After the lunch at two-months-old “Banh Mi Thit” left us feeling rather underwhelmed, Burppler Dex Neo suggested we visit “Sia Kee Duck Rice”, a stall he has had on his Burpple wishlist, for lunch part two. So we walked less than half a kilometre down Geylang Road to the corner Sin Huat Eating House where the stall is located and in the spirit of true foodies everywhere, over-ordered.
That’s how we ended up with a platter piled with half a duck (very tender of flesh), duck liver (superbly creamy), braised eggs, “tau kwa” (this was the best!) and fish cake topped with sweet, soft peanuts, cuttlefish and blanched bean sprouts. Over it all went the distinctive aromatic and tasty thick braising sauce.
Tucking into this goopy-licious heap of protein lifted up our spirits. Coupled with the extremely cheery service from the Oh brothers - Ron, Laurence and Albert, who co-own and operate “Sia Kee Duck Rice”, we couldn’t help but be all smiles by the time we left.

The soup was very flavourful and has a lot of depth. I chose the normal spice level and it really had a kick. They were generous with the beef and it wasnt dry or overcooked like it sometimes is in beef noodles. There is a choice of a few types of noodles and I chose the glass noodles which is what Thai boat noodles usually come in. The noodles were chewy and absorbed the flavourful soup well. Overall a great bowl of noodles. My favourite boat noodles in Singapore as of now.

The milk tea ($2.20) isn't what I am used to. Very sweet and not my cup of tea 😜. Has some sort of herbalish flavour? Can't put my finger on it. Won't get it again though.

Macaroni Tossed in Yummy Triple Cheese Sauce, Topped with Crispy Breadcrumbs Baked till Golden Brown.I love the fact that the sauce was a good consistency. Thick, Creamy, Velvety and Cheesy. Pasta was al dente. Overall I give it a 7/10.

Another dish worth trying is the "Krusty Krab" Benedict ($19.50). Golden Crabcake Pillow with Chipotle Aioli, Crispy Bacon, Grilled Asparagus, Poached Eggs & Hollandaise Sauce on Toasted Brioche Bread with Side of Baby Green Salad. Spicy Sweet Crabcake, Crispy on the Outside and Soft in the Inside accompanied with the Creamy Buttery Hollandaise Sauce and Toasted Bread was a perfect combination. Overall I give this dish 8/10.

A dish you should stay away from is the Truffle Fries ($9.50 for small). Fries were like Soggy(?) Maybe cause they are Handcut. Truffle taste was like not present while the taste of Garlic was strong. Feel like they should rename it to Garlic Fries instead. Overall I give it a 4/10.

Exceptional dining experience at this restaurant. Delicious food, nice ambiance, reasonable priced. Fine dining at very reasonable and affordable price. 👍👍👍

Smoked eggplant served on freshly baked sourdough ($11). Highly recommend this (also suitable for vegetarians), do note that limited seating is available and seating is all outdoors.

Not much for their main menu so far, but ought to try their waffles! :

Sitting atop the waffle is a rich scoop of brownie ice cream ($8) which isn't too sweet, paired with Nutella sauce at the bottom, surprise for choc lovers!

I can see why it’s such a hit. The porridge is cooked in duck broth and every bite is chockfull of seafood and crispy rice. Such a heartwarming dish.

I'm pretty sure I'd be a fat boy if I worked nearby, cause this Bacon & Chip Butty is impossible to resist! 🥓

Bacon, a wobbly fried egg and a hash brown – sounds simple enough. But the sum of its parts is so much more! That super crisp hash gave every bit this amazing crunch and aroma that's just addictive with bacon and eggs. Meh, who needs a diet anyway. 😂

Hidden away in the basement of Liang Court is this longtime gem—a little izakaya-like joint that has been quietly pleasing diners with its comforting cuisine and variety of Japanese liquor. I went with what seemed to be the crowd favourite, the Simmered Pork Belly Set Meal ($17), also available a la carte.

The layer of fat on top may frighten dieters, but that's exactly what brings out the flavour of the braised pork. It goes together with the meaty flesh like butter on bread, melting deliciously in the mouth. It also comes with a perfectly molten ajitama tamago (ramen-style egg), which I enjoyed with the deliciously addictive braising sauce. The set came with pickles, creamy peanut beancurd (amazingly smooth texture, like panna cotta), and fried meat miso (an interesting Okinawan pork miso seasoned with sake and mirin). I swopped the white rice with seasoned rice (+$1) instead, and it was super worth it. Studded with seaweed, pork, and carrots, it was moist and flavourful.

Also ordered a small portion of Champloo (Bitter gourd, egg, and pork stir-fried with tofu, $6.80 for small, $8.80 for regular) because I just had to try it. It's easily the best bitter gourd dish I've had. Its bitterness balanced out by the sweetness of miso, the egg & tofu added great texture, even the pork was delightfully tender. While it was too much for a solo diner like myself, the generous portion could very well feed 2-3pax nicely. Definitely worth a try if comfort is what you're seeking, or just a change from the usual Japanese stuff.

Oh my this dish was the absolute winner for me that night. I usually steer clear of this type of pork belly cos they would be either too fatty or porky taste too strong. But I'd read so many good reviews about this dish that I had to have it. Seriously this one was the best I ever had. The meat fat ratio was perfect and it was melt in the mouth tender. No porky taste at all! Just the sweet savory sauce that was so good I licked up every drop. I love that this place opens till late.

Nestled at ION Orchard B4, this is the No. 1 Udon noodle restaurant chain in the world. It has multiple outlets across the world, not only in Japan but also in Hong Kong, Thailand and the United States, just to name some.
Going for the dry option, I decided to choose this simple Udon dish which happens to be one of their best sellers. After mixing everything together, I feel that the varying flavours complemented each other pretty well. However, it got jelak after a while and didn’t taste as yummy as before.
One thing for sure, their Udon noodles is worth a mention.

Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Best with mutton curry!!
