Value for money find. The meatballs were really fresh, springy and tasty. Will make sure to try the mee tai mak option next time. Highly recommend! 😋

We were looking forward for this to be seasoned for heavy palates (like their other dishes) especially since it features anchovies, but surprisingly it fell flat. It was really hard to ration the sole fillet lolling atop the dome of underseasoned pasta. Hopefully just teething issues!

It was my first time trying their Ebikatsu and despite the battered coating getting a little soggy at the bottom from condensation, it’s still a winner for me. Reason being the part that counts the most, the chopped up prawn within, tasted fresh and sweet and was of a lovely bouncy bite. Adding on gigantic gobs of the accompanying tartare sauce made it even more enjoyable.
I would not hesitate to have this again on the days when I’m not in the mood for pork.

Fowl versus fowl, duck outweighs chicken in terms of flavour anytime. And I learned, when I ate Dapur Penyet’s “Bebek”, it retains that intensity even when it’s deepfried.
The duck here was by no means a juicy thing. In fact, I would describe it as dry and crispy. Some parts were a bit chewy even. However I rather enjoyed it. The spice rub marinade on the duck made it very tasty and frankly, it’s also due to Dapur Penyet’s ferociously spicy sambal chilli. Slap it on anything for immediate shiok-ness.

Recommended by another Burppler. I was craving for Hokkien mee and so I made a cycling trip to the new estate. Got the $6 option and it was huge. Wok hei is there and it was right on starchiness. It is not as flavorful as the famous one in Geylang but this is definitely much better than your regular neighborhood Hokkien mee.

No matter what your pick in regional or preparation style. It’s served here.  A not-so-common variant is the chicken paitan ramen served at Menya Takeichi. Despite it not being the tonkutsu gut-bomb that stays with you longer than a cheese steak from Park Bench Deli, its still one to get.

Made from chicken bones boiled for hours, the broth comes with an aggressive creaminess. The yolk of the simmered egg is gooey and violently orange and the slices of chicken breast are still surprisingly tender. Chilli threads add unnecessary but welcome pizzaz. Be forewarned that the thin noodles soften quickly so get slurping fast.

All reasonably priced, the sets offer a good variety of tofu dishes such as my order of 豆乳おばんざい鍋御膳 Soy Milk Obanzai Nabe Set (1980¥).

Presented with an amazeballs homemade Sesame Tofu, silky Tofu Chawanmushi, Kyo-Tsukemono (pickles), Five Grained Rice, White Miso Soup, tangy Ponzu sauce for the yuba, Nama-fu Dengaku (Roasted mugwort and sesame fu covered in Miso paste) and homemade Warabimochi fordessert. The steamy pot holding soy milk and miso sauce (homemade tofu, fried tofu fritter, yuba/homemade soy milk skin and Kyoto vegetables) was also light and delicate. Chewy, savoury and sweet, my first experience with Grilled Namafu was incredible as the miso paste really brought out the distinct flavours of the wheat gluten. Furthermore, made with sesame and kudzu vine, I will visit them again just for the Gomatofu. The portion is generous with the 2 sides. The grilled cajun chicken is tasty and delicious. For $7.90, this is one of the options worth having in FOMO. The waiting time might be a bit long depending on the crowd. If you have toddler, do not fret as there are baby chairs around here despite of the hipster atmosphere.

The burger is the tastiest I have in Singapore. It is so nice that I couldn’t stop eating it without it ended fully in my stomach. This costs $17 so definitely a bit on the expensive side of burgers.

The place is cosy and the staff is friendly. Definitely will bring my wife and daughter in the future.
