The serving of the glistering plate of noodles was quite generous. It strikes a very well balanced sweet and savoury taste. Noodles were moist and coupled with ingredients like eggs, cockles, bean sprouts and pork lards. Wok Hei taste was not very obvious but decent. The handful of cockles was small, yet juicy and plump. It's always believed that a good plate of Char Kway Teow is made up of some blood cockles to elevate the plate of delicacy.
With more than 50 years of experience, the friendly uncle at Hai Kee used to be from Margaret Drive Food Centre and many regulars have been eating this since youngโฆ๐
Frying this up 1 plate at a time, be prepared to queue at least 30-45 minutes even if thereโs just 5-10 customers in line.
๐Char Kway Teow - SGD4.50/5
Smokey yet moist at the same time. For this SGD5 plate, I must say the portion was pretty generous and there was a good number of plump juicy cockles(hum). If lucky, you might dig up a few huge crunchy pork lard!๐

Telok Blangah Crescent Market & Food Centre
11 Telok Blangah Cres 01-102, S090011
๐4.30PM-9PM (Closed on Sunday)
In the relatively quiet evenings, this stall attracts long queues of 45 minutes or more, all patiently waiting for hawker master Loh Kwee Leng as he masterfully fries each order, one at a time, 4 minutes per plate, as he's done since 1967.
.
Expertly controlling the fire and evenly searing the kway teow / wide flat rice noodles and long cylindrical yellow wheat noodles, garnished simply with fresh plump blood cockles, crisp bean sprouts, crunchy pork lard, and gooey beaten egg.
.
No fish cake or lup cheong / dried cured pork sausage here, yet the wet messy plate of oily decadent goodness carries comforting and robust smoky savoury sweet salty eggy flavours.
.
Typically regarded among the best traditional renditions in Singapore.

Itโs Hai Kee Teochew Char Kway Teow, located at Telok Blangah Crescent Food centre.
The uncle cooked one by one, so the queue is quite long and move slowly.
The char kway teow was good, moist with light wok hei, slightly sweet, and served with cockles and very crisp pork lard (how to say no to pork lard ๐)
If I around this area, definitely i will eat this again.
๐ฐ$4.

Finally checked this char kway teow off my hawker to try list! We queued for around 1 hour for our food (cos uncle meticulously fry each plate of noodles one at a time), and I must say it was totally worth the wait (and calories too)! I dare say this is one of the best char kway teows Iโve tried so far in Singapore! My plate of char kway teow was moist and flavourful, with a very strong wok hei plus generous portions of everything (plump cockles, fried pork lard, noodles etc)! Simply delicious, Iโll be back again for sure!
Another ckt with long queue. For such a simple dish, that says a lot. I found it quite good.
I have to agree with most people that this stall really served one of the best char koay teow in Singapore. Please prepare to queue as the stall helmed by uncle himself only most of the time. But trust me m, it definitely worth your time waiting.
I would even say Hai Kee would even belong in the top 5 stalls in Singapore. One of their key signature would be that every plate of Kway Teow is cooked to order individually. I love the char and wok hei he imparts to each plate. He's very generous with the cockles as well. Hai Kee is definitely a hawker legend. Definitely worth a visit while you still can.
Endless queue at this stall. Came at 7:15pm on a weekday and queued for 35minutes. This stall used to be located at Margaret drive when I was young. Same old school taste! The owner now opens the stall for a shorter period of time (4ish to 8ish pm). Nostalgic old school Char Kway Teow at $3 + 50c (extra eggs~~ highly recommended)
Xoxo,
Wet tissue no have
Extra hum, extra pork lard please! ๐ that's how I like my char kway teow
Waiting time: 40mins.
The gem lies with the crispy lards and cockles. You know when the hawker cooks with his heart. Plate by plate, he treats each one seriously to ensure it's just the way it should be. Most importantly, he's sincere. No attitude.
Expect a queue. This place offers only one item at one size ($3). Generous serving of cockles. Char kuey teow didn't have much other ingredients to make the taste stand out.
the famous one that used to be at Margaret Drive .. still as good! and only $3! ๐๐
As they opens opens in the evening at 5.30pm, came all the way here to queue for a plate of CKT before heading for my dinner at 7pm. After 45mins of wait, here is this plate of CKT. $4.00 a plate, the serving is generous, filled with plump cockles. It's moist, right balance of sweet and savoury.

Other good CKT will prob be Zion Road, Outram Park (Hong Lim) and Hill Street (Bedok). Deliciously cooked and you can smell the wok hei, it is delicious with good amount of hum and lard. The only thing is I got to queue for half an hour at least but well it is worth the wait especially so if you can get a plate for only $3! Opens from 5.30-10 pm. If you do know of other good CKT, do tell me here!! ๐ณ MerRyan is very happy! #merlion #merryansg #singapore #charkwayteow #delicious #burpple #burpplesghawkerfare #cheapfood
$3 for this plate of oily goodness; not necessarily expensive food means it's yummy!
