Dumpling loaded with various ingredients; skin is thin & deep fried to crispy, tad oily; good for sharing..
Noodle is soft, not mushy, mild chewy; sauce is flavorful, thick enough to coat the noodles but not starchy; lots of chopped onions & minced meat in the sauce; shredded cucumbers help balance out the taste & add refreshing crunch to the dish; good & comforting bowl of black sauce noodle..
Big piece of meat covered with crispy batter & coated with garlic sauce; meat is very tender; batter is crispy but quite thick; not greasy; sauce is flavorful, towards sweet side..
Finally satisfied our craving for jjajangmyeon after seeing it appearing numerous times in korean dramas! The noodle was chewy with generous amount of black bean sauce, onions and meat. We also ordered the jjampong, which comes with the same yellow chewy noodle as the jjajangmyeon. We loved how the broth was flavorful and not overly spicy! These two bowls of simple dish have brought back such fond memories for us, got reminded of the meals we had during our exchange in South Korea ☺️
Celebrated a birthday here, first time at a korean chinese place with jjajangmyeon filled with lots of onions with tangy black bean sauce. Theres a lot of similarities in korean and chinese food, and the marriage of them here pays tribute to the best of them
Got the $12 one, though I recommend to go for the $15 one if you prefer more meat!
Didn't expect it to look like this but it was so good that i couldn't stop eating. Tasted even better with the ketchup. Must try the zha jiang mian as well! Very well done.
Black Bean Noodles, a popular dish shown in Korean TV dramas. Finally I tried one in Singapore that I actually enjoy it. 😍 I have never try the korea version but I do see a lot of Korean eating in this restaurant.
Swipe 👉 to see the noodles after I mixed it up.

Have been eyeing to try this place even before my Korea winter programme and now that I'm starting to crave for Korean food (after a whole month of it), finally found a reason to come here! Noodles were chewy and black bean sauce generous with onions and minced meat. Would have liked a stronger and slightly sweeter sauce though! Also, the plates of sweet and sour pork that kept coming out from the kitchen looked so appetising, I'll keep a mental note to try that in future!
Chinese Korean cuisine? Korean Chinese cuisine? I never knew such a thing existed till Burppler Hwans Lim brought us for lunch at a favourite restaurant of hers that served it.
We ordered two kinds of noodles and this plate of "Sweet & Sour Pork" to share. Their version of the pork dish took me by surprise as it didn't come with the usual bright orangey-red sauce. Instead, what coated the chunks of light and crunchy fried meat was a pale yellow sticky syrup. Hence, the typical tomato sauce flavour was absent but I didn't miss it at all. In fact, I rather liked this version more.
➊ [Noodles & Seafood with Black Bean Sauce S$16] - finally tried JJM, sauce is pretty good. Not much seafood, lots of onions. Don't walk behind me. 😝
You may walk into DongFangHong, craving for some Korean BBQ, only to find that not all Korean restaurants serve BBQ.
DongFangHong is a Korean-Chinese restaurant. Korean-Chinese food is a hybrid cuisine created by Chinese immigrants in the Incheon area in the early 19th century. It is derived from northeastern Chinese cuisine, with unique Korean flavours and distinctly Korean ingredients.
There are three quintessential dishes in Korean-Chinese cuisine: jajangmyeon, jjampong and tangsuyuk.
J brought me to DongFangHong to satisfy my craving for jjampong. Jjampong is a spicy noodle soup, flavoured with vegetables, meat, seafood and chilli oil. It is derived from Shandong chǎomǎmiàn (炒码面) and evolved into its present form with the addition of gochugaru (Korean chilli powder) and chilli oil.
June had the jajangbokumbap which is essentially fried rice with black bean sauce. You can't go wrong with this tbh.
Slurping a hot comforting bowl of jjampong noodles is the best when it is rainy and wet. Just be careful though because it can get messy on your shirt! Sorry mum 😅

Or sweet and sour pork. We got the XL version for $40. Its different from the Chinese floury kinds we know, its more substantial, crispy and engulfed in a sour, tart sauce.
Its at Dong Fang Hong
Many Koreans living in Singapore patronise this place for jjm and tangsuyuk 탕수육!

Probably the best Jajangmyeon in Singapore. Introduced to me by a Korean colleague. Love how chewy their noodles are and ohhh their sweet and sour pork. Yum yum
