Rendevous is my favourite nasi padang store ever. Having ate here back in the 90s when they were located at Rendevous Hotel. Fell in love with their curry and rendang ever since.
Having come here multiple times, I have never tried their Fish Head before.
The Assam taste was very "Strong", sour and spicy. The fish head meat was also fresh. Rather huge for $23 and its rather filling.
Although this was good, I still prefer their korma and rendang curry chicken.
Overall this place is really overpriced, there's good reason why there's only 10 groups in the entire restaurant on a weekday dinner. We spent 28 per pax before this beef was charged
The Rendang gravy was pretty good, even if mildly spiced. Pleasantly surprised it's different from the ckn Rendang gravy, although there are definitely similarities. However this dish is rightfully not highly recommended, because the beef is tough and dry. It's not absolute cardboard though, palatable with the good gravy
Their most expensive ckn? And for good reason, it's not your strong Rendang but somehow it is very addictive, well balanced and thick despite being not too strongly seasoned.
Worth a try if you're here alr
Their curry is quite thick, rather mild and on the sweet side. Not particularly special, and again really severely overpriced
The sotong is abit rubbery, still acceptable. The sauce is not a sambal, some peanut based sauce that's quite thick, quite fragrant. This is worth a try if you're alr here
The rice is quite fluffy but the brinjal chili is what's unique in this picture. It's got a sour smell that's not particularly good but its mild body brings some heat which works well w their other mild offerings
My favourite Nasi padang shop.
Fell in love with their curry since I first had it in the 1990s.
Curry thick and flavourful.
Chicken soft and tender.
Have returned many times.
Pretty decently priced at 23 for a huge meaty bald head. Fresh was extremely fresh.
Could do with less oil but flavours on point and for once , the lady fingers are crisp and green .
Rendezvous Restaurant Hock Lock Kee is so old-school, they don’t even have an Instagram account. But this #NasiPadang eatery is an institution.
My parents used to take my brothers and I to their original venue to makan when we were kids. Back then, it was located on the ground floor of a building where the Rendezvous Hotel now stands. The set-up was more like a coffeeshop, and a rather dimly-lit one, in those days. Quite a contrast from the bright, air-conditioned space in Raffles City they moved into some years later, and more recently, the second floor unit in The Central mall at Eu Tong Sen Street that they currently occupy.
@eechong had suggested we meet there for the group lunch. By “we”, I mean Chef-owner Jeffrey of @ovenbird_sg, @makanfuku, @ramenking2018 and us. Ee Chong also did the ordering which consisted of asking for and pointing to nearly everything on the menu 😆.
Rendezvous’ style of Western Sumatran Nasi Padang that was first introduced in Singapore in the middle of the 20th century, is not overtly spicy. So there is little chance of burning tongues and sweaty brows. Flavours are however, confidently calm and distinct - drawing on a variety of traditional aromatics combination to form the vibrant rempahs and rich gravies. I doubt you could go wrong with whatever dish you select but I do recommend not missing out on the Chicken Liver, Sotong (squid), Chicken Curry and Sayur Lodeh.
Definitely sip a spoonful of all that you order first, just to appreciate the fragrant nuances before you let everything run amok on your plate of rice.
Prices are understandably on the higher side given the comfortable ambience. Our bill for 5 pax came to $115 or $23 each. Still worth every cent in my opinion 😋

Their rendang gravy is damn sedap!!!
👍👍
Absolutely delicious. My favourite nasi Padang place in singapore.
The rendang curry is so damn smooth.
And the chicken is cooked just right.
👍👍
My parents use to take my brothers and I to Rendezvous Indonesian Restaurant back in the day when they were located opposite Cathay cinema, where the Rendezvous Hotel presently stands. At this original spot, there was no dining in air-conditioned comfort and no picturesque views. But it didn’t matter because the Indonesian-style dishes they cooked and served in the rather light-starved, rundown coffeeshop, such as the Chicken Korma, Sayur Lodeh and Chicken Liver Lemak, were a delicious enough attraction. I recall a dish with smooth, slightly flattened fish cakes cooked in a light lemak gravy which we always had to order but today, when I visited the restaurant at its current home inside Clarke Quay Central, I didn’t spot it. Not that it mattered as I had ordered more than enough for one person.
On the whole, I found the food they prepare to be still very tasty. The Sambal Goreng (a stirfry of beancurd, long beans, prawns and tempeh in a spicy rempah) and the Chilli Brinjal were shiok but the Rendang Chicken - now that is the one not to be missed.
Not surprisingly, quality comes at a price and it is indeed more expensive to dine here compared to many other Nasi Padang places. For your reference, I paid $28 in total for my solo meal shown above, inclusive of a glass of hot “teh-o”.
It’s been a while since I ate here and am surprised the standard is still good. Yes the mutton rendang was bit too fibrous but the other dishes like the korma chicken, sotong rendang and even the sayur lodeh is good. In fact the sayur lodeh now has prawns and ladies finger in it. Overall for an institution like this I must say it has remained gracefully good.
The curry gravy is rich with coconut milk but not too spicy
Different types of curry chicken available. We recommend the curry squid and fried potato.
Budget around $25 per person. We rate this 8.5/10
The sambal chilli and the chicken curry full of blue ginger and lemongrass flavour was the highlight !
Gather the family for a feast at this nasi padang stalwart, which started as a coffeeshop in Bras Basah over 70 years ago. Today, it still dishes up the same crowd favourites, but this time in the spacious, air-conditioned comforts of The Central. Expect classic plates like their tender Beef Rendang ($4.70 per piece), Sambal Sotong ($4.70), Curry Fish ($4.70 per piece), Chicken Goreng ($8.70 thigh, $7.70 for wings) and Sambal — be sure to mop up all the gravy and sambal with lots of white rice. While the dishes may look it, they are actually rather gentle on the spice, which means you don’t have to rule out this place even if you’re dining with older children or the elderly — just as long as they can stomach some heat.
Avg price: $15 per person
Brown food is always best. Beef rendang, chili prawns, spicy chicken and saya lodeh
