Different types of katsu available (buffet). Only for the big eaters!

Rosu, hire, ebi, oyster, fish. Part of the buffet. Rosu is fatter than the usual drier hire, therefore better, but jelak faster. I love their oyster katsu.

Simple dish but super comforting. Bite into it and you taste the juiciness of the pork together with the slightly melted cheese, damn shiok. Breaded crust was done just nicely too! Remember to mix with the sauce for the full combo 😋

Overdosed on pork (as usual) on my first ever visit to the Tonkichi outlet at Orchard Central. But unfortunately, it didn't quite "meat" my expectations. Service was very good though.

For a restaurant that specialises in tonkatsu, I must say that it didn't disappoint me at all! The breaded crumbs on the surface was crisp yet not too overpowering. The meat itself was lean and thus makes it a rather healthy meal! However, I would wish for the meat to be more tender and juicier. They provide some dark sauce which complements the meat perfectly, in my opinion. Eat it with the cabbage as well, which provides a refreshing balance after a few mouthfuls of meat!

Deep-fried crispy Tonkatsu infused with creamy hot cheese - what's there not to love? An absolutely delicious combination served with free-flow rice, soup and lettuce 😍

Tonkichi is not your typical Japanese restaurant, specialising in Tonkatsu (deep-fried pork cutlets), which are crispy but not too oily and served with free-flow rice, soup and lettuce!

I had their combo set which consist of deep fried pork loin and pork fillet. Deep fried to golden brown, crispy and not too oily. The texture and doneness of the pork were just right, tender and not tough.

To end a long day.
And gear up for an even longer day tomorrow.
But life is short.
Seize it.

If there is a food glossary on the different forms of “口感” (in-mouth sensations), the “krik krik krik” of the crispy skin here deserves an entry. The meat itself can get taxing if you’re enjoying the whole portion by yourself, but the sesame paste (that you get to grind yourself!) provides sesame brittle-esque support. 3.7/5

Known for their tonkatsu, Tonkichi also offered sashimi, sushi, tempura, ramen which boasts a wide variety of selection here.

Bara Chirashi Set (SGD 25++) - Served with udon and chawanmushi in this set, various sashimi toppings were found nicely diced and toppled onto the rice. We loved the assortment of sashimi on it, just a bit too much rice.

Location: Orchard Central 07-06
Opening hours: 11am - 11pm (Mon-Sun)

Essentially a shabu shabu experience sans the heat and steam, with citrus-tinged, super-soft and highly absorbent 1-ply pork sponges which soak up the refreshing combination of sesame and ponzu sauces perfectly. 4/5

This bara chirashi set cost $29 after service charge and gst. Good ambience, quality food as well.

Have been going to tonkichi at Shaw for years to satisfy my tonkatsu cravings! Never disappoints!

Though tonkichi is popular for its tonkatsu, the chirashi is definitely worth a shot! Good value at $25

One of our favourite comfort foods - Tonkichi's curry hire katsu don. Each filet has a good, balanced amount of fat that adds to the juiciness in each bite.

Their specialties are anything fried, from pork cutlets to oysters. Other dishes are not that worth it.

This is the Mentaiko Kasane Katsu Set. Deep fried layered sliced pork loin sandwiched with mentaiko and specially made bread crumbs are crispy in texture. The meal is complete with rice and miso soup!

Rosu is the regular cut and is the juicer, tastier, but fattier of the two. Hire is the leaner, healthier, and usually more expensive cut. I always prefer the fatty cut though.

A Japanese restaurant that is specialized in Tonkatsu, but also serve a good bowl of Chirashi. This rice bowl of various diced seafood is reasonably priced at ($22).
