The meat was cooked perfect, with a nice crispy char on the outside, with the flesh still tender and perfectly medium rare, as ordered. What really impresses about this restaurant is the quality of the meat served at that price, with is counter-balanced with its self-service. If you’re not one too fussed by service and want to focus on just the meat, this is just the place.

The sandwich here was filled with 3 large eggs, cabbage, tomato, cheese, wasabi mayo and furikake in a dark rye bread. The portion was huge and had a nice toasted crust, with the cabbage adding a crunchy texture complemented by the wasabi mayo. However, what really stood out for this dish was its sheer size, with the furikake adding a sweet and savoury umami bite. This dish is a must try.

The Smoked Popcorn Old Fashioned is a whiskey-based cocktail consists of whiskey stirred popcorn syrup and grapefruit bitters smoked with in house wood chips. The flavour of fresh popcorn comes through as an undertone, with a subtle sweetness, further enhanced by the smoky aroma from the grapefruit butters which has a slight lingering flavour of burnt wood chips. This was one of our favourite drinks, and if not because of its simple yet deep flavour, which was further made fancy by its presentation in a lighted glass dome.

This dish is served with a 4 types of batter which are original, lemon and herb, onion and garlic and chilli lemon, giving you a total of 8 flavours with 4 types of fish. The dish also comes with a side of minty mushy peas, baked beans, coleslaw, mash and garlic butter rice, and not to forget, the fluffiest and crispiest chips you will find around town. Order this dish if you want try a bit of everything that represents this iconic British dish.

Khao Soi is a dish from Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, which is made from egg noodles, deep fried crispy egg noodles and chicken in a milky curry broth. The dish is usually served with a side of pickled mustard greens, shallots, lime and fried chilli oil.

The Khao Soi served had a heap full of noodles, a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg, with a large piece of tender chicken thigh. The meat was flavourful from the long cooking time and made the dish a very hearty dish. The dish was topped with crispy egg noodles giving the dish a nice crunch. For those who are not acquainted with this dish, do give this a try. For the best enhancement of flavours, mix in the side condiments, they really make a difference.

The lamb loin here consists of capsicum pesto, aubergine, compressed cucumber, rosemary burnt butter and onion juice. Century egg (pi dan, 皮蛋) is a traditional Chinese ingredients, where duck eggs are preserved with clay, ash and rice hulls resulting in a translucent egg white and alkaline tasting egg yolk. Chinese dumplings (jiao ji, 饺子) are usually made with a mixture of pork and prawn wrapped in dough.

The dumplings here are particularly interesting as they’re stuffed with chunks of century egg. The result is a dumpling which is rich and flavourful with the sweetness of the prawn and the umami from the century egg. Surprised that there isn’t more of this dish around.

Hainanese chicken rice is a Singaporean and Malaysian colonial dish that was created by the Hainanese community who use to be caretakers of the British colonial era. This dish consists of boiled chicken known as white cut chicken 白切鸡, and is served with a side of dark soy sauce, ginger and chilli sauce.

The rice was flavourful and rich in flavour, with the chicken cooked tender, especially for the lean meat. The pickled vegetables on the side added a nice sweet salty punch. Add a portion of the liver which was cooked perfectly and served warm, while the gizzards are also cooked soft. You can see why this hawker stall earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
