Salmon mentaiko donburi bowl was so belly comforting and affordable! Around $10?

Made a recent visit to 300 Boru only to realised they seemed to have changed their concept recently. Now serving up Taiwanese fare, they are serving up Taiwanese comfort food such as Pork Rib Noodles and Braised Pork Rice at the same affordable prices as what 300 Boru used to do before. It is noted that they seem to run out of food rather quickly, considering how we got the last portion of rice during lunch hour.

Priced at $6.50, the portion of meat was rather measly as compared to other places serving similar fare especially at other spots serving similar fair. While the meat was perfectly tender and juicy, the sauce felt flat-tasting; lacking of the contrast from the star anise that is typical of other Braised Pork Rice bowls. Bits of diced mushroom provides some bite, though I thought I could feel better if there were more meat in here, while the tiny quail eggs carried a decent flavour but again, smaller than the full braised egg that other places offer at cheaper rates. Not really sure if this is a change I would find acceptable at 300 Boru, but it’s a little hard to be convinced at the price.

Ordered the Mazemen Koru ramen with cheese sauce with the last $8 in my wallet hoping to have a taste of delicious Japanese ramen. But I ended up not finishing it as it was too thick and mushy to swallow which almost made me have a gag reflex. It was a total let down down for me being a huge fan of cheese but this was something I could not swallow. Service was slow despite me being the only customer in the shop.

Although most people came here for their Mazemen, but I choose to try their aburi salmon don instead. It comes with torched salmon and sushi rice with mentaiko sauce. Which taste great if you like to eat salmon. The sauce won’t overwhelming yet still able to taste the salmon meat. $9.90

A small cozy place in town that specializes in dry ramen, but also offers rice bowls and sweets. All items on the menu, that's quite limited, cost below $10.
Really worth the price I would say, for this bowl of mentaiko goodiness. Not too fishy, instead the savory mentaiko and the tangy mayonnaise of the mentaiko sauce were pretty appetizing. Could get a little jelak towards the end though due to the creamy thick sauce. Hidden beneath that luscious sauce were pieces of torched salmon. Slight disappointment as I couldn't really taste the charred flavour that's probably masked by the mentaiko sauce. And finally topped by a generous serving of fish roe which adds texture when each bursts in the mouth 🤤

Got the chance to head down to 300Boru within Geisha Specialty Coffee for lunch today — serving up really affordable ramen and donburi for less than $10.00, it is needless to say that the space was actually pretty occupied during our visit at lunch hour though there seems to be a fast turnover for every table.

At $9.90, there isn't much to complain here — there's actually quite a good portion of salmon underneath all that savoury mayo. Overall though it's decent for its price, but if I were to nitpick, it seemingly tasted more of mayo; the slight char from the aburi just don't seem to be strong enough here. Still, the portion seems pretty substantial enough without leaving one in a food coma — a place that would satisfy the office workers/students in the neighbourhood for how it is of a decent quality at the price point. Looking forward to try their ramen the next time I make a visit; looked so good seeing what others have ordered.
