More Reviews of good food at Waker Chicken (Toa Payoh)

β€’ Fried chicken:
We had the plain, honey soy and spicy versions and my fav was defo the spicy one! It was reminiscent of the yangnyeom chicken I had in Korea albeit a bit less crisp on the exterior. The portion was also relatively generous and quite worth it! :)

β€’ Jajangmyeon:
This looked really good but I was disappointed that it wasn’t up to standard as it lacked that smoky black bean flavour and was pretty one dimensional. Hence, eating this became really jelat. The meat in the sauce was also too finely minced and didn’t provide a textural contrast to the noodles :,(

Overall a 7/10 and I think going for the fried chicken would be the best

These 7 pieces really do make up a half chicken as I identified the breast, drumstick, wing, etc. The honey butter powder paired wonderfully with the crispy chicken skin/batter (honestly couldn't tell for some pieces). But eating too much definitely gave me a sore throat the day after so I would recommend some restraint and ordering perhaps the 4 piece set instead....

Also, the waiting time is quite long so do factor that in when making plans to try this!

Yums crispy Korean Fried Chicken in Toa Payoh! Easily one of the better korean fried chicken in Singapore! Its tended by a Korean (authentic!). Tried their Soy this time round. Compared to the other places, the soy sauce is very liquidy but soaks into the chicken nicely. The honey butter was nice too as I recall.

4 pieces each of chicken tenders. The chicken was presented in its own little basket and cut into bite size pieces. The meat used was breast meat. It's rather moist and we'll seasoned. The batter used was pretty light and goes well with the condiments provided.

The honey butter powder.. That's like crack. You just want it to br sprinkled on everything. It's a little sweet and has that umami flavour to it.

Coffeeshop setting, so don't expect too much. Service took some time because it was the dinner rush. But the food didn't feel rushed at all. They took their time to do it right.

thin and crisp skin, encompassing tender and juicy flesh 🀀 this honestly surpasses all standards of fried chicken! love how it’s so flavourful, yet not oily (idek how) + they r generous in portion too. $13 for half a chicken is rly affordable! wld defo come back to try the honey butter one the next time

Saw a Long queue at this stall compared to others and decide to give it a try. Famed for their Korean fried chicken, we opt to their healthy alternative a classic Korean dish "Chicken Bibimbap"$5.50 and very quick that our dish arrived. πŸ‘

Crunchy radish, carrot, bean sprouts, peppered chicken are served along with a fried egg. Hidden underneath is a warm rice with their spicy sauce. Super yum & definitely be right back soon!😎

[8 pcs for $11] was more than enough to feed the 2 of us. The chicken is really super tender! Sauce was also gooood. However the crispy coating will turn soft if you leave it soaked in the sauce for too long. Will be back to try their other dishes!

On a side note, we also ordered the seafood pancake which was SUPER oily. Not recommended.

So great to have KFC in a coffee shop! The chicken was so crispy and juicy, and not oily at all. They were quite generous with their honey butter powder, which surprisingly went really well with the fried chicken. The other flavours (spicy and soy) weren’t that great - the sauce was a little too wet for my liking and taste-wise, not as interesting as the honey butter. Quite cheap for KFC and definitely worth the price!

Honey butter chicken comes in normal chicken parts or tenders. The chicken is really crispy, juicy and tender and sprinkled with generous amount of honey butter powder ($12) It's realllyyyy good! The chicken served are always piping hot and crispy, which is definitely a plus. Kimchi pancake ($8.50) is not bad, worth the try if you're a kimchi pancake lover. And the army stew ($13.90 for 2-3pax) is not too bad as well. I would say the highlight here is definitely the chicken. πŸ‘πŸ»oh and mozerella cheese sticks are going for $5 for 4 pcs, which is pretty tasty as well. (How wrong can cheese sticks go?)

Korean Fried Chicken - expect extremely tender and juicy meat under a thin crisp skin, sprinkled with honey butter powder.

Army Stew($6.50 ). There's instant noodles, sausages, luncheon meat, cabbages, onion, etc inside this small pot of army stew. This comes with 🍚 and kimchi~ omg I love it! I also never came across any Korean store that has mini army stew. The store feels quite authentic to me with real Koreans cooking.

From Man's Kitchen & Waker Chicken; a coffeeshop stall at Blk 125 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh within Johnson Foodcourt that serves up Korean fare.

It wasn't the original plan for lunch, but we headed here instead for the spot we intended to dine at didn't open and the fried chicken menu from Waker Chicken is only available for dinner. Not sure if I had tried a bad one but I don't seem to get why people like Sundubu with this one β€” it's almost like a kimchi soup base that's terribly bland and watered down filled with smooth and silken tofu, minced pork and an extremely messy looking, totally cooked egg; the elements just seemed like they are running their own show against one another; almost not related to one another. I am just guessing Sundubu just ain't my thing.

Korean Fried Chicken -- the new KFC that is more finger lickin' good than Colonel Sanders' version from Kentucky.

Say no more to limp oily chicken skin because this double-fried will remain extra crispy and less oily even though you leave it sitting in a box for some time.

At Waker, you get a whole chicken for $28 a and half for $16. Most people prefer the sweet and spicy version but Waker's original chicken is as good and if not better with their honey mustard or miso mayonnaise sauces.

Get outta way Colonel Sanders. Korean Fried Chicken is set to conquer the world.

Korean ramyeon $6.50 a bowl.
Inside included few sliced rice cakes, tender chicken meat, slightly spicy soup and sliced vegetables.
Comforting! Mmmm... Mashisoyo!

Shiok when hot despite my contempt towards breast meat.

maybe next time i should just be smart and order the flavoured ones like every other table did - the Honey Butter, Sweet & Spicy or Soy ones. this is $13 for half a chicken (additional $1 for flavored ones) but i might just put my moolah back into KFC instead if i’m disappointed again 🀭
