One night I decided to have Indian for dinner, and Saravanaa Bhavan popped up in my head. I have never tried it before, so I was excited. I ordered the garlic naan to be paired with the palak paneer. In all honesty, I have tasted better palak paneer before but this version wasn’t too shabby. The garlic naan wasn’t too garlicky as I thought it would have been, so that’s good for me.

A bit addicted to Indian thali meal lately. I'm always excited to the different item on the plate, each of them taste so unique and good.

Saravana SPL meals, sweet, chappathi, rice, koothu, sambar, rasam, SPL.kuzhambu, two veg curries, raitha, curd, appalam, butter chili and pickle.

Set along Jalan Maarof, Saravanaa Bhavan tempts those with a hungry appetite for a frill-free Chennai Indian Vegetarian lunch. Try the Saravana SPL Meal (RM14), a surefire win with 11 sides including raita, curd, vegetable curries, papadum and butter chilli, all to be eaten with fluffy white rice and a warm chappati. Ice cream and sweets, both included in the meal, will cool down the spice. Also good is the Masala Dosa (RM6) — a rice and lentil crepe served light and crisp with spicy potatoes stuffed in its centre. It looks huge but it's so good, you may just finish the entire portion by yourself.

I'm a huge fan of Indian cuisine, regardless whether it's North or south Indian. During my time in Saravanaa Bhavan, I had the banana leaf set and masala dosa. Though it may not be the best banana I've had, I personally think Saravanaa Bhavan's banana leaf is worth trying if you wanna try something other than your usual Nirvana Maju in Bangsar. The vegetarian curries were great, but maybe just a tad to spicy for me. The rasem on the other hand had a nice balance of flavours from the spices and sourness. As for the other condiments, they compliment and go really well with the curry and rice. The masala dosa on the other hand was just right for me. Crispy, slightly sourish and the spiced potatoes in the middle was amazing. I personally think the chutney best compliments the masala dosa

Having eaten Indian food for three days in a row, I have a growing respect for this cuisine. Saravana Bhavan's growing chain of vegetarian restaurants all over the world is a testament to its passion for bringing Indian cuisine to everyone.
While its menu swags an exhaustive list of Dosa (Thosai) and Rice dishes, it was the Chinese Wok that got our attention. The Chinese Indian cuisine is said to have developed by a small community of Chinese in Kolkata for over a century.
Curious as to what the Gobi Manchurian (RM11.5) is, this dish typically consists of battered and deep-fried cauliflower fried to a familiar kung-po chicken texture, doused in a thicken soy-onion-based sauce. I chose to have this wrapped in Roti (RM5), a thicker rendition of the Chapati. The combination was an unassuming match made in Heaven and truly represented the melting pot of cultures in South East Asia.
