Famous Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring ($2.50 for 5pcs). They are made of steamed rice flour filled with gula melaka.
They are made on the spot so they will always be piping hot. Nice snack after a meal. Recommend 👍

went on a weekend night and there was a consistent queue of 5-6 pax but was cleared quite fast cos the ladies do their job really fast! very fragrant especially with the coconut shavings and gums melaka inside, i dare say better than those snacks in geylang serai market!
There isn’t anyone queuing when I reached during weekend noon. So sadly, the auntie gave me the pre-packed one which is still slightly warm. However when I opened, the putu piring were stuck together due to condensation. Also, the gula melaka leaked and has hardened up. Nevertheless, this stall is one of the best putu piring I’ve tasted. Soft, fluffy and appropriate amount of gula melaka fillings.
(5 pcs for S$2.50)
I've decided to post this today since many of you were asking about it, and you know I like it enough to go again the following day.
🔸
These were made to order, so be sure to hate some on the spot. They were served piping hot (and caution, these were really too hot for the hands), which explains why the fragrance of pandan and coconut wafted in the air as this was in front me.
🔸
Although it looks similar to the Chinese tutu kueh, there were two difference: first, the fillings were gula melaka with crystallized bits, instead of peanut or coconut for tutu kueh; and second, the rice flour were more loose and fluffy compared to the other tutu kuehs I've tried (but probably I've not tried enough good tutu kuehs that are as fluffy as this).

Finally get to try the Malay kuku kueh, personally I do prefer the Chinese ones better as I think that their dough is a little too thick and the Gula Melaka is too sweet for my liking. Overall, not so bad but I couldn’t come all the way just for this again.

There was a short queue of about 4-5 people when I reached. I rather see a queue actually so that I know what I'm getting is made-to-order.
I read reviews on their FB page where people complained that the ones they got pre-packed; their rice cakes were stuck together due to condensation. Also, the gula melaka (coconut palm sugar) leaked and were over the rice cakes.
I rather have my steamed rice cakes on the spot, piping hot.
The ones I had appeared thinner than the ones I have tried elsewhere, but the soft, warm and fluffy rice cakes, accompanied by the caramel flavour of gula melaka that melted in my mouth was definitely a sweet treat!
Similar to chinese “Tutu Kueh” but this is much fluffier with the rice flour and the I love the fragrant of the coconut flakes. But I can’t really take the sweetest of the Gula Melaka, too sweet for my liking. Overall, it’s worth the try and calories. 👍🏻
Putu Piring in Original (S$3/ 4 pieces) and Durian (S$4/ 3 pieces)
Available freshly made a la minutes at @HaigRoadPutuPiring stall during Hello Toa Payoh! yesterday from 5pm to 10pm.
The original version was soft with not too sweet gula melaka filling , accompanied with slightly salted fresh grated coconut 🥥 on the side.
The durian version was stuffed with a kaya like filling. Just a hint of durian flavour. No real durian pulp.
Have always wanted to try these and so glad we got to do so here at the festival - it was one of my favs that night too! Lucky us had our putu pirings served hot, so we had that slightly gooey gula melaka centre with its steamed white flour cake outer layer topped with a spoonful of grated coconut. Everything went so well together!

I saw online review about Putu Prining ($2.50) is quite popular and a lot of people brought for tea break after lunch. I was eating lunch at Haig Road Hawker Centre. I decided to walk around around lunch, saw the stall selling popular Putu Prining and buy for trying. Putu Prining filled inside Gula Melaka and mixed with grated cononut.

Going old school these days. 5 for $2.50. #burpple #tingzieeats
5pieces for $2! Goodness in one pack🙌🏼 the generous amount of shaved coconut and the putu piring itself is so soft, the gula melaka melts in your mouth😋
In the flurry of freshly-steamed snow white flour cake bleeds a deep brown heart of caramelly sweetness.
(Yes, I can't help but wax lyrical about this).
Light and no pretentious putu piring, with generous just sweet gula melaka , lightly salted grated coconut and the fresh pandan at the base increased fragrance for this light and non oily snacks. Easy on the stomach
cravings for hot blobs of the bestest gula melaka and pandan perfumed warm kueh romancing with fresh coconut shavings. only from this stall, none come close. period.
These babies made our journey to the east worth it. It's easy to find kueh tutu around but this is quite rare. Love how fresh the coconut is and when you receive it hot, the sugar is still melted inside. Awesome stuff.
There's a reason why the stall is plastered with award certificates and press recommendations. The only item on the menu is the soft putu piring with warm melted gula Melaka within! Served with cool coconut shreds these babies taste divine ✨
So light and fluffy that it crumbles at a touch.. wish that the molten gula melaka candy could be more generous though... $2 for 5. I feel the more solid ones that are found at pasar malams have their merits as well but cost $0.50 to $1 more.
