Throwback to my visit when they moved to my hood. It's rare to put comforting and shiok together.

This fish soup stall does fish soup very differently compared to other establishments, and I must say that their rendition is absolutely amazing!

You have to get their black and white ee mian ($7/10), especially their large portion which comes with an abundant amount of sliced fish and fried fish. It may be quite expensive, but this bowl is worth the treat!

The broth itself is very unique as not only do you taste the deep savoury fish umami notes, you can taste a strong flavour of bay leaves as well! The bay leaves provided an extra aroma which is greatly appreciated. The sliced fish slices were also rather thick and bouncy which says alot about their freshness!

Their fried fish slices are a speciality here, as they serve them separately. I can see the reason why, as they had such a wonderful crunch! The taste is quite similar to fried fish skin and definitely as addictive as well.

I queued for about 40 minutes and honestly it was quite worth the wait. Fish soup lovers, please try this rendition and you won't regret!

Zion Road Blk 91 An Shun Fish Soup
174C Hougang Ave 1, Singapore 533174

This stall was previously located at Zion Road (and therefore the name) before it shifted to its current location 10 years ago. I will be honest and say that I didn't know it existed until a couple of months ago.

I usually have sliced fish soup because it kinda defeats the purpose of having fried fish if it is going to be dunked into the soup and get all soggy (and also for health reason). I must say that in comparison to others, Zion Road's fish soup is milder in terms of flavours. It is light, clear and subtly sweet. There is no MSG used and the natural sweetness comes from hours of boiling high quality fish bones. I also like that they gave loads of vegetables with the soup. The sliced fish is fresh but a little too thinly sliced for my liking.

The fried fish however is simply the bomb. The batter is crispy and crunchy and the interior flavourful and juicy. This is as good as and if not better than the fried fish from the no-name fish soup stall at Alexandra Village which I really like.

I think I might have found a worthy alternative to Han Kee which is nearer to home (but the queue is similarly nasty long)!

One of the few hawkers I've returned to several times. Still an incredible fried fish. They're fried to such addictiveness. The soup itself may be less special but it's secondary.

Love the portions but it definitely lacked the ingredients such as bitter gourd and egg floss (fried egg whites) which could make the flavours more intense!
