Early birds may still encounter a 30-minute queue despite arriving around 7:30am.
.
They cook 1 bowl at a time, methodically. The mee pok / wide flat egg noodles are springy, well coated with the balanced gravy of black vinegar, light soy sauce, flat fish, pork lard, fried shallots, and sambal chili. Bold with savoury salty sour spicy flavour.
.
The minced pork is tender and fresh, while the deshelled shrimp is juicy and succulent; both lending a meaty sweet savoury flavour.
.
The chewy pork meat ball is meaty and salty savoury, while the juicy braised mushrooms with vegetal earthy salty notes complete the old-school taste, yum.

This bowl of dry Bak Chor Mee Pok, from the same coffeeshop as Loo's Hainanese Curry Rice, comes topped with fresh prawns, pork slices, minced pork, pork ball, Teochew dumplings and braised mushroom. The ingredients are all very fresh and well marinated. I especially like the Teochew dumplings which are so full of sole fish flavour.
I don't fancy al dante mee pok but it should not be soggy too. The mee pok here is done just right with the right balance of lard, black vinegar and chilli.
I have not tried every Bak Chor Mee stall in Singapore but I dare to say this is one of the best out there. You need to have the patience though for every bowl of the BCM is slowly cooked and put together so the waiting time can be long especially during peak hours.

Good BCM with generous serving of ingredients. Soup was flavourful. As it is run solely by an old uncle, be prepared for the queue to move very slowly. (~30min)
This is the ba chor mee (without a name) opposite Tiong Bahru hawker centre. Itâs in the same coffee shop as Looâs Hainanese Curry Rice (71 Seng Poh Road), which has an equally long queue, so make sure youâre in the right queue.
What I love about this BCM is how much ingredients you get - itâs nuts!! This was their $6 bowl, but it comes with 3 (deshelled!) prawns, lots of meat slices and chunks, mushrooms, a meatball, and 3 wantons! I like their wantons in particular because theyâre extremely tasty, and almost a bit sweet. The soup is also great and the taste kind of resembles the wantons. The noodles here arenât the best for me- theyâre okay, but I still like this BCM overall because thereâs just so much stuff to eat.
It was a >20 mins wait and was slightly disappointing (maybe cause we had high expectations). While the ingredients were tasty, overall, the dish was a tad too oily. The soup was nice but very sweet (was there sugar?). Weâd say to just stick to eating the curry rice đ
đĺĺ, next to Loo Hainanese Curry Rice, 71 Seng Poh Road (Tiong Bahru)
We loved this traditional bowl of bak chor mee with fresh ingredients!
