Always On The Hunt For Breaky
This did not turn out like anything I'd expected. But I am not complaining!
The scrambled egg (I asked for the yolk to be included because by right, this is made with only egg white) was a small, neat, slightly-flattened ball of moist fluffiness. It came surrounded by a lush "forest" of sprightly kale, sweet potato leaves, crisp sweet pea, crunchy asparagus and broccoli. The kicker though was the finely-shaved Parmesan and lemon zest crumbs. Those, along with the add-on of grilled "chilli" chicken, really upped the feistiness of the entire dish.
This is a common man full breakfast, not a common man portion and it keeps a common man full! The portion is huge, which partly explains the price tag.
Portobello Mushroom. Home made chrorizo baked bean is sooo nice with a slight crunch. Bacon. Pork Sausage. Vegetable rosti which i thought it tasted like coleslaw with mint sour cream. Two eggs in any style, i had scrambled eggs on toast. And, confit herb tomato! Such a big plate i can't decide where to start. It is sooo bad that every item on the plate tasted so good too!
Will be back to try different item on the menu. And, no doubt even if it's just for a good cup of coffee.
Known for having very good eggs ben/royale, Choupinette is a cozy French restaurant tucked in Bukit Timah. It is hard to get eggs ben right, as simple a dish as it seems, but they always nail it here. The hollandaise sauce is perfectly executed and it's safe to say that you'll definitely get some of that #yolkporn you're dying to capture. Brunch here usually comes in sets, which includes coffee/tea and juice. Finish off with a slice of pear tart topped with ice cream, or the millefeuille framboise. If you can't get enough, get some viennoiserie, brioche, or chouchous to go! Prices here are steep ($25+ for Eggs Ben, $26+ for Eggs Royale), so be prepared.
Ordered: Spanish Hash ($24.00), English ($25.00), European ($20.00) & Candied Bacon ($6.00). Spanish Hash & Candied Bacon is really recommended. Spanish Hash is a mix of beef and potato and its super addictive. Every time I dine in at Wild Honey's, I would order Spanish Hash without fail. Candied Bacon has a savoury and sweet flavour. Definitely not those common salty bacon we eat out there. A little pricey but the portion is huge and the taste is worth the value. Dine in for a birthday meal or a little treat to yourself! You will not regret it. I'm loving the food there so much! Will dine in again when the hole in my pocket is sewn. Try it soon if you haven't!
Fresh juicy prawns hiding beneath the 2 perfectly poached eggs, a generous drizzle of salted egg yolk, with kale atop of steamed buns, which are a little sweet, just to complete that sweet-savory combination.
I love salted egg yolk anything, and this is the best rendition of it yet.
A value for money set lunch promo for $13+ that's no longer available, much to my dismay. It can be hard to find a quiche that's not stodgy and stale, thankfully ABC's is buttery light and flaky. The tomato soup is hearty and packs real depth of flavor, the bread fresh and warm, and the rocket salad with it's biting balsamic vinaigrette a refreshing palate cleanser.
Most tuna sandwiches tend to go a bit overboard with the mayo in the tuna filling. It's like they are trying their best to cover up all evidence of it ("nope, no tuna in here"). The one I had at Artisan Boulangerie & Co. is different. Yes, there is a little mayo mixed in but there's also a touch of lemon to give the tuna a fresh lift. They use the "challah", a soft, slightly sweet and savoury braided bread to make their sandwich, and add garnishes of sprouts, tomatoes and lettuce. It was a nice change from my usual corned beef sandwich.
Specially dropped by Lola's Cafe since it is so near my place just to try their Avocado Eggs Benedict.
The poached egg was beautifully done in terms of the texture and the way the yolk flowed out was picturesque. The tastefully buttery Hollandaise sauce was slightly tart and went hand in hand with the creamy and rich avocado hiding underneath the 2 eggs.
The avocado was thankfully rich but not cloying. The brioche toasts, acting as the pedestals for the 2 eggs, was fluffy and soft. Overall this dish was delicious and would warrant a revisit anyday :)
Ignoring the copious amounts of butter that went into this dish, this was a winner to me. The croissant was light and fluffy inside while remaining crispy and flaky outside. The scrambled eggs were really well done. They were moist and soft, and had a really creamy texture. As if it wasn't rich enough, a slice of ham and bacon is tucked and hidden inside. This is brunch done well, and I can see why this is one of their more popular brunch items. The salad tasted pretty slimy though, like it had been left outside for long and was left to stew in its dressing for a while.
This place doesn't need our recommendation, what with its history, and enthusiastic word of mouth doing it for them. There's no better place to head down in your shorts and slippers with a few good friends and have a comforting breakfast of kaya toast (extra butter, pls) and kopi siu dai. The toast here comes in the form of traditional buns that are served open-faced, smeared with kaya and topped with a small pat of cold butter. Sometimes nothing beats tradition.
I love the berry butter that went so well with my bread. And the mushrooms and hash brown was yummy. The scrambled eggs were perfect, slightly runny, wet yet firm all at the same time. The service there was superb as well, the lady server was pleasant and prompt, it really made today's bunch such an enjoyable one ;)
.
Omg their lunch menu is amazing as well, we've got the Pink Shrimp Croissant ($21++) + $4 to change our fries to TRUFFLE FRIES! The croissant was so well toasted with shrimp, fish roe and scrambled eggs! And also the Roast Chicken Thigh ($24++) that was oh so tender! Hehe!
.
You know how good their truffle fries are when my mum couldn't stop stuffing her face with them! We will be back for MORE! 😍😍😍
