Didn't order chicken rice but their Signature Yuan Yang Wanton Mee ($5.50) thar include Veg, generous slices of Char Siew, Wanton, and Fried Wanton. My favourite is their crispy fried wanton.

Location: Boon Chiang Hainanese Chicken Rice, 302 Ubi Ave 1, Singapore 400302

With several stalls spread around Singapore, this is a fairly reliable brand.
.
The chicken is fresh and clean-tasting, decent medium slices in a gravy that's salty savoury. The more popular poached version has a meaty sweet savoury flavour, while the roasted version holds meaty savoury salty notes.
.
The rice is more mild than elsewhere, fluffy but only a faint grainy sweet savoury aroma. I like the dark sweet soy sauce with its salty savoury flavour, and the chili with its sharp tangy sour spicy kick.

I've known this stall for years and I think can consider it a hidden find, since it draws queues but is quite low-profile. It's not mind-blowing though. Both times I tried it's just above average. This time the rice was quite fail. It's not cooked enough.

It’s been quite some time since I posted a review of our beloved national dish, chicken rice. Decided to go off the beaten track and give Lam Bee Restaurant chicken rice in MacPherson a try.

We had both the steamed chicken and roasted chicken (half and half) to share. The meal was about $31 for 3.

CHICKEN 🐓

Chickens here are relatively plump and each bird weighs about 2kg.

Roast chicken was relatively succulent and the meat pretty tender. This was better than the steamed chicken.

Steamed chicken had a beautiful exterior with the velvety looking skin. I felt the meat could’ve been a little more tender as it was on the dry side.

Had an egg cause I like boiled eggs with chicken rice.

RICE 🍚

While the rice was fluffy, it was unfortunately a little bland for my liking. The fragrance from the ginger and garlic were lacking, so was the rich flavour profile of the chicken stock.

CHILLI 🌶

Chilli was slightly spicy and tangy. Nothing to shout about.

SOUP 🍲

Soup lovers will enjoy their selection of Cantonese double boiled soups. We had the watercress and pork bone soup.

If you happen to be in MacPherson, you can give this a try but I won’t make my way out for it again.

We love the steamed chicken with a slightly sweeter sauce compared to other chicken rice.

With gizzard and liver, white chicken meat is tender. Fragrant chicken rice. Quite a popular lunch time location.

The salted egg sauce isn’t too watery wet.
It’s quite dry, flavourful, lil spicy and savoury.
The portion is decent as we didn’t feel it too little or too much.
We love to add fried egg too!
💰$6 (+$0.7 fried egg)

Achar to lessen the greasy feel, give crunchy bites and compliment the savoury chicken!

Succulent chicken meat served with a plate of that fragrant chicken rice, which has been cooked with chicken stock and oil, form a wonderful combination that resulted in this dish being named as one of our national treasures.

Served with a potent chilli sauce and specially concocted ginger sauce (somewhat similar to the ones served at Soup Restaurant), my way of eating is to mix everything together with some dark soya sauce into the rice. This makes eating chicken rice so unique and fun as you get to customize the flavour profile based on your preferences.

Definitely not the usual chicken rice that you get elsewhere where the rice is lumpy, lack of aroma and chicken dry and chopped into small pieces, Unusual Chicken Rice is definitely one of the better chicken rice stalls around. The pictured was what we ordered for lunch which amounted to $24 for half a steamed chicken and half a roasted chicken with four plates of rice.
