Strawberry watermelon cake
($8.90/slice)
⭐️ 4/5 ⭐️ (more of a 4.2)
🍴Ever since trying @blackstarpastry’s famed rendition, have been searching for a good one in SG but without much luck. Thus, was highly excited when friends at Oh Deli arranged to send over their freshly made version.
Refreshing and light on the palette, this unique cake featured juicy and crunchy watermelon sandwiched between almond dacquoise and light rose-flavoured cream, topped with strawberries and chopped pistachios. Delightful mix with just the right level of sweetness (ie., not sweet!).
While the nutty almond sponge was slightly dry on day 1, it became more moist subsequently. Compared to the iconic cake, the rose flavour was more subtle and the cream on the thinner & runnier side (or perhaps it was the heat that melted it). Nonetheless, a delightfully enjoyable take on one of my favourite cakes that got gobbled up way too quickly in this household!
⚠️ Do note that they rotate their cakes in store, with this only available on a rare seasonal basis. But do consider checking the deli out for hearty breakfast and mains, along with gourmet meat, produce, and wines from Australia and Europe.

Great quality meats from our local deli, awesome breakfast and coffee. Their sausage rolls are amazing!
We happened to discover Oh Deli quite by accident and what an accident it was.
From the outside, it doesn't look like much.
Even at a first glance, the menu isn't fancily done.
But what it lack on these aesthetics was made up 100% by the food.
Omelette ($10.90)
Freshly made and piping hot, the omelette isn't your fold over, elegant omelette. These are more, cook-in-a-skillet, hearty, home made omelettes and it tasted like it too.
Made with really fresh ingredients, it was lightly seasoned and allowed each ingredient to be nicely highlighted.
Simple, fuss free, hearty and satisfying.
Egg Island ($14.50 + $4.00 for additional grilled mushroom)
This feels like the ultimate comfort British breakfast.
Baked beans were nicely cooked, soft without being mushy.
The poached egg was perfect. And I mean PERFECT! The white wrapped around the yolk beautifully and the yolk was nice, thick and runny.
Sour dough was pretty good without being too sour (which I personally prefer). The mushrooms were well cooked with minimal seasoning but was packed with flavor and the sausage was so so so good.
Not overly seasoned, the sausage had a great meat to fat ratio and was nicely coarse. Yummy!
The food here was very well done. Slightly on the mid-price side due to most of their ingredients being organic or free ranged (which is better than paying for for "fancy" all day breakfasts) but what they did was make a good hearty breakfast... well... good and hearty without being overly fancy or hipsterish.
Will definitely recommend you check out this place if you're around the area and Oh! (All pun intended), it's also a grocery store so you can grab some really great ingredients while waiting for your food to be served too!
Premium Italian leg ham with some solid cheddar compressed together between 2 buttered slices of multigrain toast. A take on the classic sandwich really does not get better than this!
Have heard quite a couple of good things about their sandwiches online, but my love for Chicken Corden Bleu made me order the Chicken Kiev when I eyed upon it on the menu. Don't expect the oozesome, uber cheesy sort of Chicken Kiev here; they use a different sort of cheese here that it's more like the cheese, garlic and herbs are spread over atop the chicken breast before coating it in batter and then frying it instead. The result is a less jelat Chicken Kiev that it's manageable to finish alone on an empty stomach; subtly cheesy and garlicky with the fresh, tender and very juicy chicken as the juices leak out as one slices through the Chicken Kiev (they emphasize a lot on using fresh meat here, not frozen meat). Even the accompanying garden salad is fresh with onions for a little numbing sensation and raisins for a little sweetness. They also do retail of marinated/fresh meat that is ready-to-cook here, and definitely a good place for a quick stopover to do all your grocery shopping and settle your meals all under one roof.
Ended up at this deli in the east for lunch and this place is surprisingly packed with Caucasians. To my surprise, this is probably the only place that serves Genovese coffee apart from now defunct The Plain and RONIN. Flat White is pretty smooth here although on a slight milkier side of things, but definitely not a bad option in the east especially when they also serve quite a variety of sandwiches and also brunch here.
Located along East Coast Road (opposite Penny University) lies a nondescript butchery cum restaurant. Not only can you can get premium cuts/homemade sausages, there's a wide selection of imported produce such as pastas and cheese. The best part? It doubles up as a restaurant whereby you can order items like Honey Mustard Chicken ($16.90), Grassfed Beef Steak ($24.90), Pork Chop ($24.90) and the interesting Chicken Kiev ($16.90), which is herb butter stuffed in chicken breast and deep fried till golden brown, and surprisingly does not feel greasy at all. All these meats were straight up from the butcher and into the skillet.
Soft cake - like scones. They are quite good but something is missing and I can't put my finger on it. Didn't like the cream. wish they have clotted cream instead
Google led me to an article that called these one of the best scones in Singapore but sadly they were American biscuits (that I’d pick Popeyes’ rendition over) instead of scones.
Food was simple but very well prepared!

ACAMASEATS & GTK💮: Those who know me, even a little bit, will be familiar with my unholy attraction, addiction & affection to the meat mutant that is the hotdog. Especially when it’s home and hand made with natural casings, served with caramelised sautéed onions. 🤤
.
A good hotdog bun doesn’t need the extra sauce on the side, however the mustard and tomato relish levitates the umami level with every bite. This little hidden gem is part deli, part cafe, part butchery and party grocer. If there’s a place I’d totally go bonkers and fall in love for, this will be it. 🔖

ACAMASEATS & GTK💮: Normally I’d prefer having some greens in my burgers however this particular bun does not even require any, it’s a full blown sinful affair.
The mini steak was tender enough, subtlety sweet and savoury sautéed onions are so darn satisfying but the highlight was the Blue Cheese as it goes exceptionally well with the beef. 🤤
.
This is a not so hidden gem for the east siders however it’s relatively unknown to others. Everything in their cafe menu is homemade, made to order, freshness and quality is second nature here.
A retail section, cafe and butcher all in one providing delicious Australian grub, y’all East siders are such lucky motherfu*kers. 🔖
