[MUIS Halal Certified] Had this sometime ago, but I thought it’s worth dedicating one post to it! When TP Tea opened, it seemed like they knew they would drown in the Singapore mainstream food scene if they didn’t have an edge.
Hence, they went above and beyond to make themselves stand out in two ways - by getting the MUIS Halal Certification AND by having bubble tea softserves (with boba) on their menu. They have since cemented themselves as one of the go-tos by the halal abangs and kakaks for bubble tea. Where other types of people are concerned, they also appear to have successfully bagged the foodie crowd who are on the hunt for the newest grubs. 🙋♂️🧕
The Pearl Milk Tea Softserve ($4.60) is unmistakably black milk tea in taste and finds itself in the middle of creamy and icy, texture-wise. If I do remember correctly, the bobas did harden after awhile as it succumbs to the frigid temperature of the softserve. Personally though, I didn’t find it disruptive to the experience. 😋
But well, aside from the occasional brainfreeze this also gave me, this was certainly a new, yet still familiar, way to enjoy the classic Taiwanese treat. I don’t mind going back for it again! (7.4/10)
Veganburg Singapore recently hopped onboard the Impossible train! For any burger that you order, you can opt to swap out the regular patty with Impossible for an extra $5. 🙃💸
For those wondering, the Impossible patty is another meat analogue product made with heme. It hails all the way from California, and it made its way to our shores back in March. It seems unthinkable, but there is absolutely no meat in this, which may be disconcerting to those who were born not eating the stuff and have never known how it tastes like. 🤔
Rest assured though - while it does a solid job at mimicking a beef patty, there are still notable differences in the texture as well as the taste. The one thing that definitely separates it from a beef patty is the absence of the beefy-umami flavour. The fact that it barely misses the mark of perfect imitation though, is undeniably a letdown and may make meat-lovers frown. 😪
In addition, the Smoky BBQ burger (with Impossible Patty) had an overwhelming amount of vegannise…what’s up with that?! More BBQ sauce would’ve been nicer, period. 😩 (6.9/10)
My first brown sugar milk experience at another place a little while ago wasn’t the best, I have to admit. The milk was rather sour and the combination with the earthy, caramel-like taste of the brown sugar was awful.
Thankfully, this brown sugar milk drink from Tiger Sugar helped to change my perception of the stuff. It had a less endearing sweetness compared to the regular black milk tea, but it was more honeyed with a hint of caramel. It was pretty delicious I must admit. Still though, the difference is not significant enough to convert me from a black milk tea squad to brown sugar milk team. 😅
[Pending Halal Certificate, Tasting] If you’re loving the beef lan zhou la mian trend that has been making waves around Singapore AND you live in the West, then you’re truly in luck. Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles has recently opened a new outlet in Jurong Point! 😍
Here were some of the things we had during the tasting:
- Signature Beef Noodles ($8.90, $10.90)
- Sauerkraut (Suan Cai) Beef Noodles ($9.90, $11.90)
- Mala Spicy Beef Noodles ($9.50, $11.50)
- Dry Beef Noodles ($8.90, $10.90)
- Chicken Fillet Noodles ($7.50, $9.50)
Out of all these dishes which are all just as delectable, I am loving the last two the most. I don’t try to hide the fact that I am #TeamDryNoodles more than anything. 😂 Its quality is very redolent to that of a simple, humble meal. It’s kind of like rice with soy sauce and a fried egg – it’s not much, but it is inexplicably delicious and holds its own. The noodles with some chili oil? That’s really all I will ever need.
Other than that, I did really like how supple yet meaty the beef slices were after they’ve been soaked in the soup. That was something that caught me by surprise. 😧
Some things to take note of:
- The spiciness of the dishes are a little toned down
- All soup dishes are not suitable to vegetarians as it is made with beef stock.

Thank you @burpple for the invitation to this Eatup! ❤️
[3/4] I marked this as one of my favourites as the Thai Milk Tea wasn’t heavy/concentrated in flavour. It was surprisingly balanced, which I think is a move to compensate for the doughnut’s sugary exterior. Thankfully, I followed my hunch of getting two of these in my box of 6! 😂
[2/4] This Nutella pun has been done to death, but I guess I can close one eye given the jolt of happiness you can get from one of these. The overflowing Nutella is truly just the tip of the iceberg. Break into one of these to liberate the decadence of the molten, lava-viscous chocolate-hazelnut ganache. 😍😭
[1/4] Four posts about doughnuts incoming! Before that, just wanted to say that I’m super stoked to be selected as a Burpple Tastemaker again. :’) I questioned my interest in writing about food many times in 2018, but I guess you go through peaks and troughs with your interests and that’s okay. 🙏🏽
So anyway, I made my way to Whampoa during my lunch break just to get doughnuts from here. They really make some of the best baked doughnuts I’ve had besides Kakuida.
These plump sugar-laced bombolinis are so soft, and are stuffed pretty generously (albeit not ala Shuu puffs) with filling corresponding to its flavour. It may not look like it from this picture, but truly, looks can be deceiving. Just one bite was enough to send me into a state of bliss, honestly. 😍🙏🏽
On Wednesdays we wear pink, but on Fridays we eat everything pink! (unless it’s raw meat of course 😶)
There isn’t a noticeable difference in the taste of the sakura softserve compared to last year (i.e meek and modest in sweetness and faintly redolent of cherry) which I personally like. I can’t imagine how it’d turn out had the astringency from the floral taste been amped up. 😧
The strawberry calpis soda is the antipode of that however. I swear I scrunched my face a couple of times from how treacle-sweet the syrup was. 😂
I forgot the name of the stall, but let me update it as I have been frequenting it lately. Not too bad, though not the type I’d rave about as it is a pretty average fare. Meek in spicyness and generous amount of chicken and tofu given here, which are definitely THE ways to go. 😍
This is the only chicken and waffles dish that manages to find the right balance between the sweetness and protein-savoury flavour. While the belgian waffles were admittedly tough to the bite, it doesn’t totally impede the quality of the dish - cut it up into a more bite-sized piece and you’re good to go! 😍
[Weekends Special!] The bubble tea craze was one thing I didn’t see coming - it’s come to a point where bake shops are stuffing bubble tea pearls into croissants! 😧
But it’s not too shabby really. Brother Bird’s mochi croissants have an excellent texture to them - the density and the semi-elasticity that each croissant possesses make it super satisfying to bite into. The boba truthfully didn’t serve to amplify it that much, but it is a fun and unique, albeit peculiar, way to get your fix of bubble tea and croissants all in one. 😛 (7.4/10)
Thought I should post this as the details of my experience are still fresh in my head. Plus, I’m quite pumped because I really went all out to
make sure I got my hands on the Impossible™ Patty Melt...even if that meant I had to make my way back to the city from the west side, in time for their dinner service, AFTER failing to get it during lunchtime. 😶
In all honesty, I don’t think all the components in this sandwich meshed excellently. I admit, I was expecting the beefy-umami taste to grace my tastebuds as the cheese, sliced cucumber and sauce all dovetail and create a fiesta. 😋😍 Well, none of that happened.
Instead, what I got was a lot less complex than expected - the plant-based patty had the flavour identical to that of a sausage patty, even though it possessed the succulence of a regular beef patty. I’ve tasted something similar in a particular brand of meatless burger patty…and it’s something you can find at the supermarket. 🤧 But if there’s any striking difference, it’s that it’s a lot drier in comparison to the Impossible™ patty. In summary, I hate to say it, but its lack of newness costed it its sterling first impression. 🙁 Still though, from a more objective standpoint, it was pretty delicious and satiating!
Be informed that this comes at a whopping $2x2, which may be ridiculously expensive for a darn sandwich, but you know…for the sake of trying it once, I suppose I could close one eye. 😴 (7.2/10)
