More Reviews of good food at Watami Japanese Dining 和民居食屋 (The Star Vista)

Tempura set was huge. Tonpeiyaki was not bad. Food were priced somewhat reasonably and tastes ok. However, the ambience is lacking and the place is rather understaffed.

Extensive menu of Japanese food.

Nice place to hang out with friends.

Food here were all ok, nothing really fantastic. Entry level Japanese food.

Sashimi and seafood were relatively fresh. Serving not so big.

Ramen was forgettable.

Hotpot was rather good.

Ordinary japanese beef slices don with onsen egg, miso soup and a drink. Beef slices were tasty, but overall ordinary for the price.

Pork was quite soft and thick, but not the best pork bowl. The chicken cutlet set was worth it with the student meal promotion since the portion is big too. Sauce is quite salty but goes well with the fried chicken, although quite fatty.

Omaiiii another super affordable Jap place with SO MUCH variety!!!! Super worth student meal both sets cost $26.80 in the end and there was SO MUCH food!!! Pork Shabu in Dashi (seafood) stock WAS so flavourful which was totally unexpected and so much pork were served. Tendon was YUMS too!! Tempura fish, chicken, potato, prawns 😍 queue can be slightly long on a weekday aft but worth!!

This shabu shabu has a pretty sweet soup base. I ordered the hottest level of spiciness but it is not too spicy for me haha, maybe my tolerance is too high.

First time back in Watami after years. Had the watami salad (+$1), bacon pizza (+$1), pork hot pot with udon, salmon carpaccio, teriyaki chicken, gyudon and salmon maki and 3 drinks.
Food was average but still good. If you are going there in groups get this set as it is pretty worth it

By far, this is the only dish ordered that i really wouldn't recommend😶 Not nearly as cheesy enough as I would have liked, and the mentaiko was merely a whiff. Tofu was hard and dry which I didn't really fancy. It was more of like a tau pok i guess?

Generous drizzle of mentaiko sauce over scallops which tasted really fresh and sweet. The scallops were so tender and melted in my mouth delightfully. 10/10 would order again!

Thick and well marinated chunks of unagi. I love that they don't skimp on quality ingredients so you really get your money's worth, unlike some other restaurants where you leave feeling cheated because their makis are mostly rice with measely, thin slices of unagi.

For $13.90, The Extreme Tendon consisted of a large battered fish, a chicken breast, avacado, sweet potato, an onsen egg as well as two glorious tempura prawns. All of these were fried to crisp perfection and it was not too oily. The sauce on the tendon had a strong hint of sesame oil and there was enough sauce such that the rice had flavour as well.

Very filling and satisfying meal, the hotpot alone with a bowl of rice to share was way enough for two people. 🤩

Super value for money if you are a student and go during lunch! (Shabu shabu was a little bit worth it though)

Lucky for me, I managed to find out about Watami's Lunch Set Menus, starting from $9.90++. I had the Pepper Beef Rice in Stone Pot Set ($9.90) which was pretty much similar to a hot stone chain restaurant, but with better grade beef & ventilation.
The generous slices of beef lays atop a bed of what seem to be garlic seasoned rice, and sprinkled with corn, salt & pepper. As it's a hot stone pot, the heat from the stone cooks the beef quickly which leaves you a nice char to the beef, plus some crispy chunks of rice with that.
Each lunch set comes with a side salad, an agedashi tofu, miso soup and a choice of drink (tea or soft drinks). Definitely one of the more worth it set menus I've had in quite awhile! •

The crispy tofu was coated with layers of cheese and mentaiko. The combination of mentaiko and cheese is always my favourite but too bad the tofu was a tad too bland for my liking. Maybe I should have tried their Rolled Omelette with Mentai & Cheese instead! 🙄

Rice with salmon and butter served on a hotstone! The salmon roe indeed made the dish taste better 😊
