Make a mental note of this sushi joint for unique takes on Jap cuisine in an intimate setting along Tras Street. Get the Shoju Omakase Set (from $300) that includes the Hokkaido shrimp, Botan Ebi, done three ways — sashimi, torched and tempura. Other stunners include the mini rice bowl topped with a delicious concoction of Japanese Ebi and Red Uni. Running low on funds? Opt for the Sushi Set Lunch (from $60) instead that comes with an appetiser, an eight-piece nigiri set, makimono, and even dessert!

For my 30th birthday, my boyfriend took me here to enjoy the best Japanese food experience I’ve had in Singapore. We were supposed to go to Japan but due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to cancel the trip. However, this dinner brought Japan back to us. My favourite dish was the Botan Ebi done three-way - sashimi, torched and tempura. Other standout dishes are the mini rice bowl consisting of tiny Japanese ebi, fresh ikura and Red Uni, chutoro nigiri and the deep fried fugu stuffed with Uni. I’ve truly enjoyed the intimate food experience, with the selection of seafood served in interesting ways. The dessert course of housemade soya bean ice cream, strawberry pudding and Japanese fruit was a great ending to what was an eye-opening dining performance. We would love to come back again, and enjoy what the Chef has to offer. Thank you for the wonderful 30th birthday experience.

Set lunch is an absolute steal with appetiser, 8pc nigiri, makimono, and dessert. On my recent visit in May they featured firefly squid as one of the courses - so fresh and delicate and tasty. One of the most authentic sushiyas in SG, especially if it's the Japanese chef serving. The local chefs are rather inept at slicing the fish (doesn't detract from the taste but just annoys me).

At $70, you get varied course of sushi, miso soup and a small scoop of ice cream with cheesecake. The items were reasonably fresh and offered decent value but nothing spectacular. I still felt hungry after that. Pictured here is the nicest sushi in the set I had- amago.

Scroll down for my review! This was a crazy decadent and flavorful otoro coated with what I assume to be some sort of teriyaki sauce type thing. The fattiness of the fish, the melt-in-your-mouth texture and that sweet glaze really just coats your tongue and engulfs your senses in foodie bliss.

Tried the Shoju ($300++) and utterly enjoyed the entire dining experience here. Hardcore sushi enthusiasts might nitpick the rice which was slightly bland or the perplexing temperatures in one or two of the dishes. But really, you kind of forgive them for these little things because they deliver unique impactful flavors, interesting textures and innovative creations. The atmosphere was also much more comfortable and relaxed compared to traditional sushi-yas thanks to our fantastic chef who was patient in explaining and took care to allow us to have our own conversations as well. Although there is room for improvement, it remains an excellent experience altogether. Would also like to give an all-around s/o to the fantastic staff.
