More Reviews of good food at Serangoon Garden Market

When we talk about hawker food at serangoon gardens, stalls from the chomp chomp food centre will normally come into the picture. However, there is a gem in the lesser known Serangoon Garden Food Centre that you should know about!

This Mee Goreng ($5.50) here is really worth mentioning. With 3 rather large juicy prawns and several squid slices, the Mee Goreng was fried so well, as the noodles were al dente, not starchy and definitely did not have the alkaline taste. It was not overly oily, but yet still flavourful. The acidity from the lime helps to cut the oiliness further and before I know it, I cleaned up the plate!

A very well balanced Mee Goreng. This may be the best rendition I've had so far.

Decent and average chicken and pork satay that wasย lackingย the strong charred and smoky flavours. The marinate leans towards the sweet side and the pork satay was a little tough. Served with peanut sauce added with pineapple puree. Itโ€™s not that bad but given the choices across the road, there are just much better stalls over there ใ€‹$0.70 Each

๐Ÿ“Katong Satay Supply

Apparently a hidden gem here, read a few reviews that this was the better carrot cake in serangoon garden.

And those reviews were spot on, its really a delicious plate of carrot cake.

$3 only, must try here if u still hungry after lunch.

Gotten the black version, which cooked perfectly and taste good together with the fried egg. $3

So far we hadnโ€™t seen a stall that sells this combination, but we were told from our friends that this is one of the stalls they will definitely visit whenever they comes here. Greeted with a long queue just like the other famous stalls, we decided to join the queue to order the recommended black carrot cake. Itโ€™s very affordable, comes in different pricing of $3, $4, $5. We ordered the $4 and portion is huge! The cake has a soft texture, fried generously with lots of eggs and Chye poh. The most ingredient for Black carrot cake is the black sauce and the black sauce nail it right, itโ€™s sweet enough and flavourful, yet not too sweet for our liking! Every bite is so full of flavours! This will definitely get you hooked to it if you enjoyed sweet black carrot cake, just like us! โ €

This also came in a pack of 2 so one bun is $1. Again, the filling was too little so it was a disappointment :( kaya was good tho!

Bought this from the Serangoon Garden Bakery & Confectionery. They sell this in a pack of 2, so one pack is $2! Bread is nice & fluffy, but we were abit disappointed bc the filling was just too little. Not as good as some of the other bakeries out there which is a shame bc prior to buying this, we read the reviews & most of the reviews were pretty good ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

No need for any fancy sourdough or $20.80 red wine longan bread. Just give me some freshly baked old school buns from this humble bakery at Serangoon Garden Market for about $1.10 each.

Serangoon Garden Bakery & Confectionery (01-45) is a crowd favourite and it opens from 7.30am till about 1pm each day or till it sells out. The buns are so soft and fluffy and the filling is generous. Some of the flavours available include red bean, yam, curry, ham and cheese, sausage, coconut and luncheon meat. They also sell cream puffs and banana cakes but it was sold out when I visited the stall.

Managed to grab my hand on a few of their buns and it seems like every item is popular. I was very impressed and it certainly lived up to its hype. Simplicity at its finest.

$10.50 for 2 pax - peanuts ๐Ÿฅœ ๅ’ธ่œ, tau kwa, fishcake, tau pok and ๅคง่‚

The kway chap is as thin as tissue paper! Super smooth. No wonder most people ordered the big bowls, Iโ€™ll do that next time too. The ๅคง่‚  are very clean and cooked to perfection. Other ingredients are up to standard too. Worth my time queuing ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Fave dish which I eat once per week. Stall 19 at Serangoon Garden Market, their version has medium chunky cubes of soft moist daikon radish cake, with a balanced ratio of fluffy eggs.
.
The white has a slight crisp savoury edge, while the black has a pronounced fragrant sweet note.

Min Chiang Kueh ้ข็…Ž็ฒฟ is essentially a Peanut Pancake that all Singaporeans grew up eating, and weโ€™re glad we stumbled across pancake king at Serangoon Garden because they do it really well. Itโ€™s crispy on the outside but soft and doughy on the inside. Paired with a handful of peanuts and youโ€™re good to go ๐Ÿคค

They prepare fresh batches several times a day so you should definitely wait for the fresh ones ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Our usual suspects for Kway Chap - tofu, beancurd, meat and eggs! Sounds like a very balanced diet, happy meal at Garden Street Kway Chap!

No prizes for guessing what is the current site of the old Blanco Court today.

Probably have to be of a certain age to know where Blanco Court used to be, and I am happy to find familiar flavours from Garden Street Kway Chap at Serangoon Gardens, a stall which I used to frequent with my mum back in the 90s. One simple bowl of wholesome flavours.

I guess it's difficult to hear him repeating "ๅ†ๆฅ ๅ†ๆฅ"
Sad...... #oldskool #hawker

Can't remember the price, but it should be $1.

I bought a few buns from this stall; the classic luncheon meat bun, hotdog bun, butter bun, orh nee (yam paste) bun and the butter cake.

The luncheon meat/ hotdog/ butter buns were ok. Fresh but I would still consider them average despite their slightly more buttery buns. Nothing exceptional.

The butter cake here is the one to get! It is a smaller-than-average piece of cake, but it is so so so soft that it melts in my mouth the moment I took a bite! Holding the cake left me with oily fingers, but this cake is worth every calorie!

Bengawan Solo cakes are also VERY oily (if you notice, more so than butter cakes elsewhere) but they are nowhere as soft. Not even near!

Their butter cake may not be their bestseller, but it is a must-try!

This orh nee (Yam Paste) bun is one of the best I have tried. The orh nee filling is not the smooth, luscious, creamy type used in Poh Cheu yam (ang) ku kueh.

This orh nee filling is so concentrated that it is almost dense, but yet it is so soft. My first mouthful of the filling gave me a shock! So flavourful... So fragrant.

An amazing orh nee bun!

Stall 46, Serangoon Garden Bakery & Confectionery.

Cream puffs were sold out by then.

I bought the luncheon meat bun for $1. Prices for breads is alright if you don't compare them to breads from Baker Talent where a good range of their breads are priced within the range of ($0.60-$0.90).

Not many places sell the classic luncheon meat bun these days. Even for those bakeries/ confectioneries that do, they use chicken luncheon meat.

Who would have imagined that the once common simple luncheon meat bun would become this difficult to get these days?

This stall was added to my wishlist when I tried to do a search on Google on places/ bakeries that sell luncheon meat buns and this place is one of the rare places that (still) do.

Anyway, the luncheon meat is legit/ good; not some fake chicken luncheon meat. The thickness is good, not sliced overly thin.

The bun has a distinctive buttery aroma and flavour; it tastes more buttery than sweet. I don't find the bread sweet. I wish it was a tad sweet(er).
The bread is fresh/ freshly made, but I don't consider it incredibly fluffy or super soft. Usually, Asian-style breads tend to have a pillowy soft texture due to the butter and sugar added to the dough. I don't mean that the bread is hard; it is just... 'average-ly/ normally' soft.

A pretty good luncheon meat bun, but certainly not the best i have tried.

I personally prefer the slightly sweeter and softer luncheon meat bun from Boon Keng Bread (Stall #01-44) at Upper Boon Keng Market & Food Centre.

No queue.

Unlike Lao Ban douhua with their pudding-like textures, the traditional tau huay from Tan Soon Mui is starkly different.

The traditional version is served with sweet syrup.
This is a bowl of soft, silky, smooth tau huay that melts in my mouth!

Amazingly good!
