More Reviews of good food at Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant 四川豆花饭庄 (Parkroyal on Beach Road)

Wanted to celebrate a birthday and was looking around for a Chinese restaurant. Went with SCDH as I had a staycation at Parkroyal Beach Road. They have a weekend a la carte dim sum buffet for $68++ a head, which was the reason why the place was packed full. But we were small eaters, so decided to go with a la carte instead.

First thoughts: ambience and decor of the restaurant was great, with ample lighting and plush chairs. However, think they placed diners who only wanted a la carte all the way at the back, hence it was really hard getting the attention of staff for ordering, tea, or anything in particular. They also didn't seem to be very mindful - case in point, a staff poured water on the towel capsule for everyone in the table except for mine and just walked away...

Moving on to the food, these were what we got:
- Half Peking Duck $48 + Ee Fu Noodles add-on (+$20). They offered to roll the duck for us which we gladly accepted. Portion was great, though the duck meat seemed abit too chewy. Noodles were delicious, though the portion per pax (5 of us) seemed abit pathetic.
- La Zi Ji ($28 for Small). Visually impressive, and spicier than expected. Chicken bits were really crunchy, but the ratio of meat to flour was really abysmal.
- Chinese Spinach and Crispy Fish Skin in Superior Stock ($26 for Small). Your first taste will be intensely "veggie", but we grew to like this, though the flavour was simple.
- Xiao Long Bao ($9.50 for 3). Not worth, can skip. Skin too thick and meat filling was dull.
- Shou Tao ($1.50 per bun). Told the staff I was celebrating a birthday and asked if they could do anything special, and she simply said that I could buy a Shou Tao for $1.50 each...But this was pillowy and the lotus paste was delicious.
- Beancurd with Wolfberries ($6). At least we ended the meal with a good dessert. The dou hua was really soft with a great balance of sweetness. Recommend this.
- Chinese tea $6/pax.

Overall, the bill came up to almost $200 for the 5 of us which I felt was not worth at all, for the service and the quality of the food. Moreover, the meal felt so transactional (still can't believe I have to pay for the Shou Tao) and service was just perfunctory without any care. If not for my GHA 25% discount and Hotel Stay $30 dining credit, wouldn't even have bothered.

First time eating this. Very nice. The 干锅牛蛙 and 泡椒牛蛙 remain my favourites.

In anticipation of the autumn season, Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant at PARKROYAL on Beach Road presents a lineup of exquisite dishes in their autumn-themed set menus crafted by Masterchef Dave Lai. You can look forward to memorable dishes such as the Spanish Spareribs with Orange Peel, spicy Jianghu-style Deep-fried Yellow Croaker that comes in a minced meat soya bean sauce, and the comforting Vapour-steamed Quail Soup with Bamboo Pith. Special shout-out for the Braised Prawn with Bean Curd in a truffle mushroom sauce served in a mini stone pot to retain the heat. For desserts, the delightful Chilled Coconut Pudding with Fresh Fruits is a great ending with a touch of sweet notes.

Don’t miss out on this outlet-exclusive item! Accompanied with springy fish paste noodles, the dish features half a juicy lobster 🦞

Didnt know they serve dim sum here, as on my previous visits, we always have their regular si chuan dishes, which were consistently good.
The dim sum today was great too! They were beautifully presented. Taste wise, all items were excellent and did not feel so heavy on the tummy.
Some surprises: Promengerate dumpling and glutinous rice yam roll.
Would recommend a visit.

💸 'Treats from the Heart' Weekend ala carte dim sum buffet: $52++/pax (we quoted 'DFD20' during reservation to enjoy 20% off)
...
We've missed having our yum cha sessions since circuit breaker, and we were thrilled to try Si Chuan Dou Hua🎊, especially since we've heard a lot about their 9 dim sum specialties which is limited to only one serving per person while the other items on the menu can be ordered for unlimited times. Their 9 dim sum specialties were indeed unique, by incorporating premium ingredients such as foie gras, bird nest, sea urchin etc😲. However, we felt that maybe sometimes, its better to keep the classic dim sum dishes as they were😅

Moving on to other items, usual dim sum items like char siew pau, pan-fried carrot cake etc. are available, which tasted average to us. What caught our attention was definitely their si chuan dishes🔥 such as mala chicken cubes which we kept going back for! Their desserts🍬 were well executed, especially their homemade fine bean curd with hasma which was so smooth and silky! A must try in our opinion👍.

Lastly, we couldn't help but to gush over the delicate presentation of their dim sum items. Everything was presented in small steamers, small plates and individual portions which was so cute😻! It also allowed us to try many items on the menu without generating food wastage, which we really appreciated. Overall, it was a value-for-money💰 buffet as we left with happy and filled tummies😌!

Prepare your tummy, coz the spread of dim sum is a lot and yummy, unlimited servings of classic Cantonese as well as sichuan dim sum, appetiser, Nourishing soup and dessert.

💰 $52.00++ for adult.
💰 $30.00++ for child (6-12 years old) .
