These pork ribs with apple champagne sauce and VANILLA ICE CREAM from @yishikitchen.sg was surprisingly good! Sounds like a weird combination but the sweetness of the ice cream actually really compliments the tart apple sauce really well. This dish is one of their weekly dishes which they switch pretty regularly - definitely worth a try!
Have yet to find a carrot cake better than the one at 618 Sim Carrot Cake! Crispy and topped generously with cai poh - long queue but totally worth the wait!
Bubble milk tea burnt cheese cake from Belle and Cream! The tea flavour was quite subtle, and complimented cheese flavour really well. The cake was creamy, and slightly denser (in a good way). The tapioca pearls were chewy and had a nice bite - surprisingly, it went quite well with the cake!

Kolomee makes for a great breakfast! The wriggly noodles are a nice change from the usual meekia/meepok that we are used too. Their texture is a lot softer/doughy, but it still has a nice bite. The dark soy flavour is my favourite as it adds a nice sweetness to the noodles. Although it already comes topped generously with lots of minced meat, indulge and add char siu and wanton to complete the dish!
Tender octopus garnished with crispy garlic and what I think are crispy beet root strips. The crunchy garlic and crispy beet root complimented the soft and tender octopus pieces. The mayo sauce was also really tasty, and really enhnced the flavour of the whole dish. Great appetiser!
The grilled almond cake from Common Man Coffee Roasters was unexpectedly amazing! The cake was soft and crumbly, but still moist and not dry at all. Wasn’t too sweet, and the almond flavour was quite subtle and not overpowering. Great way to end the meal!

So happy to chance upon cheap and good dim sum at Cheng San Market & Food Centre! They don’t offer as many items as proper dim sum restaurants, but there’s still a relatively good variety of fried and steamed dim sum. Their carrot cake and chicken glutinous rice were particularly good. Prices are also very reasonable. Pay then a visit at Nian Nian Fa Dian Xin Mei Shi (年年发点心美食) #01-121
The mini loco moco don lives up to its “mini” status by being pretty small portion-wise. Thankfully, it makes up for it’s lack of quantity with substantial quality. While the buttery and creamy foie gras was cooked perfectly, the homemade luncheon meat was more impressive. Although it tastes familiar to the processed version we are all acquainted with, it has a slightly more tender texture and does not have the overly salted/preservative-laden flavour. Pretty interesting and provides a nice savoury burst of flavour to the entire dish.
These Teppen omakase mini donburis are literally packed to the brim with fresh seafood goodness. Pictured is the ebi don (359 baht) topped with uni (299 baht) and an astakild egg. The quality of the egg is really different from your average egg - the yolk is denser, thicker, and much richer; when mixed in with the ebi and uni, it makes for a fanatically creamy sauce that compliments it really well. They are pretty generous with the ebi, which is fresh and plump and has a light seasoning that really allows the sweetness of the prawns to shine through. Although it may seem really small, one bowl will be enough to fill you up and is already pretty satisfying.
This jian bing from Wulumuqi Lu makes for an amazing breakfast!! It usually consists of a freshly made crepe wrapped around egg, a choice between crispy wanton skin or youtiao, and other ingredients of your choice like sausage and meat. It is topped off with cilantro, hoisin and chilli sauce and makes for a very fulfilling breakfast! Definitely a must have in Shanghai.
