Cheap but errrr I would rather go have bibimbap at Hyang Yeon. Ingredients were okay - there’s spinach, seaweed, beansprouts, zucchini, carrots, egg, and beef. Nothing was bad but everything was very average. The rice tho, was terribly mushy - I don’t know if it’s an off-day or what but it was ridiculous, we’ve never had such mushy rice anywhere 😢 The hot stone bowl was really good tho, it kept my food steaming hot (not warm but hot) throughout the meal, and allowed a crust to develop like in claypot rice. That was the only portion of the rice worth eating. The mushy rice I managed to eat was so that I wouldn’t waste food.
Banchan was average as well, there’s seasoned potatoes, beansprouts, kimchi, pickled radish, broccoli, and macaroni. This is definitely one of the least impressive Korean restaurants I’ve been to. Oh well, at least it was cheaper than usual - $14 after service charge and gst.
Honestly one of the best seafood pakcakes eaten!! Its really crispy but thick at the same time🤣 Please see my previous burpple post for Singkoba's review!!
Went to Singkoba for lunch a few days ago and ordered their Stir Fried Chicken lunch set ($10.90), Kimchi Tuna Stew Set ($13), both with soup and rice included, a small seafood pancake ($15) and free banchan!😇 Portions were very filling for 2 pax and food was delicious!😍
Overall ratings 10/10 because of how affordable and yet yummy their food is! Would definitely come back for other lunch items (spoiled for options😅)!!
pretty affordable lunch sets where you get to pick a soup and a main + rice for $17.
there’s 3 stew options to choose from - kimchi stew, soft tofu stew and bean paste stew. we opted for the first two. soft tofu stew was slightly more spicy than the kimchi stew.
As for the mains, we chose the stir fried pork and pork bulgogi which was non- spicy. serving portion was generous this time round.
Also added on an ala carte seafood pancake!! pancake was not oily and was pretty thick.
This place is a hidden gem which serves very tasty and authentic korean food. My favourite place to go for korean. Comes with complimentary gyeranjjim (steam egg) when order 2 servings of bbq meat. Very nice kimchi, stews and has wide varieties of soju. The staff will help u to bbq the meat, hence you don have to worried about overcooking and burnt meat. Best to go during non peak period. I usually go on a Friday evening and we will chill till 11pm+. If it is a Sat evening, the waiting time is SUPER LONG.
(Pardon the bad picture)
Must gets:
- kimchi pancake!!! Super thick and flavouful
- meat here is also ok ish we got a set for $52 which is meant for 2 pax
- army stew here isn’t worth it, barely any noodles in it
Located within walking distance from Telok Ayer MRT (DT Line). Decided to be adventurous and enter a Korean restaurant that I haven’t dined in before along that street and I would say that it’s a pleasant surprise!
It has an authentic setting, with the usual BBQ and stews on the menu. I ordered a Beef Soup and Bibimbap to have a good gauge of the quality of food. Ordering is generally done through the iPad.
Serving of side dishes were generous and they were mostly tasty. Love the kimchi and fish cake! It’s a rare find in SG.
As for the main dishes, the soup was thick and the beef was tender! Only wished that there was more beef in the soup. They have really good gochujang (sauce) to accompany the bibimbap. The chicken in it was yummy too. The portion is generally smaller than what you get in other restaurants but with the side dishes, you will be filled.
Quality is worth more than the quantity for this ! Will come back to try other dishes!
Oh yes. Most of the diners were koreans too!
there's many korean restaurants in the area and always wanted to try this one with their lunch sets. Had the beef bone soup, and felt its creamy but saltier than what I like. The banchans (side dishes) are very much welcomed.
For $13 at this authentic korean setting, its not too bad
These beef cubes are so juicy and succulent, when BBQ to the right level of charred-ness, it's super delicious! 😋😍
I didn't expect it to be such a huge serving. However, once we had a taste of that sweet and kickass-spicy stew of sliced pork and beansprouts, finishing it didn't seem to be too much of a problem 😋 #koreanfood #koreanstew #Singkoba #SingkobaSG #sgfood #instafoodsg #burpple
We walked into this Korean restaurant in the spirit of randomness and felt like we hit the jackpot with this dish. Why? Because it was gastronomic gratification of the Korean kind, pure and simple. Maybe it was the mood we were in and this somehow was that "comfort food" we didn't even know we were looking for. Anyway, the deliciousness was a combination of many elements. To start with, the slices of three-layered pork that had bits of crunchy soft bone cartilage were just the right thickness. They were cooked with a generous amount of fresh, big soy bean sprouts, some seaweed and a few pieces of "ddeok" (Korean glutinous rice cakes) in a sweet and spicy concentrated gravy.
The portion was so large it could be easily shared amongst four persons but the two of us managed to polish off most of it. Yes, we have rather healthy appetites ☺️
As tasty as the five complimentary "banchan" were, I couldn't resist ordering a couple of other sides. The steamed egg and mixed leeks (top left in pic) were priced at $5++ each and were excellent in my opinion.
The steamed egg--practically a soufflé really--came in a heavy cast iron bowl. This gorgeous mound of hot fluffiness was lightly scorched to a golden brown where it came in contact with the bowl, creating an extra fragrant bite.
Fresh and pleasingly pungent, the finely-shredded mixed leeks were dressed in a slightly sour sauce which helped to cut through the richness of the other dishes perfectly.
Pork and squid bulgogi - the Korean version of surf-n-turf and the best of both world.
This is our go-to dish when it comes to Korean food because we get a little bit of everything. @singkoba serves a really good and value-for-$ set lunch. Super shiok!
