With more than 30 years of experience in this field, Anson, the new Teppanyaki Head Chef at Shima Restaurant has curated a unique and special dish available for a limited time only! This Seafood Trio with Special Sauce ($40.00++) has been thoughtfully prepared with fresh ingredients flown in weekly. It consists of Hokkaido Scallops, King Prawns and Norwegian Salmon with a signature sauce that boasts a spicy, sweet and sour punch in a single bite.
One of the oldest teppanyaki place here and the teppanyaki lobster was impressionable and totally delish with garlic butter infused with the lobster roe. The doneness was perfect.
The sashimi was decent as hor d’oeuvres with otoro of a good thickness. Salmon was a tad on the drier side. The wagyu in medium rare was alright but no sparks. The garlic rice was savory but was served as the last dish with miso soup just before the dessert, which was a shame as we only had a few mouthfuls.
The service was pretty dampening and lacking with majority being student servers and the serving was pretty rush with dishes piling at our table. Point to note: they close at 9:30pm.
Went during Restaurant Week for dinner at one of Singapore's oldest Japanese restaurants. Unfortunately didn't live up to its name...
I would have considered the original restaurant week menu price of SGD68++ per pax overpriced given the quality of the food. For the restaurant week menu, items from the cold bar were served - and I was undeniably disappointed by the quality of the sashimi and sushi that were served. The sushi rice was dry and felt like stale rice that had been left in the fridge over night. And look at the maki (pic) where they didn't even wrap it properly - all 3 pieces for me and all 3 pieces for my companion were like this.
We also topped up for teppanyaki chicken and A5 Wagyu (120g), paying about SGD160++ more in total, since it was supposed to be a teppanyaki restaurant. Chicken and Wagyu were both served with stale dry garlic chips that tasted like it was bought from the supermarket (not prepared freshly). Nothing remarkable. Wagyu was nice of course but I could find more affordable and equally, if not better, options elsewhere easily.
Service wise it was friendly but there was also a trainee who didn't seemed adequately trained. I don't think the level of service matched up to the supposedly reputation of the restaurant and of course the prices. Towards the end of the meal, we received nearly no attention. Unfortunately they seated us in a quiet corner of the restaurant for the DiningCity Restaurant Week menu, so it was hard to even have anyone walking by to catch their attention.
Finally, our table had ants crawling all over. We looked under and realised there was a small section that was uncleaned (rather dusty) and full of ants.
It’s my first visit to Shima after knowing that it’s one of the oldest, if not the oldest Japanese restaurant in Singapore.
Unfortunately the lunch buffet with A5 wagyu ($49.90 + $20) was average.
Requested for medium rare but turned out to be medium well or well done.
Will rather head back to our usual Mikuni at Fairmont for higher quality food.
But overall, it’s a good for value lunch buffet if you’re a big eater.
🔥🔥🔥
Too lazy to cook after exercise.
50% off with #amexplatinum except for the alcohol 😭
Really liked the salmon in Shima sauce which was very soft and flavorful! Scallop and lamb were tender and pleasant to eat too. But the star of the night was the wagyu beef which was simply delicious but more pricey. Beef tenderloin was otherwise decent although I expected more. A pleasant experience overall though, only wish the chef interacted with us more(:
It’s sweet and refreshing! Fresh cherries and soft edamame mocha is served together with the Yabari melon.

What piqued my taste buds was the sweet sesame tofu cube at the core. Relatively denser and firmer, the contrasting texture and flavor against the silky and savoury egg custard makes this dish really enjoyable.

At $49.90++ per head, this Teppanyaki Buffet Lunch was not to be missed! Albeit the high parking charges at Goodwood Park & its location, it's definitely worth a trip to enjoy such good food! It's my 4th time here & the experience is always top notch as usual. I opted for the ala-carte buffet & the items were fried on the hot grill right in front of you a-la-minute! 😍 Service was good & the chefs would even put up a fire show for you if requested. Food items were great, my favourites being the sashimi which were so fresh & thickly sliced! Beef cubes which were made to your liking, (I love mine rare! Had it thrice, once medium, another medium rare and the last time rare, which was the best in my opinion), chicken tossed in teriyaki sauce, a simple but comforting choice! & DEFINITELY the butter grilled prawns which were oozing with cream & buttered oil like wow it was my favourite dish at Shima! 🤤 All items were grilled to perfection on the hot teppanyaki grill & the garlic rice was fried with all the yummy juices from the other food items! Expect other items like Tempura, Oysters, Shishamo, Grilled Veggies too! Though it might be a little pricey for students like myself but a treat once in awhile is necessary!! 👌🏼💯
The fabulous teppanyaki lunch I had a few days ago, prepared by a chef who's been in the line for 20 years. The set includes sashimi, prawn tempura, buttered scallops, king prawns, poached Norwegian salmon (the best teppanyaki salmon I've ever had), assorted vegetables, garlic rice and miso soup. You get to pick your main course from oysters, lamb, chicken, Japanese or Australian wagyu, or US beef tenderloin or rib-eye – I got to try everything and honestly, everything was so delicious that I can't pick one to recommend; it really depends on what your favourite protein is!
4⭐ Booked Shima because there's teppanyaki buffet and it's one of the first teppanyaki restaurant in SG. There's opening promotion where each diner is entitled to 2 mentaiko scallop. The buffet goes in such a way that the teppanyaki chef will serve us all the food from the menu and then we can order additional serving of the food item which we like except the oyster and sashimi. We are extremely full and didn't order additional portion. WB has requested for a cake from the restaurant and a brownie was served.
