food and drinks were extraordinarily mediocre, but the long service time added to the overall frustrating experience. they're closing at the end of june due to manpower issues, which is apparent in their long wait time (30min for each item). in conclusion, not a store i would recommend.
The ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ($๐๐) came in a hUge portion, were vvv crispy & drizzled with the most amazing truffle mayo๐ฎโ๐จ๐๐ผ๐ค
I got all the froyo flavours HAHA and my fav is LYCHEE ROSE!! but had to eat fast coz kinda disgusting when it all melts tgt
Tried the mochi waffles previously and really enjoyed it - they put rice flour (I think) in their batter so it gives the waffle this nice stretchy chew, with a crisp exterior. However, it wasnโt particularly impressive this time as the exterior was crisp only at the very edges. But the chewiness was still enjoyable. You get to choose the froyo flavour, we chose peach mango, my fav sogurt flavour hands down! Itโs not tooo artificial tasting, with a nice sour yogurt flavour that is v refreshing.
The toppings were supposed to be sesame brittle and sesame puff sticks w lotus crumble and speculoos drizzle, but we got fresh strawbs & bananas (yay!) and Oreo crumble (nay) instead - while I like the fresh fruit, it was a little disappointing that we didnโt get to try the sesame toppings + they didnโt even let us know that they will be replacing the toppings.
pls the drinks were so disappointing just donโt get. matcha is just sweetened matcha powder with milk i think bc thatโs what it tastes like when i do it at home. chocolate was okay just standard
worth with burpple one for one but q overpriced without. the katsu chicken was pretty good though but the meat to batter ration could be batter. ha ha
The last I sat down for cake and conversations was in May - and I will patiently wait for the next chance to when the COVID situation get better.
For now my home bakes shall suffice.
look really good but was quite disappointed with the food :-( the mentaiko didnโt taste like mentaiko at all the the salmon was fully cooked, minced and mixed with sauces, topped with cheese then blowtorched. was actually look long forward to the mentaiko taste and aburi texture, but was met with something completely different. in addition, the cheese was flamed way too much that the torched taste was overpowering.. sobs :โ-(
the sparkling citrus also has an after taste that resembles stevia of which i deem as uncomfortable.
however, the cafe ambience was not too bad, quite friendly an environment for a friend catch up! :-)
will not be giving an overall rating

Pardon the half empty bowl of tattle tots! Highly addictive and a good side to share. The portion was generous as well - had to da bao back as we couldn't finish. The service staff was v friendly and did not charge for the extra packaging!
Had high hopes for this salmon grain bowl but was slightly disappointed by the quality of salmon & mentaiko sauce used - sauce was v mayonnaise-sy. That said, if you're not a fussy eater you can still give it a try. Comes with quite a generous portion of ingredients.
tamago sando: delicious and soft, substantial portions - great vegetarian option
matcha lemonade: not a fan, tastes weird
Food is not bad, but probably only worth with Burpple 1-for-1!
Pork Belly Miso:
The ramen crisps in the Pork Belly Miso was a bit weird as it was just Mamee crackers..Taste of pork belly was not bad. Pork was well marinated and flavourful.
Aburi Mentaiko Salmon:
Tasty and flavourful. The salmon pieces could be larger for its original price of $16!
Ice Matcha Latte & Ice Latte:
Both were not bad!
using burpple 1-for-1 we got two grain bowls and two drinks for $26 which we felt was a steal. the grain bowl was very filing and we had a lot of options to choose from. the selection for the drinks was also pretty vast.
would return back to try their dessert selections!
2 pieces of mochi waffles that is lightly crisp outside, chewy & soft inside; taste quite special; with fresh banana & strawberries on top; soft serve ice cream is very sweet, taste light with mild cinnamon flavor; would be better if there's option for flavor; with loads of crispy biscuit crumbs..
Pork cutlet on top of Japanese rice; thick cut of pork loin that is tender & succulent; taste quite bland itself; batter is thin; drizzled with katsu sauce & egg mayo which would be better if it comes at the side instead of over the rice as the batter gets soggy & felt jelat halfway; rice is soft & chewy; with a soft boiled egg, no oozing yolk..
Several pieces of fried chicken simmered in onion & egg sauce sat on top of Japanese rice; meat is tender; whole bowl taste decent, nothing special..
Mixed cheese & pickles sandwiched between 2 thin sourdough toast; toast is very crispy outside & soft between; love the oozing thick melted cheese blend; cheese taste not overwhelming; with mildly sweet pickles that add crunch & reduce the jelatness from cheese; came with garden salad + balsamic at the side..
[ Cafรฉ Food Review โ slow, small portions + lacklustre service ] Iโm just going to open off by saying I donโt get the hype with Kara Cafรฉ & Dessert Bar. Some background: C^2 and I have been wanting night cafรฉ food in BKT for a while, and since the reviews for Kara looked fine, why not try it?
First visit: This was more a supper since we ate prior. Our goal was to try their Okonomiyaki Tater Tots after @lausybren recommended it (thank you!!), so we checked that it was available, ordered, and got a seat. After we paid and were mid-drink, we were told the tater tots were sold out. Mind you, no one else ordered it nor did we see it served. After the refund, we were stuck with drinks when we couldโve gone home instead. Great.
Next visit: This time, C^2 and I decided to pop by during dinner time instead. She placed the order for it first to be safe before we looked for mains. Many of their mains were sold out, so we got their Pork Belly Miso (apparently a signature) + Tempura Fish Kimchi. Alas, 15-20 mins later we were informed again that the tempura was sold out. Cue needing to pick another bowl and pay $2 more for something I didnโt particularly want (their katsu).
Hereโs the only silver lining of the night: The tater tots were great!! /chef kiss/ (Did have to wait 30mins for it tho.) Despite being covered in sauce and mayo, the potato bites were still crispy, and the spring onions and furikake garnishing made the dish a lot more and staved away impending saturation.
The rest of our mains, not so much. My goodness, the portion sizes were dismal. While we did get a slab of pork belly, it was fattier than Iโd expected, lying next to a strange inclusion of fried instant noodle bits, and flanked by a sad mess of onions and some edamame. At least the mix wasnโt bad.
If I thought the belly was bad, wait until you see their katsu. Not only did we have to wait nearly an hour for it (they told us 20mins more 30mins in), when it arrived, we were given h a l f a piece of katsu that I couldโve eaten in a bite or two. An hour. For that. Better yet, the entire dish was dull, plain and bland. Took a few bites, and we were done with it.
Nope, never visiting again.
