Chicken Chop + Pork Chop + Sausage
Old school western food, large portion. Meats were grilled well, juicy and not dry whatsoever.
Chef Hainanese was previously at Tanglin Halt and have since shifted here to Magaret Drive Hawker.
They only open 2 hours between 7-9pm on Saturday to Wednesdays only. Business is good, with lots of cash notes clipped onto the pole at the ordering counter.
I wanted to try it out after work before covid but then no fated :") I asked my friend stayed at West area but she alr tried it a couple of year ago. So we decided to get sharing chef set 3 ($13) instead. We really like grilled chicken chop (tasted really good and best selling tbh) tbh instead of pork chop (tasted really salty tbh) (can skip for this). I overheard that they added mashed potato inside the chef set 3 bc in the past they don't have inside.
The uncle is very rude and poor service. We come here first time and ask what is in the mixed grill cause the pictures weren't clear. This uncle simply jus brush off and says dun ask me. If dun ask how to order. Attitude problem stall. Dont come again anymore
Tried the chicken chop and steak - both were good and really tasty. Portion is also quite big with the potato and fries! The sauce on the meat is also quite unique, not like what you usually get at western stalls.
Only complaint: felt quite thirsty after the meal, probably quite a bit of MSG?
A traditional Hainanese style western food tucked away in Tanglin Halt Hawker Centre, opens only from 7pm (not on time in fact) onwards at night and closes before 10pm. To our surprise, a long queue had already formed in front of the stall before it was opened and people were patiently waiting as the stall owners took their time to prepare.
This hearty plate of mixed grill came with a combination of chicken sausage, fish cutlet, chicken chop and pork chop, topped with a sunny side up and several sides including coleslaw, fries, baked beans and a baked potato. While the fish cutlet wasnβt an impresser, the chicken and pork chops were flavorfully marinated with their own secret recipe, and grilled till tender. Other than the black pepper sauce, look out for their brown sauce which, interestingly, has an underlying citrus taste. Savoury or sweet, likely polarizing as a meat pairing sauce. Fries was served soggy, disappointingly.
No doubt there were hits and misses, I was still quite satisfied with the overall taste and especially value for money with its portion. Itβs still the type of old school western stalls I would patronize for a time travel in taste. However, the order and collection was quite chaotic as many orders were taken at a go, and it was hard to identify if the food that was ready belonged to you.
Definitely a different experience; you gotta feel it for yourself. Gravy has a lemony tinge which I'm not used to (lemon zest?) but the sense of nostalgia, well cooked food, large plates and uncle's way of chionging are all worth admiringπ
Had the pork chop which is only $5. Generous portions, fast service. Stall is run by a father and son team, I think. Taste is OK though the pork was tough. But We have to take our hats off for hawkers who continue to sell us food at such bargain prices despite rising costs everywere. Stall closes alot earilier than 10 PM. Was there on a Sat and they closed by 9 pm. (PS for very good chicken cutlet, try the other stall behind it.)
Had the Set C (chicken chop, pork chop and sausage) with the usual fries and Coleslaw. The meats were cooked with a tinge of lemony zest and all this for $9. However, they only open from 6-10pm so be sure to come here for dinner/supper only!
The best pork chops you can find. Tender like chicken. Incredibly awesome! S$5.
Mixed grilled of chicken, fish and pork drizzled with savoury sauce and a fried egg on top! Super shiok at $7.50? Cheap & good! Note to be taken, this only opens at 6pm!
Insanely good Mixed grill ($7) and Chicken cutlet ($5) with Rojak ($3) side. Back at my old haunt for some good budget hawker fare!
Saturday Dinner π΄ I went back again to my old haunt Tanglin Halt for western food! But this time not eating at No.1 Western Food but at Chef Hainanese Western Food!
Mixed Western Food for Dinner π΄ from Chef Hainanese Western Food stall at Tanglin Halt Food Centre π
The BEST of both world or rather the BEST of everything! π My mixed grill #dinner with Chicken chop, πFish and Chips, πSalad, πΏBaked Beans, Sausage, π and Baked Potato with mayonnaise. Missing a fried egg though! π³
