Excited to uncover a hidden food gem in the heartland neighbourhood of Clementi selling inexpensive and delicious handmade dim sum on the eve of Christmas! 🥟🍤🫔
The average price per basket is about $2.50 and there’s a delectable spread of steamed dim sum items to choose from.
We ordered the standard items including chee cheong fun, braised meat pau, siew mai, har kow [a.k.a. prawn dumpling] and beancurd roll as well as unique creations such as bacon with enoki roll, tofu with phoenix prawn.
Feeling happy and full with their fresh ingredients and incredibly generous fillings! 🫶🏻

Finally tried these pan-fried buns [a.k.a. sheng jian bao 生煎包] after reading rave reviews from social medias.
The enormous bun comes with a somewhat thicker skin and pan-fried bottom, bursting with amazingly flavourful broth and juicy meat filling.
One quick note 📝 is to consume the pan-fried buns & fried dumplings 🔜 as the chewy skin hardens quickly, nearly causing a chipped tooth when I bite on the thick doughy skin. 😨

The Xiao Long Bao was decent which bb enjoyed, though BB felt that the aspic was slightly sweeter than he would have preferred. Skin thickness was alright, and the meat filling texture was among the better ones we have tried thus far.
These baos in the Shanghai Tan Pan-Fried Bun Platter are LEGIT JOOOOICY! Both the pork and prawn buns are packed with well-flavourful & QQ meat filling and brimming with stock like a xiao long bao (which we also ordered), so we were careful not to spurt the broth onto our clothes. We liked the prawn variant more because of the fresh prawns incorporated into the meat filling. Also enjoyed the contrast between the softer & thinner texture of the wrapper and the thicker & crusty base (where the knot is fried) that tasted like a fried mantou.
You can also mix and match the appetiser options in their Appetizer Platter. Their Shanghainese Drunken Chicken features bite-sized pieces with supple skin and subtle tones of Shaoxing wine, and the Black Fungus in Vinegarette is a good option if you want something tangy and spicy!
Love a good coffee shop hidden gem, such as this Xin Peng La Mian at the recently refurbished Bistro 8 at Blk 442 (opposite the 448 market)! Saw several reviews that the Spicy Red Dumplings here are a must try and they really didn’t disappoint - these dumplings are so huge and meaty and only at $5 for a plate of 10! The meat filling texture is less compact and more similar to what you’d get in XLB but it sure is packing with flavor and juices! The sauce was decent with a good vinegary kick but slightly lacking in the heat department, though you can add more chili (Lao Gan Ma) on your own.
Always on a lookout for a good noodle dish as a self-professed noods lover, and the huge portion of Chicken Chop La Mian ($5) left me in a food coma towards the end LOL. The hand-pulled noodles were cooked well with a decent chew and the cutlet was not too oily, but I felt that the meat sauce was somewhat underwhelming. Honestly if not for the little traces of minced meat, I didn’t know it was minced meat sauce lmao.
Hong Ho phang has been around for such a long time ago here at Clementi. The pao and other dim sum here has always been good.
Char siew pao here definitely good. Have been eating this pao very often whilst staying here at clementi previously.

Lo mai kai tasted quite good. But nothing fantastic.
Have been eating here at Lai Kee since over a decade ago.
Dim sum here is quite good. The ingredients tasted fresh and the siew mai was soft & flavourful. Some coffee shop siew mai taste like those factory made and steamed type.
This taste fresh and home made.
It's a little pricey for coffee shop though, my 4 basket here cost me $10.
XLBs ($4): their xlbs were larger than average, juicy and the skin wasn’t too thick tho it broke quite easily once picked up. not the best but v decent considering the price!
fried dumplings ($5): initially found it off-putting how these dumplings were completely fried but they actually taste quite good!! crispy on the outside yet retaining the juiciness of the filling, which they were generous with.
five spices beef la mian soup ($4.50): would advice to just skip this…. a plus is that they are generous with the beef slices which were quite tender but the entire dish is so bland, someone pls pass me the salt 😩
Red Oil Wanton - the wantons with the chilli oil was delicious, and the hint of vinegar in the sauce added a nice tartness.
