More Reviews of good food at Sumiya Charcoal Grill Izakaya (Suntec City)

Expect 20mins wait time. Nicely grilled eel served in a hot dish on a bed of rice. 3 ways of eating it according to the pamphlet provided. Decent.

Egg tempura was something new - lava egg wrapped with tofu skn (?) deep fried to perfection. Other deep fried items like shitake mushrooms, ebi, brocolli, eggplant were well executed.

Beautiful presented. Assorted sushi topped with salmon, ebi, maguro, unagi, tamago, fish roe etc. Served with miso soup, chawanmushi, orange slices and ocha.

Wonderful service, the tuna meat is really tender and good. Staff informed us about the cooking time and always keep us updated about it. Everything are great here. Definitely be back again next time when I can

Their fish is fresh, beer/sake options are wide and their service is top notch.
Their signature, The Kaisen Bara Don Set [$22.80] - salmon, ikura, minced tuna, avocado and tamogoyaki all condensed into one amazing bowl of goodness. Together with a side of chawamushi, miso soup and fruit, the meal is very complete. For this quality and for their quantity, I can assure you that you will not regret ordering this. It had been reported on their webpage to be one of the Top 15 Chirashi Don Sets in Singapore using premium fresh seafood airflown into Singapore 2-3 times a week. I personally enjoyed every single mouthful of their fresh sashimi with their bed of decadent Japanese short grain rice.

I usually go in the weekend afternoon, the place is almost never crowded at that timing. It is a laid back restaurant where I can really relax and have a good meal together with my friends and family.
Beyond good food, you will be glad to know that Sumiya has All Day Happy Hour, with Sapporo Draft Beer [$4.80++ for 330ml ; $42.80++ for 3.2L]. It is ALWAYS a good idea to order some beer after your meal, especially at this price. Where else in Suntec City can you get beer for less than $5? I personally feel that this is definitely a good deal that you shouldn’t miss out on.
If you’re in the area, you really should go to
Sumiya to have a bite. It is one of the best, if not the best Japanese Restaurant in Suntec City.

Tldr: Fresh Fish. Good ambience and service. Cheap beer. -Foodier ✌🏻

Available on Sumiya’s off peak menu, Sumiya’s Tendon isn’t quite the one from Tendon Kohaku but is relatively decent per se. Coming with Tempura Prawn and assorted vegetables with Tempura Egg; the bowl is well-portioned and is definitely as substantial as any other Tendons out there. All the Tempura pieces were considerably crisp with a light batter that wasn’t too greasy, though the batter for the cauliflower was particularly dense and floury — not particularly pleasant as compared to the other Tempura pieces in the same bowl. Still, a rather decent option to go for, though it’s neighbour (ahem, Tendon Kohaku) is definitely one that is hard to beat.

This is something I couldn’t stop slurping. The Mixed Seafood Can Can Mushi arrived with a square-shaped hotpot. One of Sumiya’s signature items, this was inspired by the traditional method of Japanese hotpot in which fishermen would cook their freshly caught seafood in a metal tin can.
You will be given a choice of 2 soups, so pick the
A) tom yum OR
B) soy sauce & miso-based broth
with garlic and dried chilli, each mouthful brimming with freshness from the seafood.
I liked how the soup was rich with a tinge of spiciness, making this one of our favourite Japanese hotpots in Singapore. At @Sunteccity

Good value ($20.80++) for lunch set, excellent amount and quality of sashimi and rice. comes with edamame and dessert, top up $3 for the mochi for the full experience! (they also have truffle sauce and sesame sauce, but it didn't quite match)

If you're looking to satisfy your chirashi cravings in the Suntec area, this is it! Comes with sides and fruits.

#eatingclean with sashimi salad topped with ikura! ❤️ the sesame sauce and the freshness of the vegetables!

This place is pricey ($40+++) per pax at least. Luckily the lunch sets offered (available from mon-sat, not sure about Sunday) make it more affordable and are definitely value-for-money($18.80-$30++). This Kaisen Bara Don has a good any of fresh sashimi. The fish is of great quality, though one of the fish roe was very bitter(spoilt?), but the unique and delish dipping sauces of sesame, truffle and llaver (seaweed) gave it an edge. The set also comes with a starter of a pile of edamame, miso soup and a dessert of either fruits or (very very good) sesame mochi. The mochi had a creamy black sesame filling that wasn't too sweet. Not a mochi fan, but this stole my heart. At $18.80+, this is really worth it as an occasional treat esp for shallower pockets.

Thick pieces of sashimi and the miso soup was so tasty. You can ask for re-phil of miso soup which the 3 of us did.

This turns out unexpectedly great! The soup is the star of the dish and the supporting ingredients enhance it very well. Slurpingly tasty. Yum yum yum. Posted by Ah Leong San 2015 November 26

At a mere $22 after tax, the bara chirashi set here offers tremendous value and sheer satisfaction. It's a first for me to have it served with not one, not two, but a trio of condiments: truffle dip (tastes like porcini paste; very earthy & heady), sesame sauce, and umami seasoned laver (seaweed). Smear a little of each over lightly marinated sashimi cubes with a scoop of well-seasoned sushi rice, and wait for the explosion of flavours to go off. For the complimentary dessert, the pillowy soft matcha/black sesame mochi is a better pick than the virtuous (*coughs* boring) fresh fruit anytime.

Matcha and azuki lovers like myself, this is for you 🍵

One of my favorite dessert at Sumiya Suntec, it is also their latest branch that has a circular enomatic sake dispenser. More details up on www.jacqsowhat.com

The magic of this is in the 3 sauces/pastes that are made in house - the intensely mushroomy truffle paste, a thick and strong sesame paste, and a seaweed paste for you to dip the sashimi in before eating it with the rice. I would eat ANYTHING with the truffle paste and the seaweed paste - such an amazing kick of umami with the two!
