Came here for lunch. Ordered the Gyu Don v2.0 ($16), Yummy Tiger Prawn Pasta ($20) and Sweet Potato Caramel Latte ($6).
Gyu Don v2.0: Thinly Sliced USA Beef Shortplate cooked in Aromatic Reduction & Caramelized Onions, Tempura Onions, Japanese Pearl Rice, Onsen Lava Egg. Beef slices were well marinated and tender. Tempura onion on the other hand was disappointing. Soft and unseasoned.
Yummy Tiger Prawn Pasta: Linguine, Creamy Tom Yum Sauce, Tiger Prawns, Cherry Tomatoes, Kaffir Lime. The tomyum flavour was not bad. The prawns however do seem a little small and somehow I feel that using fresh prawns would be better for this dish.
The sweet potato caramel latte was excellent. Milky, creamy, sweet and delicious. Highly recommend getting this drink. Service was not bad. Servers were attentive enough to top up our water.
Ordered the beef don ($10.90) with the addition of miso soup, mini salad and chawamushi (+$2).
Miso soup was not bad. Mini salad was refreshing with the roasted sesame dressing. Chawamushi could use more dashi flavour. But for the price paid it was ok.
Beef don was not bad. The portion size was ok. The beef was quite tender but could use more salty-ness.
Overall not too bad.
Ordered the 干锅肥肠 which is basically pig's interesting with chili.
I like how the intestine did not have a strong smell. Green chili was thinly sliced. Black fungus was crunchy. The flavour of this dish was really good. Not too spicy and slightly numbing.
They have a food buzzer so that you'll know when to collect your food. Would definitely come back to try their other dishes.
I placed my order and was given a food buzzer.
Once the buzzer rang, I went to the shop and the aunty drizzled the black sauce and sesame oil on the rice while I ladle some chili sauce.
The claypot rice was topped with chicken chunks, thinkly sliced Chinese sausage, kailan(?) and a piece of salted fish. I mixed it all together and couldn't wait to eat it as the smell of salted fish hit me.
I tried the chicken and it was really tender. Next, I tried the Chinese sausage and it was good. The veggie was crunchy and good too. However when you eat it all together somehow it was a on the bland side. I felt that they could have given a bigger piece of salted fish to mix into the rice or added some salty elements to the dish. Chili sauce was good thought. Spicy and good.
Overall, the chicken was cooked perfectly but the claypot rice could use more salty-ness.
Ordered via Grab.
Cold Cut Trio with Parmesan Oregano, Pandan and White Chocolate Macadamia Cookie.
I toasted my bread so it was crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. Taste wise, I can't seem to taste the parmesan or oregano. For the vegetables, I was a little disappointed as you can only choose a maximum of 6 veggies but nonetheless the veggies were all good and fresh. The meat and dressing were good too.
Pandan Cookie. It smells just like your pandan chiffon cake but taste-wise not as pandan-y. I do like the chewy and slight crispy texture of the cookie.
White Chocolate Macadamia Cookie. Crispier than the pandan one. The macadamia provided a good crunch.
Overall it was okay. A healthier option (minus the cookies) in place of our hawker food.
Came here for dinner and ordered their Teriyaki Chicken with Onion Rings and Garden Veggies. For those who have never eaten at Aston's, orders are placed at the counter and for each main order, you get to choose two sides for it.
The chicken was perfectly cooked. Meat was tender, well seasoned and had a smoky flavour to it. Teriyaki sauce on the other hand was not to my liking as it was too sweet.
Onion Rings were not bad. Not the best but not the worst. A little more flour-y than onion-y. Garden Veggies are basically broccoli and carrots. They were crunchy and good. A good balance to a not so healthy meal.
Ordered a medium Jam's Oolong Milk Tea with Pearl, 30% sweetness.
Oolong milk tea was fragrant and smooth. The sweetness was just nice. Pearls was chewy and tasty. Overall, it was really good.
Do note that it'll cost an extra $0.10 if you need a bag for your bbt.
Order their Boba Milk Tea, M size ($3.20). The milk tea was fragrant and sweet. Boba were chewy and tasty as well. The only thing is that some of their boba were clumped together and I do think that they could be slightly more generous with the Boba.
Overall a good place to get your bubble milk tea craving satisfied.
Love China skewered meats so we came here with my friend for an early dinner. Ordering is placed via scanning a QR code on a piece of paper which directs you to their ordering website.
We ordered most of their meat and honestly have no idea which meat was which but they were not bad. The meat are all cooked before being placed on a grill in front of us. There's also an option of spicy or not spicy. The difference is the addition of chili powder to the spicy option which IMO is not really spicy.
Ordered the grilled leek which was really good and flavourful.
Pig ears with cucumber were good as well. Crunchy, chilled and flavourful.
Tinfoil clam. Clam soup with Enoki mushroom. Soup was not bad but tasted like chicken seasoning. Do order the not spicy version if you can't take spicy.
Overall would recommend the grilled leek!
Came with my friend for lunch and we ordered the Ox Tongue ($18). The chef first put a slab of butter onto the hot grill before grilling the ox tongue and seasoning with salt. It was tasty and went well with the squeeze of a lemon wedge.
We also ordered the Seafood Monja ($16) with additional cheese ($3) which consisted of squid and shrimp plus the usual Monja batter. I didn't watch how the chef prepared it as I was busy making takoyaki. I only saw the end product which looked like a gooey pancake. Taste wise it was good but lacked crunchiness. However near the end, the bottom of the Monja was crispy which helped elevate the dish.
We also got the DIY takoyaki. The staff set up a small table beside us and brought over the takoyaki equipment with the batter and ingredients. The staff explained to us how to cook the takoyaki step by step which was super helpful.
Overall food was not bad and staff were friendly.
I came here together with my friend for lunch.
Ordered the Pork Cutlet Omelet Curry ($16.90) with level 2 spiciness. The curry was not bad. Spicy enough for me to enjoy the heat. The curry paired well with the silky omelet and perfectly cooked rice. The pork cutlet was not bad, though I wish it was crispier and more tender.
My friend got the Chicken Cutlet Curry ($13.90), standard spiciness with an additional 120g of rice ($1.50) and a boiled egg ($1.10). The chicken cutlet was much better compared to the pork. It was crispy and not too tough.
Overall what I like about this place is the fact that you can customize the amount of rice and spiciness of the curry. However service could use improvement as it did take quite some time before we managed to order our food.
Came here for dinner.
I got the Sakae Tempura Noodle ($15.30). I had their cold Soba which was not bad. The tempura was quite good though. Hot and slightly crispy. The tempura had a good variety of eggplant, Enoki, Crabstick and some other ingredients which I forgot.
My parents had the Sakae Tendon ($10.90) which came with the same variety of tempura. Honestly the don seemed more worth as it's cheaper and comes with miso soup. I was really sad about the fact that the cold Soba did not come with miso soup.
We also tried the Salmon Karaage ($2.60) which tasted very average and the California Temaki ($2.60) which was good.
Overall would recommend the Sakae Tendon and California Temaki.
