More Reviews of good food at Haráru Izakaya

Didn’t have the opportunity to take proper pictures, the food looked too good to resist!
First off, it literally took them 10 minutes for the food to constantly arrive, which i commend them for! Second, the food is so goooooood, even though my pics dont do this place justice. Really good for a halal restaurant
We ordered:
Garlic fried rice ($10)
Unagi ($18)
Mentai Chicken Cutlet ($16)

The Garlic fried rice is delishhhhhh, i recommend you guys to share the portions (order mains to share and maybe share the rice as well, ordered 2 garlic rice bowls for 3 of us), even though it is small but it is adequent.

First time eating at a muslim-owned Japanese restaurant and their offerings were many and tasty. The bowl came with small pieces of unagi served on a bed of fried rice. Fried with egg, the rice was flavourful though abit dry and salty. The unagi was of reasonably good quality, slightly charred and crisp, with a sticky sweet taste from the sauce. A satisfying donburi dish overall!

While this spot is popular after work, their foolproof rice bowls are a great excuse to come at lunch. Opt for the crowd favourite Salmon Hotate Chirashi Don ($16) that comes with scallop, cubes of salmon, tamago, nori and topped with an abundance of fish roe. If you're feeling famished, the filling Grilled Ribeye ($24) might be a better option. Think well-seasoned meat accompanied by two kinds of wasabi pastes for the ultimate pairing!

Stewed beef so tender, it almost melts in your mouth 😍❤️ This is definitely a must-order on their menu. Very flavorful & umami. Would recommend ordering a bowl of rice to go w it & soak up all that amazing sauce. Yummeh!

A really generous serving of tako! 🐙🐙 Has a good kick of wasabi w crunchy, fresh tako. The mixture is abit on the watery side but doesn't affect flavor at all. Makes a great appetizer before your meal.

A refreshing & super flavorful don. The salmon & scallop cubes are fresh but sliced a lil' on the slimmer side. This bowl seems to be a tad sweet due to the sauce that they use but isn't too overpowering. The fresh seafood, tamago, nori & fish roe paired w the rice makes a great lunch option. It isn't too heavy & you'd be safe from a food coma after. 🍣⭐️

Second time at this place. Tried the salmon & hotate chirashi don! Really fresh and delicious! What’s more, it’s halal-certified so Muslim friends can enjoy good Jap food too! 😋

The place was nicely done up to look like the real deal i.e. an izakaya. The wait staff were also nice and courteous. As for the food and the price tag it came with, I am generally not blown away by the portion (check out the size of the unagi in the picture). The portions were not standardised as another person in our party ordered the same Unagi Don and the Unagi portion was much more than mine). The nice touch was the Japanese Tea which they kept refilling for us. I am giving overall 3 stars only because of the service. Food was ok only and not wow! Spectacular! kind. Place accepts credit cards payment and there's GST and Service charge.

[Halal] Smattered with flakes of salt, the Wagyu Kushi is one appetizer that embodies the adjective 'calculated'. Not in any bad way, but in a good and impressive way.

And my reason for saying this is that the oyster mushroom (I need to confirm this) plus the slightly-charred cubic chunk of wagyu beef mostly lacked taste (though texture-wise it made for very satisfying bite).

However, the flakes of salt and a sauce that infused both wasabi and pickles each added a dimension to the overall flavour, elevating it to a remarkable taste that signals to a recipe that has been fine-tuned for the umpteenth time.

The grassy and acidity from the wasabi presents itself in hints, as it unveils itself from a shroud of tanginess from the pickling juice. Add salt into the equation and what you get is an emboldened flavour, devoid of the wasabi's traditional mouth-singing sensation. Truly, the combination was skillfully executed; a testament of a cook that knows the trick to manipulate one's tasting experience. I'd like to think of it as a calculated taste.

Yet, with all the praise it gets, it has its flaws too. I can't help but feel that the thick, succulent wagyu beef cubes were overdone, albeit marginally. It made for a chunky texture which could have been softer, more moist and melty, had it not missed the mark.

In addition, I do feel that paying $15 for just two sticks requires at least a compelling reason. But for what it was worth, I don't think I'd made too bad of a choice! (7.8/10)

[Halal] The Chicken Teriyaki Don ($14.90) may sound and look like a fare too commonplace to impress, but this was, to my wildest surprise, remarkably finessed. Peek the footed bowl which arches to a higher back, and what do we have? Some white rice garnished nori flakes, black sesame seeds, bonito flakes, with a couple pieces of tamago, red pickles, slices of cucumber and chopped teriyaki chicken.

I'll admit. I wasn't too impressed with its façade at first, and with how difficult it is to get a decent shot of this. But upon ingestion, all forms of negative impression were negated, and in turn became purified into a positive one, more specifically, a state of awe. Because there's no other sincere way to put this - this was freaking delicious. Whether we're talking about the honeyed teriyaki sauce, the tangy and crunchy fun-sized pickles or the tamago which shines with its characteristically unusual sweetness - all of them are killing it in their own lane, but still know how to bond into a herculean lattice of flavours. The ultimate result is what I like to call, a one true harmony.

This was a stunner that would have easily yielded a 9.0, but I think their service has some room for improvement. I was greeted to a lukewarm service which lacked proactiveness, although what made up for that was that it got progressively better.

Yet, with all things considered, this is certainly one place I'd recommend Muslim foodies who are adamant about having a good degree of halal-ness to their edibles to give a shot. Because good food is waiting for all of you with open arms, at Haráru Izakaya. (8.3/10)

Lunch offerings are (very) limited.Visit them during dinner hours for their full menu.

I think the food is reasonably priced, but I was taken aback by the prices of drinks. The cheapest is $6 for flavoured sodas, even a standard Coke. And the drinking glass served is quite petite. It goes up to $8 and $14 for fresh jufices and mocktails. Just FYI.

I enjoyed my first visit enough to come back again, definitely during dinner time to try their skewers and grilled items. I'll also have to choose if I want to sit upstairs or by the gorgeous bar setup. Decisions, decisions.

For lunch, their rice bowls come with free miso soup, salad and free-flow hot green tea.We gasped a little when they put this bowl on our table. What a nice and appetizing presentation!

Thank goodness it tastes as good as it looks. The salmon, rice, soup and salad were all approved by my lunch buddy. She struggled to finish the generous portions too.

Since I didn't eat much of this, I want to talk a bit about their service. I regret not asking for the name of the waiter in green baju melayu. Yes, they were all dress in baju kurung that day, so cute and festive! Our waiter was very attentive and kept his eye on the 1st floor tables. I mean, how many times have we encountered wait staff who are standing right in front of us, but their eyes and mind have wandered off to a land far far away? So, good sir in the green baju melayu, thanks for your service.

I started off by tasting the beef slices. It's peppery with a bit of char, and sliced thinly so it's easy to eat. I liked it so much that I set some aside on a plate so the flavours wouldn't get lost in the soup.

The soup itself was light but really savoury. I like that the udon was firm but not too chewy. I couldn't stop eating this until the last 1/4 of the bowl as the portion was simply too generous. One of the more excellent soupy noodles dishes I've ever had.

It's Japanese for me. I wanted something like a bowl of ramen, so I decided to give this new place a try.

For starters, my lunch buddy and I shared this plate of prawn dumpling. I do love the texture - steamed then lightly pan fried. Too bad I couldn't taste any prawn flavour. Maybe the chicken option would have a stronger flavour. The chilli dipping sauce saved this dish - spicy, savoury and so addictive.

Tuck into Japanese food at this new Muslim-owned izakaya at Bussorah Street. Decked out in dark wood and Japanese-inspired wall art, this atmospheric space is great for a lunch date or dinner with the family. Come by with a few colleagues for their donburi lunch sets; both the Salmon Teriyaki Don ($12) and Unagi Don ($13) are tasty choices. Each set comes with a salad, miso soup and free flow green tea. Come dinner time, expect an izakaya style menu that includes a la carte grilled skewers and bar bites. Burppler Riny Wan loves the well-seasoned Grilled Ribeye ($24) as well as the generous portions of Tori Karaage ($8, fried chicken). Take her advice and skip the overpriced dealcoholised wine ($16/glass). Pro tip: Ask to sit upstairs for a tatami dining experience.
Avg Price: $30 per person

Salmon Teriyaki Don contains grilled salmon with Teriyaki sauce, tamago, pickles and rice. The silky salmon skin with slightly charred edges is very enjoyable, and the Teriyaki sauce gives this dish more flavours.
