Missing the yummy and fulfilling plate of bebek goreng from Indonesia. The duck, although fried to a crisp, was still tender and juicy. The samba that came along with it was very fragrant and paired wonderfully well with the duck. At about $7.50, this was really value of money!
I’m no coffee connoisseur but I can still appreciate a good cup of coffee! The iced Colombia has a citrusy, lime note with some hints of honey and caramel. Refreshing and great for a hot afternoon day.
The xiaolongbao from Jia Jia Tang Bao in Shanghai is freshly steamed and served to you immediately. The skin is not too thick, while the broth has a strong crab flavour. You would want to have one whole ‘long’ (basket) to yourself!
The peppery Yaowarat thai kway chap is pretty different from what we would think kway chap to be. The soup is peppery and spicy, yet very light and flavourful. Each bowl is topped with crispy pork belly, fish sausage, pork slices and pig stomach - very yummy and goes really well with each bite of the slippery rice noodles. Their pork belly is pretty good, as is their other side dishes like the chicken wings and charred cabbage. Everything is cheap (around the $5 range) and pretty worth it!
The hae mee tng m is chock-full of natural goodness and flavour from the prawns! The broth has no additional sauces or seasoning, and a lot of the flavour comes naturally from the prawns they use to cook the stock. Pricey, but yummy! They offer Japanese somen as an option, but having tried both I think I still prefer the traditional vermicelli

Finally got round to trying The Plain Jane at Serangoon! Their famous Swiss rolls ($5.90/$6.90) come in various interesting flavours and perfect for dessert or afternoon tea. The ispahan has a rose cream and lychee jelly in the middle, and was quite light and refreshing. The matcha was the right balance of bitter and sweet. Both had a really fluffy sponge, and wasn’t too heavy. Really nice place to chill and have a cup of coffee!

Was pleasantly surprised by the hash from Stamping Ground Coffee! The hash was slightly crushed (seems like from a waffle press), making it extra crispy and crunchy. The creamy dressing and tart salsa helped cut through the grease so you don’t feel jelat eating this. Yummy side to share!
The century egg rolls were quite good - the sauce was rich and creamy, but not too overpowering. Similarly, their samurai unagi maki was melt in your mouth and quite well done. However, for the price, which is comparable to places like Koh Sushi at Wisma, the portions were a little small. The meal can get pretty pricey since portions are not big, especially if you order a variety to share.
Super yummy no-frills fried tofu! Contrary to what it’s name suggests, it isn’t too salty and actually has the right amount of savouriness. The outside is wonderfully crispy while the inside has a silky, egg tofu-like texture. Good accompaniment to their wanton mee as a side!
