemon & Herb Sauce. Maybe my expectations of an off-the-grill chicken drumstick that glistened in its own juices were driven higher by a growing appetite, but the swift anti-climax of a dry, under-seasoned chicken left me surprised to say the least. The kick of the piri-piri chilis was apparent on the surface. However beyond the first discernible layer of flesh on the bone, it was seemingly missing from the equation.

Their famous Bondi Burger ($5.90/$7.90/$9.90) came with a thin and rather dry chicken fillet, with an additional $2 for a supplementary fillet. For an established chain restaurant that prides itself on its chicken and its Bondi Burger, evidence points to the contrary when it comes to succulent and flavourful poultry. For a burger that claims to be legendary in nature, it presents itself as a lack thereof.

We got 2 flame grilled (half) chicken, 1 chicken rappa and 1 oprego burger with burpple beyond. The chicken in the wrap and burger was cooked but lukewarm and when we brought it up to the staff, they said that the sauce and lettuce must have cooled the chicken down (in the 5 mins it took to serve us...). Hence I would recommend u give the wrap n burger a miss. However, the half chicken (we got one of each flavour) was really delicious so I would recommend that u get that instead at Oporto. We also tried their chilli cheese fries but it was too salty so I'd give that a miss the next time I'm there.

Ordered the 1-for-1 whole chicken for a price of $21 in total. The first few bites were tasty, however the taste becomes boring after finishing the first part of the chicken. Don’t think I’ll be returning anytime soon.

4 of us used Burpple Beyond to get 2 whole chickens (one spicy, one lemon herb) for the price of one ($21+)! The spicy chicken was not spicy at all, though both chickens were definitely tender and tasty, very much worth the price.

However, the 1-for-1 could only be used on ala carte mains, so we had to add on drinks and sides separately, which were rather pricey. The chili cheese fries was mediocre and did not taste of chili, despite being utterly soaked in chili oil LOL. The drinks (normal bottles of Ayataka & Coke Zero) were $3.90 each, which were rather pricey imo.

Would come back again for the chicken!

i loved how fluffy and chewy the pita wrap was, encasing succulent chicken chunks. i chose the garlic mayo for my sauce and it complemented the savoury chicken perfectly. coupled with the fresh crunchy lettuce and juicy tomato, this made for a satisfying snack 😋😋😋

Alas, it didn't taste like what I had in Aussie. The chicken was good but unfortunately their Original Chilli sauce pales in comparison to the one in Aussie and it didn't help that the burger wasn't slathered with sauce.

We selected lemon and herb sauce for both - felt that the sauce was akin to sour mayo (read: would opt for another sauce for the sake of my taste buds).

The Portugese Grilled chicken was deliciously juicy. We thought it would be most value-for-money to use Beyond 1-1 to get the whole grilled chicken.

Highlight of the Chicken Taca Bowl was the spicy rice that came with. Vegetables used in the slaw was fresh and crisp. Unfortunately, the chicken taca pieces used for this dish was dry and hard.

Note that you are not allowed to upgrade the main to a meal if using Beyond to purchase.

This shop operates like any usual fast food restaurant but the downside is that you will need to top up for a drink even though you purchased a bundle meal like this 🙃 Which kinda force you in getting one cause you know how thirsty you will feel after eating all the unhealthy/fried food sobs. Nothing really stood out for me... maybe except for the fries with chicken bites. The fats surrounding my chicken patty isn't appetizing at all. And there's nothing special about the burger, that's pretty unBURGERlievable I would say 😅

Chicken patty was very good! Abit tough but flavours was good. But I wouldn’t pay $9.90 for this. Worth with burpple 1 for 1 though.

Chicken was very tender and the portion was quite big! Meat was quite soft and not dry. Waiting time less than 5 minutes.

Ordered this as a set with a side dish (grilled corn) and drink. Was overall pretty underwhelming, unfortunately... the corn was lacking in flavour and the chicken was just average, nothing impressive.

Dish name:Bondi Burger
Price: $5.90
Thoughts: Tastes a lot like the Pasar malam ramly burger instead of like fat boys or McDonald’s kind of burger. For 5.90 I don’t think it’s worth it and ramly burger isn’t my kind of burger so it’s really not my cup of tea.
Verdict: 0/5

Dish: Portuguese combo fries
Price: $8
Thoughts: Fries were really thick with potatoes. The moment you take your first bite, it just disintegrates and sort of melt in your mouth. Which I absolutely dislike in fries. I prefer McDonald’s fries whereby they are thinly cut and crisp. The chicken was acceptable, not too dry. The sauce they used were your average nacho cheese sauce and sweet Chili sauce.
Verdict: 0/5

It was our first time trying Oporto together with my colleagues during our lunch break. The grilled chickens and burgers are super delicious and tender. Could actually smell the bbq aroma when it was ready to serve, the meat with the sauces match well together too. We were so satisfied with the choice that we’ve made, where we actually stood outside and thinking if we should give it a try.
So I would definitely recommend to give this restaurant a try! Worth it especially 1 for 1. ;)

The food at @oportosg does fit into the healthier lifestyle that I’m trying to get into. The grilled chicken here is succulent and tender and falls off the bones easily. Apart from the chips, we also had corn and coleslaw, healthier options indeed!

Thanks #burpplebyeond for the 1-for-1 deals! We ordered two large chicken from @oportosg to share. Upgraded one to a full Meal with drink and fries. Total damage: $26.50 😎

It is not my first time trying oporto and I love how tender the chicken is (with the exception of the breast meat). We had one which was spicy - the spicy level is very manageable. It is truly Australian because they charge for sauces lol. 🙄 It's yummy but doesn't really give Nandos a run for their money because the peri peri sauce is more distinctive and addictive plus sauces are free woohoo. 😜
