Original Herbal Bak Kut Teh (RM20)
I liked how we are able to customize and pick ingredients we like. Intestines were quite clean - minimal to no porky taste. Broth was flavorful, comforting and not too heavy

For people who like the herbal type of bkt as opposed to the more peppery ones we are used to in Singapore, this is a pretty decent option near KSL.

We ordered for 3pax, added pork knuckle, youtiao and salted veg+ shared only a bowl of rice among 4 of us and it was just right (LOL MY FRIENDS ARE TINY EATERS). I liked how we are able to customize and pick ingredients we like. Also happy to report that the intestines were quite clean - minimal to no porky taste. Broth was flavorful, comforting and not too heavy, wouldn’t mind being back if I’m in the area.

If you only had the peppery bak kut teh throughout your entire life, i think you are missing out. Right beside Johor Bahru’s KSL Mall, you can find a herbal bak kut teh store. Unlike the peppery versions of bak kut teh, this is much more savoury without the overpowering punch of pepper spices. Instead, this bowl of soup has a deep deep herbal-ish and pork bone taste. Every mouthful packs with flavour and deep pork bone soup fragrant that you will beg for more. Furthermore, the ingredients that come the soup is customisable (you can pick which ingredients you would like to be included into the soup), and very very fresh, the pig innards and meat are very well cleaned (no gamey-ness). To me, this is a fair alternative to the peppery bak kut teh that i absolutely love and still do, its definitely worth the try!

I love Sg version bkt, peppery and more flavorful. However as I cannot really take spicy.. this herbal version is much more “drinkable” for me haha. But because we get to add a lot of different ingredients (pacific clams!) in... the taste of Ba kut Teh has changed. Still, it’s cheap and comfy. 😋 #Malaysia #johor #travel

(Just right opposite KSL City Mall) It’s not an overstatement to say this is the BEST BAK KUT TEH! You get to pick n choose your own ingredients in the soup! I love it! All the fav in a Claypot! We love their small intestine, pork liver, fried beancurd skin, pork ribs, enoki mushroom, fish maw! The broth has a great balance of pepper and light herbal taste, it’s so unique that you get hooked to it! You only get to refill once so drink it sparely! So far, we hadn’t find the same feeling, taste in SG Bak Kut Teh... I’m so craving for it now!! #soonsoonheng #soonsoonhengbakkutteh #ksl #jbbakkutteh #bakkutteh

Herbal BKT place that’s usually crowded with reasonable waiting time. We get to customise our ingredients before being allocated to a table. Prices are slightly higher compared to other BKT stalls in JB but i’ll still be back for this! 😋

Priced by the number of pax, the hebal broth was pretty light but just as slurp-worthy. Not too herbal-ly, the hint of pepper in the pipping hot base helped to balance the porky flavours and also served to break the sweetness.

💕 Nothing in Singapore can beat this one! RESTORAN SOON SOON HENG BAK KUT TEH 顺顺兴肉骨茶🐷 We decided to settle our lunch here after seeing it filled up with many ppl & long Q the last visit we came.. It’s easy to find them.. just take a bus from JB Sentral To KSL Mall RM1.50. You will aight outside The Coffee Bean, take an escalator down 1 floor to Lower Ground and walk out of the glass exit next to Swensen and they are right opposite across the small road! You will be able to see their signage big and clear. Super friendly stall owners will ask you what ingredients do you want to add, from pork balls, fried beancurd skin, pig intestine, etc... We pick and choose what we want and was served shortly with a claypot of popping hot Bak Kut Teh with all the ingredients we chose! Super tasty soup, not salty and pepper-ish like what we had here.. doesn’t feel like MSG soup coz u won’t feel thirsty after the meal! I personally love their pig liver as they cooked it so well, just nice (not too bloody, not over-cooked). You Tiao is DA BOMB! It’s warm and it doesn’t turn soft & soggy after throwing into soup. It’s just so AWESOME! Meat is great too! Preserved vegetables is good because it’s crunchy and not too sour, salty! Everything is just so NICE! Highly recommended for all Bak Kut Teh, open 830am-9pm! #bakkuteh #jbbakkutteh #jb

Blessed with short queue times for this BKT, we ate here even though we heard there were better BKT elsewhere as it was convenient and close to KSL. To me the broth was yummy and not too heavy! Dress light as the restaurants ventilation is not in tip top condition and it might get hot and sweaty. Remember to order the taukee and other ingredients as add-ons as the BKT itself does not come with them. [We only realised this when our BKT was served :( ]

We added taukey after taking this pic hahaha bc j forgot about it. Love th broth and all th ingredients in it bc it's rly fresh. Th pig leg was soso only bc i prefer if th meat was more fatty. Overall it's still good! 👍🏻 3.5/5 📍Opposite ksl city mall

Crossed the road after a massage in KSL City Mall for an early dinner here at Soon Soong Heng Bak Kut Teh! Prices here go by pax servings but we went for the 2 pax portion for 3 of us and it fed us just about right! Loved that you can customise and top up other ingredients into your pot like enoki mushrooms, button mushrooms, clams, pig livers (super tender), pig stomach, etc. I wouldn’t say it’s the best BKT I’ve had, but it was still super satisfying to slurp down spoonfuls of that bubbling hot soup that’s kept warm in the claypot throughout the meal. The broth feels like a cross between the peppery and herbal sort, flavourful but light at the same time. Will definitely be back!

There's nothing like drinking the broth that has been boiling with Pork Bones for a long period of time, and the broth here is full of flavor by yet it is surprisingly light too. The clay pot if filled with a variety of ingredients like Pork Ribs, Pork Balls, Mushrooms and bean curd skin like things. And you will be all set once you order your rice and the usual side orders of the Pig Trotters, Salted Vegetables and Peanuts. Slightly pricey for Malaysian prices (abt RM20 per person), but worth a visit if you have never been before.

Not very impressed by this - the gravy, while flavourful, was a bit too runny for my liking. Chicken was ok, although not many pieces were given and those pieces weren't very meaty. The main draw here is still the bkt - you're not missing out on much if you skip this.

Bak kut teh in JB is such a steal! Apart from giving so many more ribs per serving than Singapore offerings, you also get to add other ingredients like inoki and button mushrooms, pork slices, pork belly, pig stomach, pig liver and many more. The best thing is that a serving for two with all the aforementioned ingredients and more only cost 45RM, which comes up to about $15, including drinks! Always a must-have whenever you pop by for a day trip!

Here the BKT is based on per pax so it will be available from MYR12 for 1 pax onwards. You can choose to have additional toppings (i.e. pork liver, fried beancurd skin, enoki mushroom) to be included into the slight peppery soup base for a more flavoursome taste. You might also want to try the other side dishes such as Sesame Oil Chicken (MYR 11.00), Dried Tofu (MYR 3.50) and Salted Vegetables (MYR 3.50). Note: the place can be quite packed, so small groups will be the best.

Both of us did not really like the broth as it tasted quite artificially sweet(I suspect it is caused by excessive amount of MSG. 😳😳). Not recommended even though it was crowded.
