Pork meatballs arenโt the norm and thatโs exactly why I love these. A welcome change from the usual beef options, theyโre perfect for non-beef eaters or anyone looking to switch things up. Handmade and packed with flavour, theyโre juicy, slightly garlicky and have little bits of carrot for added texture.
The marinaraโs got that tangy, homemade vibe with chunks of onion and tomato. Great for sharing, especially if you want something a little different from their usual grilled fare ใ$7.20
Despite its name, this catfish felt more seared than traditionally grilled. The catfish had a nice crisp on the outside while staying tender and flaky inside. The dill sauce brought a tangy, creamy flavour that paired well but there just wasnโt enough of it. By the second half, things started to dry out a bit. More sauce wouldโve made a big difference.
The mushroom rice was as fragrant as ever and the herb potatoes had that perfect crispy-soft combo. Overall, a good meal but next time, Iโm definitely doubling up on the sauce ใ$7.90
Wild Olives is one of those hawker gems that delivers restaurant quality flavours at wallet-friendly prices. The grilled chicken is tender, with a beautifully charred exterior that locks in its juiciness. The teriyaki glaze adds a sweet yet balanced richness, making every bite deeply satisfying.
Every main comes with two sides and my go-to picks are always the mushroom rice with caramelised onions and grilled herb potatoes. The rice is full of flavour and so fragrant, while the potatoes are crispy on the outside and buttery soft inside. If those arenโt your thing, there are plenty of other options like mashed potatoes, fries, coleslaw, veggies or garden salad.
To round out the meal, a comforting bowl of soup is available for just $1. Just a heads-up: the dinner queue is no joke. Expect to wait at least an hour. For a meal this satisfying, itโs a commitment worth making ใ$7.20
Everytime I came by I would see a long snaking queue for this store. Finally, on a Sunday noon when I thought the line wasn't as long, I decided to take the plunge and join the queue.
Lots of different options, all at very affordable prices. We decided on the signatures - the Grilled Chicken Chop and the Grilled Pork Chop. Topped up for the Soup of the day as well. All in all, the food was well-worth all the good reviews and the long lines. Definitely value-for-money and restaurant-quality, and dare I say this could even compete with the likes of Astons. The meats were juicy, tender, and well-charred; the side dishes and soup were all top notch. To be honest, I would eat this every week if not for the queues.
Wild Olives is clearly no stranger to the East hawker scene, serving affordable Western fare. I had the ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ($๐.๐๐) with mushroom rice and grilled herb potatoes๐ฅ๐๐ผ In my humble opinion, this is the best main+sides combi.
Went to Wild Olives a few weeks back and ordered their Grilled Chicken with Homemade Coleslaw and Mushroom Rice ($7.20)๐
Overall ratings 8/10! Thought the chicken was pretty good on its own but the sauce was quite overpowering. Mushroom Rice was also not to my liking, maybe because of too much caramalised onions๐ Waited an hour on a weekday evening to queue, might head back again to try other items instead๐
Wild Olives will continue to satisfy your western food cravings and their unique dishes (and sides) are a cut above the rest. Although theyโve increased prices, their food is still relatively affordable. Youโve got to try out their food yourself to know how good it is! ๐ค๐ซถ๐ป
.
P.S. come 1 hour before opening to be the first few in line, grab a book, a chair and brace yourself for the queue! ๐ซก
This featured a generous slice of fresh salmon slathered with a smooth honey mustard cream sauce. The fish was grilled well and was soft and flakey on the inside, with a crispy skin on the outside it was really SO satisfying.
Their grilled chicken was quite standard. Tender and juicy, it went well with the mushroom sauce. We wanted a change for today, but weโd stick with our usual, their pork chop, next time.
The sides at most western food stalls are usually one and the same, frozen and nothing special. However, at Wild Olives, their sides are not to be brushed aside! โ๐ป The ๐ ๐๐๐ต๐ฟ๐ผ๐ผ๐บ ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐โ๐ซ๐๐ is a must-get. The fried shallots and mushrooms add on so much fragrance and flavour ๐คค, and we love it so much that we always get extras to go! Their ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฒ๐ are the wetter and chunkier kind, (but definitely not instant) and their ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฏ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฒ๐ are delicious albeit a little oily - but all of these sides are definitely worth a try. ๐ฅ๐ซถ๐ป
We also got their ๐ฎ๐ฌ) ๐ง which was definitely tasty although they were a bit heavy handed on the seasoning.
The ๐ฃ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป ๐ฆ๐ผ๐๐ฝ ($๐ญ) ๐ฅฃ was a pleasant surprise for us. It was creamy and light, and made in-house with love! ๐ฅฐ
the garlic filled cream sauce was everything!! the mussels were generous and meaty, definitely a lovely treat if youโre feeling bougie for lunch
12.90 steak in a hawker centre ๐ณ we ordered medium rare and it was a tad over but still soft and enjoyable. We especially loved the herb mashed potatoes and the grilled/ roasted potatoes
2 generous chops with heaps of fragrant mushroom rice. Fries were on the hard side, would opt for their other potato sides instead
Grilled Catfish w/ Creamy Dill Sauce ($7.20), with Wild Olivesโ Signature Mushroom Rice, and Seasonal Vegetables (choice of 2 side dishes)
Black Mussels w/ Garlic Butter Cream Sauce ($7.50, good for sharing)
1h queue on a rainy Sunday lunchtime, but completely worth it. All the food is flavourful, meats are grilled to perfection, and portions are generous & value-for-money.
They have an (unspoken) system in place where they will come around to the queue to get everyoneโs choice of mains to start grilling; when you finally get to the counter, settle the choice of sauce and sides (and any other add-ons), and make payment. The food is served pretty quickly after that.
I know many rave about their grilled chicken and breaded chicken mains together with their delicious sides, their Garlic Butter Mussels (~$7.50) are really to die for as well. I'm so glad I got this too when I ordered takeaway, as it came it generous portions and was absolutely delicious! Each fresh sweet mussels were well drenched in the garlic butter sauce, which has strong umami flavours coming from the garlic, and had a good rich creaminess that is addictive. Pair this sauce with their mushroom rice and it's a definite party in the mouth. Definitely giving this a must try rating!
Still hands down the best Hawker centre Western food. You may complain about the 1.5h wait, but hold your frustrations till you have taste a bite of their mains and side dishes. At just $6.60, the grilled chicken chop comes with 2 generous side dishes, and I picked their most popular 2, the herb potato and mushroom rice. The grilled chicken itself is not only really tender, succulent and flavourful, the skin is crispy and the sauce given adds on another dimension! Really a perfect chicken chop. The herb potato has this umami flavour going on which makes it so delicious. The mushroom rice is garlicky and flavourful as well!
The Grilled Catfish ($7.20) was also fresh and somehow it also had a crispy crust just like fried fish cutlets. Loved the dill sauce! The coleslaw and fries were okay, but just go for the 2 popular sides.
So sad that they ran out of their fried chicken cutlets, because the last time I had them they were so good too!
Tucked in the corner of Singapore Island, at Pasir Ris Hawker Centre, this grilled chicken chop ($5.90) with mashed potato sides and vegetables makes my tummy so happy! It is well cooked, tender chicken, and the mashed potato is my favourite! I also add on $1 for the soup of the day( Pumpkin in the pic) yummy!
๐ฝ๏ธ Wild Olives' Grilled Pork Chop with herbs potato and coleslaw $5.80 + pumpkin soup $1
๐ The pork chop is tender and grilled to perfection with a little charred at the side. It comes with a mushroom sauce with slices of mushrooms in it.
๐ฅ There's a tanginess to the coleslaw which is refreshing.
๐ฅ The herb potato is a tad overpowering for me. The herb season is nice but it might be the worschester sauce that's a tad too sweet for me.
๐ต The spiced pumpkin soup is nice. The spice cuts through the creaminess of the soup.
Overall it's totally worth the price for the quality and quantity of the food. Just note that the queue is always long and you need at least 1hour of waiting time. Queue start forming 45mins before its opening.
