Whilst the crayfish delivered with Chan BBQ-esque efficiency (that's the popular BBQ stall at Bedok 85 - STB Consultant) and the zingy tom yum scallops paid homage to LiHo by applying stringy cheese on their heads, the salted egg element of the naked-flavoured prawns was absent, probably off somewhere conducting signalling checks. 3.5/5

Tastes exactly how you'd imagine it to, with the buttered toast cubes being suitably soft and so much peanut butter action happening in every crevice and along every surface, they should rename this sinful pleasure Fifty Peanuts Darker. 3.9/5

The broth eschewed the conventional hearty pigginess of ramen broth for a cleaner, ocean-steeped and wine-fragrant approach. Elsewhere, the spaghettini possessed the al dente firmness of a Yoga Movement yogi's torso. 3.8/5

The pasta was non-clumpy and individualistic with the toned firmness of a Gymmboxx instructor, while the soft shell crab tempura was reliably crispy. Elsewhere, the coal-red, pleasurably spicy sauce played it more tomato than eggy sweet, but the supple crab chunks brought the chilli crab concept home. 4.1/5

The gigantic prawn possessed a grilled smokiness, springy bounce and fresh sweetness worthy of its royal origins. Elsewhere, the thick and creamy sauce coated the firm and well-cooked pasta fairly thinly, with the salted egg bringing its best game forward without the proceedings ever reaching clumpy and overly-wet territory. 4/5

A decent light breakfast to start the day ($8.90 for croissant & $5.50 for a big mug of capp). Convenient if you are staying at Hotel Yan upstrais. Coffee is also good. An overall pleasant experience

New lunch place to check out! @CafeNidoSingapore is located at Hotel Yan, along Jalan Besar (food heaven). It's really nice and airy, quiet too. They serve up cafe favourites with an Asian twist. Eh, really nice lei. No lie. I've two favourites there already. The first is the Beef Rendang Dippers. The thick, chunky sauce reminds me of American chilli, but has a distinct Asian flavour with lemongrass and other rendang spices mixed together with succulent minced beef. While lacking a spicy punch, it makes up for it with its full flavour and satisfying meat and onion chunks. The best part of it is the dippers though. The owners had potatoes specially cut into spoon-like fries for this dish. Each dipper is sturdy enough to let you scoop up a hearty spoonful of sauce, but has crisp, thin edges that bring out the fluffiness of the potatoes. It's exactly like what thick-cut fries should taste like with the added bonus of being a spoon! Shiok. Somemore $10.90 only! Remember to share!

Out of the five items we ordered, this was our favourite. Café NIDO prides itself in making the patty in-house and we were told that they also add lard into the mix for that extra oomph. As if that wasn't indulgent enough, there's also a salty bacon strip and a jiggly sunny side up smacked between the buns. The accompanying sweet potato fries were not bad either.

So who said that tarts have to be all sweet and can't be savoury. These chili crab tartlets came all dramatic with its presentation, with shredded fried crab sticks stuck on the top for a good crisp. Inside, the chili crab does come with a punchy fiery kick, but also with a little sweetness from the crab itself as well. The only thing that got me was the tartlet shell; it carried a little sweetness that seemed to be more suited for a dessert tart than a savoury one like this. That being said, I really liked the effort and the fillings of this tart quite well. They also do have a salted egg prawn version for those who fancies salted egg thingies as well. (PS: Gave some feedback on the tartlet shells and they would be looking into it.)

These would definitely fit well for those who are just look for a dainty light bite for afternoon tea break in the area. One of the new flavours available on the day I visited, these are zingy and refreshing; the tart flavours definitely helps to wash the palette. Tartlet shells were biscuity, and held firmly without shattering into a mess even after a few bites.

Had this for brunch at Cafe NIDO within Hotel Yan at Tyrwhitt Road and thought this was rather decent. No doubt something one can prepare at home (and tasted creepily similar to what I would have whipped out anyway), but this sure does work for a comforting brunch away from home for the hotel guests staying there. Ideally the toast used could be less dense; perhaps something other than the Ciabatta can be used, but it still is crisp without picking too much into the nitty gritty bits. The mix of mushroom used are King Oyster Mushrooms, Shiitake and Button Mushrooms, all earthy and creamy while topped off with melted and stringy mix of Gruyere and Mozzarella cheese. The baby potatoes are sautéed with mixed herbs for a nice hint of flavour without going overly salty (that's how I do my potatoes too) and the vine tomatoes burst its zesty juiciness when you bite onto them. Not something mind-blowing, but I really enjoyed the homeliness and how comforting it was. The owners here seem to place an emphasis on using fresh ingredients and insist on doing most things from scratch themselves, which is something I find pretty commendable.

Soft, fluffy, yummy and pretty. But $4 per piece is a tad too ex imo.
But this is defintely the kind of cafe I wanna be in to stay away from the heat. Instagrammable and smelling good 😍😍😍

People take so many photos of me.

People pour sauces all OVER me.

The board I am on is not enough to hold the sauce.
Then people say I am not fluffy enough after they cut me up.

Why is my sis called "Hot" but I am called "Pan". It's so tough being a pancake!

Located within the lobby of Hotel YAN, this cosy cafe is a refreshing change to lunching at the hawker stalls in the vicinity. It's also a great place to spend a weekend afternoon with a good read. Start with a Latte ($5.50) or for non-coffee drinkers, the Iced Soy Milk with Gula Melaka ($3.50). For food, try the NIDO Homemade Pork Burger ($18.90) — a tower of bacon, onion rings and a fried egg stacked precariously on a thick, very satisfying 150g pork patty. The sesame bun is placed leaning against the burger to soak up all the runny goodness from the fried egg. Save space for the sweet potato fries that are served with the burger — super addictive! The Homemade Laksa with Charred Crayfish ($12.90) is also worth a try — flavourful, creamy broth with boiled egg and crisp beancurd, made elegant with the lightly charred slipper lobster.
Avg price: $20 per person

Reliably good, especially the juicy patty. Relish in the yolk-cutting ceremony and soak up all the flowy goodness with the buns and array of fillings. Though the sweet potato fries might have mysteriously outshone the burger in its crispy simplicity.

the #laksa gravy had fairly strong heat to it which I liked, though it could do with a bit more depth and flavour. the subtle creaminess from coconut milk and the quintessential laksa leaves were sadly missing. loved the rice #noodles though, which were soft and silky, gleaming like the ones I saw in @stormscape's picture (which inspired me to try this). #crayfish was okay but could've been bigger and sweeter. overall not bad but not great. the ambience of the #cafe is really lovely though so I might go back to try other things ☺️✌🏼️ #foodsg #burpple #cafesg
