Jing Tai Lan (the Chinese forcloisonné) is a unique art form featuring a combination of sculpture, painting, coppersmith work and porcelain craft. Lee Kwang Kee Teochew Cuisine brings this form of art to diners in the form of their fish head steamboat, with the cloisonné decorated on the steamboat.

Served with a platter of vegetables, egg floss, enoki and sliced red grouper. The steamboat is packed with ingredients such as red grouper fish head, Chinese cabbage, beancurd and taro. The initial broth was slightly bland but it gets flavourful after throwing in those ingredients on the platter. The sliced fish was thickly sliced, fresh and succulent. I always remember this place when I feel like having authentic Teochew fish porridge or steamboat back in my old hood 》$85 / Medium

Their porridge pot comes with a choice of batang, garoupa or pomfret with batang ranges from $6 (small), $12 (medium) and $20 (large) but we decided to go for the medium garoupa porridge pot that is sufficient to feed 3 pax.

The broth of the porridge is creamy and milky with robust flavours. The fish slices were fresh and sliced to a decent thickness while not forgetting how they were quite generous with the amount of fish that goes into the pot 》$30 / Medium

Highly recommend the Teochew fish porridge (or soup) at Lee Kwang Kee Teochew Cuisine! 🤤 Super GAO and SHIOK! ($6 for 1 pax portion)

The Orh Nee ($4/portion) was pretty yummy too, especially the caramelized pumpkin on top. Dim Sum was decent tho nothing to shout about, BUT - 20% off all Dim Sum from late night till 10am! 🤑

Best of all, it’s opens 24/7 for all the night owls YAY! Can’t wait to go back to try the other dishes.

Idk if I’d call it the best, but I have to admit it’s crazy yummy. What’s exceptional here is the broth the porridge’s served in: it’s creamy, milky — largely from the starch released by the rice but still — and really robust in flavour. It’s very much like a concentrated fish stock I’d say, with lovely hints of sweetness and a nice kick from slices of fried ginger to keep it from feeling to heavy on the palate. The rice is somewhere between the traditional Teochew porridge, with the grains still holding their structure and bite, and congee. Super duper tasty. And get load of that fish! I can’t attach another photo here but trust me, it’s a really big slice. Really really fresh too.

I could imagine this as the centerpiece of attention which could impress youth and elderly alike. Did I forget to mention about charcoal being the heating element of this steamboat? .
.
What is contained in the steamboat itself were yam cubes, sour plums and fried fish. The broth was boiled with chicken and fish, giving that richness that I enjoyed. The addition of evaporated milk provided a slight milkiness to elevate the overall taste. I easily drank more than 5 bowls of soup that night. .

Red Garoupa Fish Steamboat
Small for up to 4 pax - $65
·
This charcoal steamboat looks awesome, tasty just as good. Soup taste fresh and savoury, goes well with a bowl of rice. Free flow top up of soup. Red garoupa fish slices are fresh and tender as well, remember not to overcook it. Somehow the charcoal steamboat felt much tastier than other regular steamboat, maybe because of the heat? Love it , a nice environment to chit chat with friends while dining as well

Jing Tai Lan refers to a technique for decorating metal objects, using a combination of painting, sculpturing, metalwork, gemstone setting, and glass work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The fish head steamboat was light at first but was flavorful gradually as the red snapper fish slices and vegetables were added. The additional of yam cubes and sour plum elevated the flavors and reflected their authenticity in bringing real teochew cuisines to their customers. A tad pricey from $65 onward but worth sharing with like-minded friends and families!

This Chinese Teochew delicacy features a medium sized male crab, with plenty of milt within.
.
The crabs are steamed with ginger and Shaoxing rice wine, then quickly chilled.
.
It has a lovely delicate texture, with refreshing sweet briny salty flavour. Also rather expensive.

Unusual that a place known for Teochew dishes also has decent Cantonese dim sum all day.
.
The Steamed Pork Ribs Black Bean Sauce Style has meaty chewy morsels of savoury earthy sweet pork ribs on the bone, marinated in black bean sauce, garnished with sliced chili.
.
But the best thing on the plate was the thick but tender cubes of yam / taro, with delicate earthy sweet flavour. Overall, pretty good.

With Pumpkin And Gingko Nuts.
.
This features rich, thick, gloopy, creamy mashed yam / taro, with bold sweet earthy flavour.
.
The stewed candied pumpkin is super sweet, I would recommend not stirring in the whole chunk. The gingko nuts are nicely chewy, and lend a contrasting texture.
.
Pretty good, just need to tone down the sweetness.

Delicious, and pairs well with white rice. Portion size could be bigger for the price though.

Crunchy when eaten, otherwise soften when dunks into the steamboat before eating.

The Giant Grouper stomach is crunchy even after left in the Steamboat for quite awhile.
Thick slice, taste like pig’s stomach. Adore both

Savoury and rich broth, awesome with white rice. But most importantly, the fish are so fresh, one of the freshest i have ever had! Even though its at the pricier side of fish head steamboat among others that i have tried, the freshness of the ingredients makes it all worthwhile if you have the budget to spend! On top of that, they have many condiments to go with your fish, sambal, red chilli, belachan etc. Highly recommended for special occasions too because since its opened at the HDB neighbourhood, they do not charge any gst for it!

This dish tasted average. Nevertheless, it's still a good place for a quick teochew fix. This was part of a set for 2. #burple#whati8today

Although it is situated around HDBs, DO NOT BELITTLE THIS RESTAURANT!

The braised duck is really flavourful. The meat was not tough and could easily bite off.

The takeaway part from this restaurant is the steamboat. Flavourful milky soup. It reminds me of fish soup with milk. I will definitely recommend both dishes to those that wants to learn what is the Teo Chew taste.

Or even for a lunar new year dinner? This Teochew fish head steamboat might be a good option.
They cooked their fish head broth fresh every day, natural and fresh it could be tasted with every sip of the soup. Even the quality of every soup refill was not compromised so one could simply enjoy to his heart’s content. The big and chunky cuts of the grouper fish were just a pleasure to bathe in that broth till perfection.
For a Teochew meal, their braised duck was also recommended. With a bright modern decor, this Teochew restaurant at Lor 8 of TPY neighbourhood might be one good place for the festive celebration.

Dim sum time~ 👅👅 Xiao Long Bao, prawn dumplings, Chee Cheong fun and mushroom bun.
