More Reviews of good food at On Lok Yun

Housed in an old-school coffee shop, it has that rustic nostalgic feel the moment you step foot into the shop. Their menu is kept relatively simple with the toasted bread with homemade coconut jam kaya dip and the breakfast for champions that comes with eggs, ham, sausages and bacon. I am not sure if this is an authentic Thai breakfast because the breakfast plates seems more western to me and even after coming here a few times, I still don’t get the hype about it. To me, it is just comfort morning food that I would crave once in awhile but will not for every single holiday trip.

Please give me while you guys are slacking off at work/school, heading over to Taipei for an impromptu trip next Monday. Where should I eat!

Picture of the toast at On Lok Yun, where I thought it was rather... underwhelming? Very nice meh? Give me better recommendations for Taipei leh!

An Classic traditional local breakfast located near Chinatown opens daily from 5.30am to 4.00pm.

A must try breakfast spot if you are in bkk. Its quite out of the way but the visit is well worth it. The breakfast style is a mixture of thai chinese & western.

Tastes a lot like our Kaya toast!! Which is why I love it but I still prefer yakun's crunchy toast more hehe

I had a Thai style American breakfast with Bread with Butter and Sugar [23 THB] and Egg Custard Bread (Kaya) [28 THB], accompanied with Cold Milk Tea [25 THB] in a conventional surrounding.

P.S. Uber or Grab can be a great alternative to taxi and it has been my mode of transport during this trip. We didn't have much issue getting around places besides the Bangkok jam.

My picks are the sunny-side up eggs with bacon, ham, sausage & lap cheong, egg custard (kaya) bread, and butter & sugar bread. Overall I found the traditional food served at this 80-year-old coffee shop greasy, which made it a tad heavy for breakfast. I say go for the coffee since the watered-down milk tea was one of the worst I've had.

The softest, cottony pieces of steamed white bread that ever lived, whose God-intended purpose I rightfully fulfilled – that is, to smother them in a rich puddle of impossibly smooth, velvety kaya and evaporated milk, and have them dissolve near effortlessly in my mouth; minimal teeth assistance required.

Every bit as good as I'd anticipated. So good, in fact, that I just had to order up a second round.

Soft pillowy steamed white bread dipped in a pandan coconut jam with evaporated milk. The one item that brings lots of tourist to On Lok Yun, and I can understand why after trying it.

Fluffy bread smeared with salty butter and sugar with a slight crisp on the sides. Not too bad, but their signature bread with kaya is way better!

2 sunny side up, bacon, ham & sausages (75B) as a breakfast platter at On Lok Yun. There's something about the simplicity on this plate that brings you back in time in the old fashioned coffee shop. We added some ketchup to go with it and it was surprisingly good!

A sumptuous breakfast spread on the table which cost SGD8 in total!

I'm glad that we met a few Thai people who were so helpful, not only did they direct us, they walked us here. At least the food here made the journey worthwhile.

Breakfast for champions at On Luk Yun. This place exudes the nostalgia feel, similar to our Chin Mee Chin.

☺️ My favourite at this nostalgic cafe wasn't the French toast and steam bread that everyone is talking about. I prefer this butter & sugar toast.☺️ .
Hop over to my dayre (@lirongs) for more food places that I've went in BKK.😊 #bkkfood #suntantravels

Their homemade kaya was infused with strong pandan and coconut flavour, freshly made without any artificial preservatives!
Dip the soft bread with the creamy and rich kaya for a perfect triumvirate of flavors.
Classic food, simply good.

We had 4 kinds of bread and 2 cha yen for 2 pax at a total of 190 baht. (S$7.20) It reminds me of our very own Chin Mee Chin, as old as it can get. Mad love the fluffy bread while dipping in into a pool of condensed milk / egg custard (kaya). 😍 #onlokyun

here in thailand, breads used are cubed, fluffy and not toasted. kaya comes separately and you dip a piece first in the soft boiled eggs, then with the kaya. instead if a crunch.
that's why I love exploring and traveling to other countries

similar to chin me chin back in singapore, but far more nostalgic and breakfast that is far better than I would have imagined.
their kaya - differs texture wise, taste wise and serving plating.
that bread - so soft and fluffy something you wouldn't find back at home.
the milk tea - I guess I'm just a fan of thai ice milk tea 😂😂
