Tried @thaipanrestaurant recently and overall had a pretty decent experience! This restaurant is known among VJC students as it used to open nearby and have fed quite a number of batches 😂 most dishes were hits and here are ones I would like to mention:
Thaipan Jade Tofu with Chicken Floss ($14.80) - this unassuming tofu dish turned out to be my favourite! Loved the crispy crust and the soft interior, coupled with the sweet savoury combination provided by the chicken floss and drizzled sauce. Actually pretty addictive!
Hong Kong Fried Noodle ($14.50 for large) - I don't usually like these kind of noodle dish as most places don't do it well but I am happy to report that this rendition is banging! ✨ Savoury flavours were strong and there was a touch of wok hei. Noodles were al dente and there were loads of ingredients within!
Butter Squid ($18) - now this is one of the famous dishes, but it didn't quite sit with me 🫠 the butter sauce was kinda clumpy and I was wondering if they overcooked the milk within. The squid was pretty fresh still though!
Nonetheless, most dishes were delicious and I would come back if I'm around the area.
This is their specialty, it's very worth it if you go on their weekdays (Wednesday Only). This dish will be 50% off.
A must try, this dish has a very unique taste and texture.. If you like butter or creamy texture taste... Definitely a YES.
This sweet and sour pork has the home cook taste. $15 for a meat dish is pretty good pricing for sharing. Can order this to try if you like sweet and sour.
This tofu taste was ok, the sauce taste like "tie pan tofu". $14 for this is a little over price. Great for medium group to share and order more kind of variety choices.
The broccoli was well cooked and very flavourful. But $14 for this portion not really worth it.
My family loves this restaurant and we would go there whenever we are in the east. Highly recommend the butter squid dish, olive fried rice and baby kailan.
Located inside the Mandarin Gardens condo is a tzechar restaurant that sells everything from tom yum soup to cereal chicken.
The olive fried rice basically hit all the right spots. The wokhei flavor permeated the dish and the olive gave it punches of salt and bitterness and added a dimension to the dish. This only comes in one size ($8) and enough to feed 3 people.
What stole the show was the small red mount of minced meat and when mixed with the fried rice changes the whole dish. so so tasty except i wish the meat was cooked fresh on the spot as it didn’t come piping hot and we figured it was already prepared and just scooped onto the plate.
Sambal Kangkong, ThaiPan Fried Rice, Cereal Chicken, Steamed Whole Fish HK Style, Butter Squid, Olive Fried Rice. The food was pretty good and affordable and I loved the view as it was facing the large pool.

Probably one of the best butter squids I've ever tried. Cereal chicken, stir fried French beans and the jing du pork ribs also come highly recommended! It's an experience that can't be missed! (Plus the affordable pricing doesn't hurt too!)

Luckily we got a table immediately because the restaurant was filled up pretty quickly. Prices are really affordable and they have some recommended dishes such as the Cereal Chicken and Steamed Fish Teochew Style. For the Singapore dinner experience, this is one zhi czar place you have to go.
