More Reviews of good food at Lai Huat Seafood Restaurant

The online reviews for this was “delicious seafood in a no-frills coffee shop” and “very shiok sambal pomfret”. That was probably true years ago for Gobbler.

Revisiting this in recent times and trying out their speciality sambal balachan fish was quite a disappointment for us. The fish meat was tender but it was just overkill with the oil and balachan, leaving it with a cloying aftertaste .

It wasn’t worth our calories 😔

Not sure what to order and this was recommended by them as one of their special delicacy. This deep fried fish is extra crispy/crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Topped and buried with a generous amount of fragrant and spicy dried sambal which perfect with a bowl of rice 》$35

These balls are indeed bombs! Pop the golden deep fried ball into your mouth and be surprised with the cold durian lava bursting in your mouth. Only fried upon order, be careful not to rush and burn your tongue!

Always have a weak spot for yam and of course this got me going hyped up. Definitely not cheap but I can't complain for its generous topping of cashew nuts and yams covered with thin crispy skin. Would have this again anytime!

What a spread we had! Thank you @Burpple for the awesome dinner and keeping us well fed as always~

My favourite on our table was their signature Hae Zor (Prawn roll). Much like ngoh hiang but with the added fragrance of prawn paste, Lai Huat's rendition was two-thumbs up. Served hot and crispy with a side of sweet sauce, the yummy fried parcels were very well-executed. Not too greasy and the crispy skin was too good to pass up.

Thank you @burpple for feeding us last night with a very shiok sambal balachan fish (and special mentions to the crispy tofu and haezor) 🤗

Check out all the hands in action trying to shift things ard to get the perfect shot! 🍴
My favouritest part of dinner was the company. ☺️🕵🏻🕵🏻‍♀️😉

On a side note, the sambal belachan fried fish was pretty tasty though the meat was a bit on the dry side. Their deep fried tofu was pretty good! Like tofu w a touch of fish. 😋 Tried lala for the first time w my fellow noobie @iamkennethlee 😂 and realised we didn't miss out much in life.

The home-made prawn rolls are a must order. Fried to perfection, the outside crispy and the inside soft, juicy and full of flavor. You MUST try!

Lai Huat never disappoints with their dishes. Everything is always well cooked and service is fast and efficient. Food is super yums too! At $8, it's a bargain.

Fried to crispy. It's not bad but too oily for my liking. Probably a one-time experience for me.

Fans of Sambal Fish will have to try Lai Huat Seafood Restaurant. It first opened in Lavender in 1990 before moving to Tyrwhitt Road and now, Horne Road. Here's a photo of Sambal Belachan Pomfret. Read more: http://www.misstamchiak.com/lai-huat-seafood-restaurant-very-shiok-sambal-pomfret/

This place served pretty good food, I must say. Their famous Sambal Belachan Fish (Pomfret or Snapper) came with addictive kick on top of golden deep-fried fish. I could totally understand why that dish was the must-order from this restaurant. Another highlight was their Blackpepper Crayfish, which was stir-fried simply with salt and pepper. My favourites, however, were the Yam Ring (bias alert!) and the Prawn Roll that was really fragrant and flavourful. Can't wait for another feast like this!

If so, you should be very familiar with their infamous sambal chilli fried fish. One that every table there would be seen with a plate each. "During this period, the prices of fish have gone up tremendously," hinted their staff. Alternatives to still enjoying their sambal were the crayfish or prawns. So we opted for these sambal prawns instead. And wow, they were amazing. The key was that fried sambal chilli with some dried shrimp texture that tasted so wonderful that I could even just eat it with plain rice. Loved that it was so fragrant yet non-oily. The prawns were fresh and good but we would definitely return for the sambal fish next time.
But a good meal there was not just about this. Do also try their prawn rolls and chilli lala as they were as delicious. An old and humble shop that delivers outstanding tastes. #burpple #burpplesg #foodgasm #foodpornsg #sgfood #sgfood #sgfoodies #sgfoodporn #sgmakandiary #foodpics #foodlover #foodstagram #foodstagram #foodie #instafood_sg #instagramsg #instasg #whati8today #nomnomnom #instafoodsg #eatoutsg #foodforfoodies #NomNomSG #sgmakandiary #SGhawker #sgfoodlover #sgigfoodies #instafood_sg #stfoodtrending #hawkerfood #jiaklocal #burpproved #sambal
