More Reviews of good food at Jeh O Chula

To skip the queue at this super famous restaurant among locals and tourists alike, one can buy the vouchers on klook. Sadly, I bought the wrong vouchers and we did get to try the mama noodles 😭

Nonetheless, we got to try their other signature dishes, including their roast pork belly and salmon sashimi appetiser!

The Roast Pork Belly is really a winner. Wonderful crispy crackling with tender succulent meat, this meat is really addictive. Pair this with the sweet black sauce given and you really can't stop! Really one of the best roasted pork belly I've had.

The salmon sashimi appetiser was pretty interesting, as I don't think I've had raw salmon marinated in a spicy tangy sauce. Still, the salmon was fresh and the tangy sauce actually made it very refreshing!

Will be back to try the mama noodles again 😂

That is what we did for one of the evenings by having supper at Jeh O Chula, an immensely popular late night street food in town that at times you have to queue for at least two hours before you get a table.

Fortunately, we bought the express pass voucher from Klook prior to that, and the voucher also comes with a set meal of food. Hence, we are able to skip the queue and got a table within 10 minutes upon reaching the stipulated time indicated on the voucher. We got the Set B ($30.39) which comes with a small pot of Jeh O’s Famous Mama Tom Yum with mixed seafood, eggs and pork meatballs in it, Jeh O’s Signature Crispy Pork Belly, Yum Salmon of salmon sashimi in a sour spicy Thai sauce and a plate of stir-fried morning glory. The set is more than enough to feed 2-3 pax and you can order more when you in the restaurant, so that is a trick to get your table without braving the queues.

The highlight of the meal has got to be the Mama Tom Yum pot, a pool of comfort food in a creamy spicy broth that you cannot get enough of. Is this worth an air ticket to come to Bangkok for? I would say a resounding yes; the other tom yum mama in Singapore just didn’t have the x-factor and taste that Jeh O Chula brings to the table. The use of fresh seafood, huge meatballs and that addictive broth makes it a killer combination.

Loaded with seafood, the flavourful tomyum broth was the right amount of spicy and sour. Do you know where we can get this in Singapore?

A dark horse, Jeh O's Sweet Pork Sausage (THB40) which we thought would have been a measly portion, was very good. Sliced to the perfect thickness, each had a heady aroma and were fried to a lovely crisp exterior. They didn’t taste oily either and leaned towards the sweet. We even noted locals buying several of the waxed sausages home. A must try if you are there.

Undoubtedly my favourite meal during my trip to Bangkok earlier this year, Jeh O Chula was really good and crazy affordable! Bummed that I wasn’t there for their insane Mama Tom Yum which was only available for supper after 11pm, the dinner zhi char-style meal was still fantastic. The wait was also manageable, being in line for about 30 to 40 minutes with the help of our hotel concierge calling ahead for us.

The first bowl of Tom Yum (THB150) that I actively partook in, Jeh O Chula’s rendition was sweet, sour and so pleasantly spicy. The blend of flavours were terribly addictive with not one element overpowering another. The fragrant and tangy, almost zesty base also had a trace of umami goodness from the seafood - just hitting all the right notes. Super shiok!

Mmm, planned to have supper here but came a little late and most of the dishes are sold out. ⁣Was craving for that life changing spicy salmon sashimi that I had previously but I guess this means I have another reason to come back here again! Luckily for me, their famous Thai hotpot was still available. I always thought this was the Thai version of Korean army stew seeing as to how both works the same way - affordable and easy to cook ingredients thrown in a pot together with instant noodles - and people being a sucker for it and paying a premium for this pot. Glad to announce, I’m a proud and happy sucker for such items. ⁣

This is one of Bangkok’s favourite places for late night supper, and its signature dish was a social media hit and instagrammable viral wonder.

This dish was the humble but “luxurious” Tom Yum Mama.

Jeh O Chula also offers a variety of tasty cooked food dishes – our Singapore equivalent will be a zhi-char shop, so much so that it was even awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

After Burppler @happygreedyfoodie shared with me that it is possible to order @jeh_o_chula’s food for delivery to your hotel, I knew it was inevitable we would have it for #supper one night.
That’s why we were slurping bowls of #jehochula’s famous Tom Yum Mama Noodle Pot in our pajamas late last night. This feat could not have been accomplished without assistance from our concierge as he had to use the Lineman app (everything in there is in Thai) to order for us.
I have to say though, although the noodles were delicious, they weren’t anywhere near the mind-blowing level of my memory. Of course the fact that it was delivered probably accounts for that. Therefore, I would still recommend going down and braving the long wait at Jeh-o-Chula itself if you want to savour this and their other dishes at their piping hot best.

This place had went viral after posting of the huge tom yum pots that’s only available from 11 pm. So be prepared to wait from 20min to an hour plus for a seat, that’s how crazy the queue is!

Loaded with ingredients such as prawn, squid, meatballs, chunks of crab meat, crispy siuyoke (roast pork) and springy MAMA instant noodles, this Tom Yum Hotpot can easily feed 6 pax or more. Mix with chilli padi, ginger slices and more, the tangy tom yum soup was so spicy that I was sweating after just one bowl! Though my companions fare much better, even wishing it was spicier.

Not for its Instagram worthiness but who would queue for 2 hours close to midnight for some mama instant noodles, unless it must be damn good. Thanks to @veronicaphua who first told me about it and @that_dex who found a way to avoid the queues and @happygreedyfoodie who actually ordered it and taught me how to, I did it last night with a lot of help from our wonderful butler from St Regis using Line Man. Well, was it worth the hype and the wait? Utterly, totally and I would order it again. The ingredients were amazing. Freshly roasted siew yoke, pork meatballs and seafood in a rich, punchy Tom Yum soup laced with all sorts of fresh herbs and chillies and made richer with several eggs, this is one supper worth having. So good! They also packed the ingredients separately so by the time our Line Man brought it, nothing was soggy and the roast pork was still crunchy.

Came back here for their popular Mama noodles hotpot which only starts at 11pm. Thought I’d be a typical Singaporean by bringing out my kiasu spirit by reaching at 1030pm but Guess what, there was already a queue. Sitting outdoors, the dish was very comforting in the cooling weather, served in an out of shape, dented metal pot that has probably served plenty of happy customers before me. The dish is essentially Mama noodles packed with ingredients but there’s something alluring about this dish that makes you want to order it even though it’s something you can easily whip up at home. I ordered the seafood bowl and was delighted to see the generous amount of seafood pile on top of the noodles when it finally arrived. Definitely recommending this restaurant to all my friends who are heading over to Thailand 👍🏼

The minced pork dish on the other hand was a little underwhelming and we left half of it untouched. 🙁

Tofu fried to a crispy golden brown on the outside, the interior was silky soft and the herbs that accompanied the dish make it a delight to have.

Recommended by my friend, this is by far one of the best local restaurants I’ve tried till date. Jeh o Chula serves up really good dishes, no wonder it’s such a hit among the locals and I’m surprised tourists has yet to flock here. Beware though, the menu here is in Thai, with limited English words so pointing at pictures is your only way of communication. One of their signature dish here has got to be their Spicy Salmon Sashimi (not the actual name cause I can’t read Thai but you get the gist), seeing that almost every table ordered it. Drizzled with sauce that’ll make you cry, the basil leaves gave a refreshing twist to this shockingly spicy dish.

It was worth it to wait 45 mins at 12.30am by the roadside to eat a pot of mama tom yum maggie mee!!! We ordered a seafood pot for 2 (SGD6) and got a generous amount of noodles and ingredients good for 3. I'm not much of a spicy eater but the tom yum soup base was so fragrant and tangy, I beared with the spiciness tho my lips were swollen towards the end 😂 Great variety in their menu but by 1am most of the seafood dishes were sold out (eg. clams, cockles). Give it a try if you're up for a good heat in your tummy while in BKK!
