Checked out the new AM Bakery at The Midtown; being a store that only does takeaway without any dine-in seats, the bakery sells freshly-baked croissants and French Bread as well as entire loaves as well.

Thought I really enjoyed this as a light bite; priced at $2.50, the Pain Au Chocolat is flaky and crisp while it whiffs of a light buttery aroma that is pretty alluring; coupled with the chocolate stuffed in between that's all soft and melted. Pretty well done!

2 blocks of brioche toast topped with custard and a layer of torched caramelised sugar, this french toast also came with a scoop of pistachio ice cream, along with passionfruit, mixed berries and popcorn. Toast is soft and pillowy with a slightly crisp exterior. Coupled with a smooth, luscious and creamy custard spread and a thin layer of crisp caramelised sugar that added a pleasant tinge of sweetness, it would be great if there is some buttery fragrance to the toast which was apparently lacking greatly here. The assorted berries and passionfruit added a tangy, sour note which served as a great counterbalance to the sweetness. On the other hand , the Pistachio ice cream was smooth, creamy and nutty. Not a fan of pistachio though, hence I would personally prefer if standard flavours of ice cream are served instead, or perhaps MATCHA if possible 🤭 .

Authentic Italian Pizza's baked within a brick wood-fired oven to form that slightly charred base of the crust that imparts extra flavour. This is the classic Margherita: tomato sauce, mozzarella, pecorino cheeses and fried basil. If you prefer a meatier dough (and not thin crust - just for ease of comparison, these are slightly thicker than those from Mozza), definitely worth checking out if you're in the area! #FTrecommends

LUKA’s strong suit is definitely their pizzas. This pizza almost one of my favourite pizzas of this combination. The buffalo mozzarella was creamy and tied it all in perfectly. The crust is also very amazing- more on the thicker side, like a slightly fluffy but charred bread. Admittedly, the crust totally won me over.

Do note! They have really affordable lunch sets here :)

May not look like much, also oddly shaped cos I bought it home, but this I absolutely loved, a strong contestant against magic shroom as my favorite burger. Can’t go wrong with the good ol juicy beef patty and their secret umami sauce which I have no idea what it is but all I know is it’s damn shiok and I happily wolfed my half of the burger down. 😋

And finally got to try the nut butter and honey toast (they ran out by the time I was there the last time). I think it's new my favorite toast! I must also tell you about the wonderful crust and the amazing bread - you really need to try it to believe it. A great Sunday made better! #burpple

Taking over the former space of The Orange Thimble at Eng Hoon Street is Merci Marcel, a new French cafe that serves up a brunch menu currently with salads, egg dishes and a section dedicated to more filling mains as well as sweets and grains.

Ravioles de Royan are essentially French dumpling pasta that comes with Tête de Moine Cheese filled within — first taste into the dish and I am pleasantly surprised by the harmonious combination of textures and flavour that goes into the entire dish. While there was use of cream in this dish, I am really amazed how the entire combination of cheese and cream was simply not too heavy on the palate here — the proportion of cheese within the pasta creates just enough bite and savouriness while the olive oil helped to counter the heaviness of the cream for a flavour that simply keeps one going on for the entire bowl. The pasta was also done al-dente; not too tough nor brittle — the texture simply on point. An absolutely beautiful dish that achieves a good balance of texture and flavours — really sold, considering how on point the entire dish was at $18.

To me, this is the best Butter Chicken Masala that I have had, even compared to the ones I had in Dubai. There is a smokiness to the 'merah' sauce, which is even more apparent in the chicken tikka, that makes the dish super delectable. This dish goes best with a piece of Naan, and I find that this pairing of Naan + Butter Chicken here at Al Azhar is the best I've tasted.

Loved the contrasting textures of tender meat which had a firm bite to it, and the sambal on the side added a punchy kick to it 👊🏼 #burpple

Can you believe that my first ever visit to "The Populus Coffee & Food Co." only took place earlier this week? Unlike how it is on weekends, the cafe was not crowded at all when I strolled in at 10am on a Tuesday.
Deciding what to have was tough as I was tempted by quite a number of items on their menu. Eventually, it was "The Populus Scramble" that won.
I have to say, this signature dish deserves its popularity and must-try status. The scrambled eggs, executed to slightly runny creaminess, was chockfull of marinated feta cheese, fresh herbs and even a few small slices of red chilli. It's served attractively piled on a large, very crispy, buttery croissant and topped with a few slices of bacon.
In terms of portion, "hearty" would be the word I'd use. The fact is, I struggled to finish all of it.

You'd be surprised by how many times I've been disappointed by this seemingly simple dish at other restaurants, but the one here was really good! Crispy shoestring fries (that retained its crisp even at the very end) came wonderfully flavoured with the distinctive truffle flavour, and topped off with a generous heap of parmesan shavings. At that price, the value is unbeatable, and we never fail to order this as a starter whenever we come.

Good food turns me into an instant evangelist!
