This casual humble skewer joint is the perfect place for a chill weeknight wind down with some friends. Being right beside the Geylang River means breezy evenings even with outdoor seats. Though small, Sa Tae Bak serves a really wicked selection of yummy bites, guaranteed to please even the pickiest of eaters.

I have too many favourites, but if I have to choose, I'll start with a plate of Cold Tofu with Century Egg ($3.50) for sharing. Then, I'll enjoy some grilled skewers and bites — the juicy Thigh with Leek ($1.50), some tasty Quail Egg with Mentaiko ($2), Rice Cake enveloped in Bacon ($2), Pork Belly with Onion ($2) and Shemeiji Bacon ($2.50), ending with a nice Grilled Fresh Oyster ($4.50). Ahhh, all these whole sipping on some cold icy Highball ($6).

What a beautiful evening.

About a five-minute walk from Paya Lebar Square, you'll find this humble hole-in-the-wall with foldable tables haphazardly sprawled out under the stars. Start with the refreshing Cold Tofu w Century Egg ($3.50). Some of our favourites include the delightfully chewy Enoki Bacon ($2.50), juicy chicken Thigh w Leek ($1.50), Quail Egg w Mentaiko ($2), and the Asparagus Bacon ($2.50) that packs a nice crunch. Wash it all down with a pint of Guinness ($9) or an icy cold Highball ($6).

There’s just something about the intimate, no frills, casual setting of the satay bar. It’s right beside the famous Little Vietnam but for a newly opened spot, it can definitely hold it’s own. Come for fresh icy cold drafts of Guinness accompanied by a couple plates of grilled skewers. The service is TOPNOTCH- Super friendly and warm. Love the vibes here. And the food is sooooo goooood, especially for the price. It’s definitely a go-to hang out spot for friends. Loved the thigh and thigh w leek, the grilled chicken cubes were juicy and just exploded with flavour with each bite. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SPOT!

I never knew I quail eggs could taste this good! With the smoky salty creamy garnishing of mentaiko, it completely brought this simple snack to the next level! Asparagus bacon was nice and crunchy with a savoury salty kick to each bite. Perfect when knocking back a cold one!

Our starter of choice- no regrets there! The silky smooth cubes of tofu melts in the mouth with each bite, balancing the stronger saltier flavours of the century egg. Mmmmmm!

This no-frills skewer and dranks joint housed in Grandlink Square (next to Little Vietnam) is my newfound hangout. Expect fresh, affordable and expertly grilled skewers from meats to veggies, and cheap drinks (highballs at $6, say whaaaat?). Plus SUPER FRESH oysters at just $4 per oyster? I highly recommend getting the assorted mushroom-bacon skewer pairings too — all were JUICILY SOLID.

Love the unpretentious and buzzy vibes of this place. Al fresco seating located next to river with dim lighting; a really great spot to unwind at after a long day at work.
